Time Locked Expansion Server”Fallen Gate” Now Open for Beta Testing

Written by Feldon on . Posted in DGC Wants Feedback, EQ2

From the EQ2 Forums:

The Fallen Gate Time Locked Expansion Beta server is now available for testing!  The sevrer will only be available until next week so hop in and help us Test out experience, balance, and other functionality you’ll be using on Fallen Gate when it launches.

As a thank you for your testing, you’ll receive a Fallen Gate Beta Box if you reach level 30 or complete 150 quests.

Instructions on how to patch Beta quickly can be found here. Scroll down to “Get to EverQuest II Beta in 15-30 Minutes“.

Other Important Information:

  • We’ll be testing a queue system for EverQuest 2 during this time. Don’t be alarmed if you have a short wait when logging into these beta servers.
  • Beta installs into a subfolder that takes about the same space as your live game version.
  • Remember to set the ‘Version’ back to your regular setting to access your normal server.
  • The Beta server may not be accessible at all times, as patching and beta server maintenance will occur whenever it’s necessary.
  • The Beta server is wiped periodically, meaning Beta characters may be deleted with or without notice.

You know, given the huge success of Agnarr, which is the new TLE server for EverQuest that locks in the Planes of Power era, I wonder if DBG has considered this for EverQuest 2? Give me either a Rise of Kunark or Shadow Odyssey era locked server and I’d be back in a heartbeat.

EQ2 had not one but two servers on Rise of Kunark for almost 4 months. Did you play?

I did not. I’m referring to servers that stop progression either in the RoK or TSO era meaning once that content unlocks no other content unlocks.

Wonder how long a server like that would run until it hits 0 active logins at primetime. 6 months tops?

I mean, Agnarr is off to an incredible start so far but I’ll have nothing to compare that idea too for 18 more months when the final expansion unlocks on Agnarr. So we’d have to come back to this then to see if the idea is viable or not. I personally think it would be given that RoK and TSO were EQ2’s most popular times.

EQ Project 1999 has been going strong since like 2009, and they only released 2 expansions. If that’s any indication.

That’s actually a good point. p99 only goes to Scars of Velious and it’s staying that way and the blue server averages 1,000+ people on at any time daily.

I see there are log in issues today. Could this be related to why there is no server listed on the beta server list? Can create a character, but nothing listed to select. It says, in red, [DEVL}Warning text. (And yes, I did switch to Beta for my version, traditional for the selection). Thanks for any input and thoughts.

I am sure to beta test the Fallen Gate TLE server you need to select beta, and Progression. Not traditional.

Queue system? What kind of population are the expecting for Fallen Gate? Seems overkill considering the current playerbase size.

    Hmm…
