Update Notes: Tuesday May 16, 2017 Proving Snark

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Game Updates & Maintenance, Grouping, Itemization, PvP/BG/Proving Grounds

Any change to Proving Grounds (PvE Battlegrounds?) likely requires patching both US and EU servers, so we’re going to go out on a sturdy limb and guess…

All Servers: 7-9:00am PDT | 10:00am-Noon EDT | 15-17:00 BST | 16-18:00 CET

Also it looks like EQ2 Developer Snark has now leaked into the update notes. From the EQ2 Forums:

GENERAL

  • Fixed an issue where guild events may not display the most current events after a server restart.

PROVING GROUNDS

  • Increased most heals in Proving Grounds.
  • Each member of the winning team will now receive their bonus tokens after completing the final objective.
  • The final zone bosses are now immune to Verdict. Mayong smiles.
  • Trash encounters and some boss adds will now apply a group-wide negative damage reduction debuff. This debuff stacks and cannot be cured.
  • Trash encounters will now set their Bleedthrough percentage to 100 if your group is attacking more than 6 at a time, but will drop back to 75% when fighting 6 or less. Bosses will remain at 75% Bleedthroughout. (That’s “Bleedthrough throughout” for the lazy.)
  • All bosses will have an ability that will either outright kill a group member if that group does not have a fighter, or aggro a group member with the fewest hitpoints if that group does not have a fighter.
  • Bring a fighter.

Battle for Felwithe

  • The Ancient Anomaly alters its size no more than 5 times during the encounter.
  • Mayong Mistmoore will no longer remain invisible after summoning his bat colony.
  • Brownies cannot be sent at the opposing team once Mayong Mistmoore has been defeated on either side.

ABILITIES

  • Corrected an issue that reduced fighter percentage heals by a larger then intended amount.

ITEMS

  • Corrected an issue with Thaumic Total Freedom that caused it to stun and stifle the caster, instead of making them immune to stun and stifle.
  • Twelfth Anniversary Celebration Mount will now check either adventure or tradeskill level for use.

QUESTS

  • Displaced and Discouraged – Portal jumped Ry’Gorr raiders are now possible quest targets.
  • The quest “Shrunken Legacy” should now properly update in the Expert version of Dalnir: The Kly Stronghold.

PUBLIC QUESTS

  • The bubbles at the center of the Ill Omen public quest in Kylong Plains are no longer viewable when the public quest starts.

No comment about the broken group-maker. So if the group maker creates a group without a fighter, you’re SOL

So a Conjuror, two Necromancers, and an Inquisitor walk into a KA heroic zone. And destroy it.

I’ve got lots more combinations. I’m sure every player, with the exception of ‘will never ever group with them’ types, has been in some non-standard configuration group.

But here in bold print, ’tis clear, it’s no longer:

    And now, as tears subside
I find it all so amusing

To think I did all that
And may I say – not in a shy way
Oh no, oh no, not me
    I did it my way

The record shows I took the blows
    And did it my way

    Yes, it was my way”

Some of my favorite experiences in EQ2 involved non-standard group composition, such as an Inquisitor tank (and actually holding aggro pretty good too).

Even so, recalling Smokeblower’s…smoke doesn’t fairly address whatever in the hell is being implemented now. He was a travesty (Trocadero style). Not what we got now. Now is…I dunno… not vile, at any rate.

I’m staying out of this section, but I gotta wonder why they thought it was a good idea to put resources into something that, basically, has a track record of not working well _for this product and customer base_….

Seriously, housing and decor has a better track record than competition and grouping zones. I’m talkin’ financially as well as technically. So, yeah… wtf?

This is reminiscent of how Landmark was treated when it came to new content. Promote it via Holly (then she disappears, again), release it broken and awful and with an obvious negative view. One fix (patch release, update) and then it becomes completely abandoned. Developers never mention it again.

I can easily agree with the “Man this was awful, no fun, and now it’s completely ruined!” crowd, but I can go one step further: It will get worse.

I salute the return of snark to the patch notes. This was how patch notes always used to be and why they were so much fun to read.

I don’t remember this at all, but I trust Bhagpuss would report this accurately, because… reasons. #InventoryFull /waves

    I’m good with the snark.
    I’m good with fighters… ok I am a fighter.

Seems to me though it really should be up to the group what they want to bring.

Maybe they should bring talented developers and designers, so they can stop releasing garbage.

      “Talented”–? Wrong adjective.

      Try again.

I echo the thoughts that without the match maker thing working correctly this is just going to be a mess.

I agree. Who are you to tell us how to play a game we pay you to play. If i want to tank on my brig……and i did just that not ot long ago. Then i should be able to. You losing your ever loving mind Daybreak if you think you can tell us in respect hwo to play OUR game. This is our game and you need to show a little respect to the ones that make your pay check. We have BUILT this game from scratch and we thank you for everything you have done but again, with all due respect, never tell us how to play our game.

Could someone be so kind as to explain what Bleedthrough even is and what the patch notes are saying about it? First time I ever heard of it, and searching/googling finds nothing but discussions about it.

Bleed-through is an effect they added where some of the incoming damage is not prevented by a warding effect. The percentage shown is normally the amount of damage that is not prevented. So, 75% bleed-through means that 75% of the damage is not prevented and only 25% is prevented by the ward.

Confirmation in Discord that even though zones are undoable w/o a fighter, the matchmaker will NOT guarantee (perhaps not even try) to put a fighter in every group….
So the system to put together groups will put people in groups that cannot possibly suceed…. because reasons.

Once again, it never ceases to amaze me that more than two or three people are even interested in this pvp junk. It could have the best equipment in the game and I still wouldn’t do it simply on principle.

I love having double coin rewards when a system is broken and almost completely unplayable. 🙂

It’s sad how every game update for EQ2 now is met with harsh criticism. The game has completely fallen apart over the past few years.

Well if they would test things a bit better maybe they would not have such harsh criticism. 🙁

Well, gee, if they had the damn labor resources, they could do a zillion cool things.*

        Those

        days

        are

        long

        gone.

        Y’all new here?

*(Tho’ this new Battlegrounds is fairly questionable for resource use, it seems…)
