SOE’s In-Game Poll Results In and March Plans Tomorrow?

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Game Updates & Maintenance, International

We’ve got some vague results from SOE’s first in-game poll, notable for having only been distributed to North American players.

From Piestro on the EQ2 Forums:

A big thanks to all of you for participating in the first EQII In-Game Poll and helping us get to know you better! We were very happy with the number of you who took the time to go ahead and answer our poll questions and we’ve spent some time going over the data.

So, on to the results! We know that the majority of you are exploring overland areas, doing quests, and playing in dungeons. Whew! We’re glad there are no surprises there.

As for the socializing activities, while this certainly was not a scientific poll we were happy to find the majority are chatting and not playing in isolation. As for what activities you do when not adventuring,: the majority of you find tradeskilling the most compelling activity. Interestingly enough, for the remaining activities players were evenly spread out.

We will be continuing to add polls as we go forward and are working on gathering and planning questions now. Thanks again!

Tradition says today is THE day when I could ask a man to marry me…*cough*. Anyway, on to more interesting things…

In honor of Leap Year, we have put Leapers and Gliders on sale in the Marketplace! We thought it seemed appropriate…

I just got out of a design meeting this morning where we discussed the poll results. Not only have the results spawned other questions we want to ask, but we are committed to look deeper into the data. My point is, the polls are not for naught!

I’ll let you get a jump on your day…

To answer a few of you here, the March Update plans post will come tomorrow, March 1. It answers several of the substantive questions asked.

For clarity, I will likely post in the Developer Roundtable area for general day-to-day topics, like today’s “holiday” and minor news for those who want to hear/read it. Actual news and announcements will take a more formal format so it’s more visible/accessible to everyone. And of course, we’ll adjust as necessary.

sort of indicates that if you did not get the mail you may actually be effected by the PSS1 deal after all. Even if you are not in Europe, even if you play on a North American server

So what is this mail that SOE sent? was it an ingame mail or a mail sent to the address linked to the account?

I got comments from friends being Euro but playing on US servers that they did NOT get the poll when it was up whereas US located players got it at the same time.

So SOE conviently forgot to send email to EU players on US server?

Who said anything about an e-mail?

It was an in-game poll using the SOE in-game mail system. If you were on a US server that is.

What I dont like with this letter is that they left out any real numbers or even relative graphs.

They should have posted a pie-chart or something for the 3 questions…
I can read them myself, and I dont trust any SOE interpretation of them.

I wonder if the crit mit removal they began testing ages ago is in their March plans.

How accurate can that poll be? All my alts got the mail, that’s 10 responses from just one player…

The poll left out the one selection I and probably a few others would have used, “Would interact with guildmates, if any were online”. One guild went from 360+ accounts pre-hack to 100 that rarely log in, I think my alts are all alone in their guild now. I can’t say anything about server populations, but that’s some pretty sad empirical evidence.

I think it was EU servers that didn’t get the poll, not EU players. Everyone in my guild is physically based in Europe but we play on Freeport and we all got the poll.

I was very surprised (and pleased) to receive the poll not just once per account but for each character on each account. It allowed me to respond appropriately for each character and my answers differed widely. I have specific characters who make and run Dungeon Maker dungeons, who quest, who tradeskill, who multi-box, etc etc. Not every character, or every account, does everything.

As an aside on the regular comments I read about falling populations and cancelled accounts, I can’t say I have seen any much of it on Freeport. I know of one person who did cancel her account in protest over the PSS1 affair, which was been the hot topic in 1-9 for days, but everywhere I go still seems as crowded as ever on this busy server. Of course, I don’t set foot in any top-end areas so I have no idea what’s happening up there.

I too have 10 alts, though once I participated in the poll w/ one toon on my account I didn’t re-take the poll w/ the rest of them.
Perhaps who ever is creating these will figure out a way (for more accuracy) to remove the subsequent polls once an account has participated. But then again we’ve been waiting on bug fixes for months…years. I’m hopeful but certainly not going to hold my breath.
