Crafters Get Frosty Reception After Game Update

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Game Updates & Maintenance, Tradeskill

Tradeskillers who selected the Frost Gryphon, rather than the Boreal Gryphon, as their level 85+ tradeskill flying mount are experiencing an issue after today’s Game Update. Namely, the Frost Gryphon seems to have been flagged Guide-only. It’s not immediately obvious in the following screen shot, but we have confirmed this. Domino is aware of the issue and hopefully we’ll get a fix ASAP.

This is being discussed on the EQ2 Forums.

Flying Mounts and PvP

Written by Feldon on . Posted in PvP/BG/Proving Grounds

A topic is raging on the EQ2 Forums about PvP and Flying Mounts. Rothgar has waded hip-deep into this one, asking for player feedback.

Rothgar posted this:

If we changed it so that players have a chance to knock other players off their mount, would that alleviate some of the issues? I realize it probably doesn’t solve the entire issue, but perhaps its a move in the right direction.

A player responded:

Please no knee jerk reactions like just giving people the ability to knock others from the sky. Those that cannot melee, bow shoot, or bring mage pets to bear on an oppenent on the way down will be at a disadvantage. People like sorcerers would die more becuase they cannot cast on the move.

Aether Flying Races Will Return

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Live Events

It was strongly suggested that if feedback were positive, the Aether Races which allow ANYONE level 1-90 (with or without the Velious expansion) to participate in a live event, and receive a temporary flying mount to get a taste of flight. Now we know that Windslasher‘s event will be coming back!

Well, now it’s over and I’m back to my regularly scheduled tasks. Thank you all for the great feedback! It’s absolutely heartwarming to hear how much you all loved the racing, and I’ve taken notes on all your suggestions.

Rest assured, after such a glowing response this event is definitely going to return!

No word just yet on intriguing rumors that this event will expand beyond its initial zones of Butcherblock Mts, Lavastorm, and Tenebrous Tangle.

Aether Races on March 1st — EVERYBODY Flies

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Live Events

From SmokeJumper on the EQ2 Forums:

So…it turns out that the gnomes are horribly, terribly jealous of the “meat solution” to flying mounts found in Velious and they’re working furiously to come up with a tinkering substitution instead.

Thus, the debut of “Aether Racing” tomorrow, Tuesday, March 1st!

The tinkerers have cobbled together a rattling, wheezing deathtrap of a flying machine, and they want YOU to test it for them! (They’re not stupid enough to test it themselves.)

Tuesday, March 1 Update Notes

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Game Updates & Maintenance, Grouping, Itemization, Live Events, Raiding, Tradeskill

It’s one week since the launch of Destiny of Velious and there are always bugs and issues that make it through from the Beta. Today’s update tackles many of them. With today’s update, many of these issues are fixed.

Tradeskillers can now equip their Boreal or Frost Gryphon as a flying mount at level 85 tradeskill. Freebloods who have completed their Cloud of Bats quests can now use it. And the Collector’s Edition (still available as a $25 upgrade today until 10am PST [18:00 GMT] ) Stormfeather Brood Guardian is now usable by 85 tradeskill and 85 adventurer.

The Coldain Ring War and Storm Gorge Public Quests were a lot of fun this weekend, however several issues plagued both, making it difficult or impossible, even with a full raid of 24 players, to reach difficulty #4 or #5 to get the better rewards (including Legendary armor with yellow adornment slots). The Ring War PQ kept scaling down to solo difficulty, and the Storm Gorge PQ seemed to start at maximum difficulty, steamrolling everyone present, rather than ramping up.

We also see bug fixes in various quests, including both the group and raid versions of the Tower of Frozen Shadow.

Flying Mount Expoiters Suspended

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Uncategorized

From SmokeJumper on the EQ2 Forums:

Hey, folks,

I just wanted to post and let you know that a bunch of accounts (less than 100) got a temporary suspension tonight.

Why?

Because some of them were invited to Beta and then found a way to shortcut the gryphon quest series, which takes a minimum of five days to complete, and were able to do it in minutes. They then told others how to do it and the rest followed along, duplicating the exploit.

Flying Mounts Early? It Takes a Village

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Commentary, Expansion News, Game Updates & Maintenance

It seems every year, thousands of bug reports are submitted to the EQ2 team during Beta. And it seems every year, a few highly visible bugs/exploits make it through. Last year, it was large encounters in The Hole that would respawn if all but one mob were killed. In The Shadow Odyssey beta it was widely reported that most of the dungeons could be completed when mentored down and greyed out.

So this year, so far we know of two:

Lord Doljonijiarnimorinar (Lord Bob) could be exploited to provide loot over and over. Lord Bob was fixed in today’s hotfix.

Destiny of Velious Flying Mount Options

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Expansion News

Your questions answered about the Destiny of Velious Flying Mount:

The Flying Gryphon is a level 86+ solo adventure or tradeskill quest with a 5 day timesink. Cloud of Bats is a level 86+ solo quest available to Freeblood characters to allow flight as a swarm of bats.

You do not need to Pre-Order or meet any special requirement to get the mount, just buy Destiny of Velious, complete the quest, do the 5 day training of your gryphon, and then presto you have a choice of 3 colors of Flying Gryphon. The options are Snow Gryphon, Highland Gryphon, and Tundra Gryphon. The Highland is a brownish color, while the other choices are between a bluish white and more of a grey color.

The color of the gryphons actually changed substantially during Beta. The original was more of a pearlescent gold color. Hopefully it gets added as another color option down the road.

Destiny of Velious Preview: The Beauty of Flight

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Expansion News

Flying Mounts are truly one of the best parts of the upcoming Destiny of Velious expansion.

Level 86+ Adventurers can travel to the Goahmari Camp and help a tiny enclave of goat people (no relation to the Gruegach of course). They need your assistance and training to defend against the Order of Rime’s incursions into their territory and they will reward you with no less than a flying gryffon hatchling. Once you have invested a few days training your dragon gryphon, you’ll be soaring across the skies in new and old locales. You are offered a choice of blue, gold, and grey gryphons when completing the quest.

Some areas of Norrath are a natural fit for flying. The Kingdom of Sky, Kunark, Lavastorm, Commonlands, Greater Faydark, and the Enchanted Lands all make great places to stretch your gryphon’s wings. Flight in Everfrost, Thundering Steppes, Lesser Faydark, Moors of Ykesha, and Nektulos Forest are a bit more claustrophobic due to design limitations when those zones were built (it’s planned to eventually add the artwork necessary to some of those zones to allow more freedom). We did not get a chance to try out Antonica.

Tradeskillers will also have an avenue at level 86+ to do their own variation on the flying mount quest (with a different appearance), and Freebloods have a quest unique to them which grants the Swarm of Bats ability to fly.

We are thrilled to be able to share with you some screen shots of flight in Destiny of Velious.

Notes from Destiny of Velious Feb 11 Webcast #3

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Expansion News, Grouping, Itemization, PvP/BG/Proving Grounds, Raiding

Here are some notes from Friday night’s live Webcast of Rich Waters, Dave “SmokeJumper” Georgeson and Salim “Silius” talking about the upcoming Destiny of Velious expansion, including player-submitted questions. Getting into the mechanics and itemization changes, we get very close to a full transcription as there is a lot of detail and information here. We recommend listening to the webcast to get a complete picture of what was said.

Some bullet points:

  • The EQ2 team have the next year of Game Updates planned out with more group zones, raid zones, heritage quests, etc. The first Game Update will add more dungeons.
  • Items will become a lot more modular and straightforward, with procs largely moved to adornments.
  • Group players in Sentinel’s Fate should be able to jump right into grouping in Velious such as Tower of Frozen Shadow.
  • Casual raiders in Sentinel’s Fate may want to test the waters with the contested Kael Drakkel dungeon which falls right before the easier raid content.
  • High-level raiders who are already doing Underfoot Depths should be able to move into the easier raid zones in Velious without grouping, although Kael Drakkel is a good stepping stone.
  • Silius went into detail on the new Adornment scheme including a new type of adornment War Runes.
  • We won’t see new Battlegrounds gear or other PvP content until the Game Update after Velious.
  • A new mechanic on mobs (NPCs) called Critical Avoidance which means you’ll need well over 100% Crit Chance to succeed harder dungeons and raids. This effect reduces your crit (including healing!).
  • Flying mounts start at level 86.
  • On March 1st, everyone will be able to fly as a live event. The gnomes are putting in experimental test pilot tracks in Lavastorm, Tenebrous Tangle, and Butcherblock. You’ll be able to grab a tinkered craft and run through the race against time.

Freebloods Get a Ticket to Ride; Fae, Arasai Remain Grounded

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Daybreak Cash, Expansion News

So with today’s official introduction of the Freeblood vampire race to EverQuest 2 as the first Premium race, the remaining secrets have been unveiled. Chief among them is that the Swarm of Bats premium mount/ability available exclusively to Freebloods will, when Destiny of Velious expansion launches and a quest has been completed, be usable as a full-fledged Flying Mount. From the official announcement:

Characters who go on to unlock flying mounts in the Destiny of Velious expansion will also be able to use this ability to fly.
