Nights of the Dead: A Comprehensive Guide

Written by Cyliena on . Posted in EQ2, Guide, Live Events

Charnel Hollow

Survive the Night

  1. Speak to Setri Lur’eth at /loc 1085, 0, -329 in Nektulos Forest to begin the quest. You must first complete A Nightmarish Illness if you have not done so in the past.
  2. Enter Charnel Hollow at /loc 885, 7, -471 on the beach in Nektulos Forest (the same gate as the Cauldron Hollow and the Hollow Hedge).
  3. Vikki is at /loc 941, 8, -557 by the well, but don’t hail her yet. First, setup the six flora from the zone in a semi-circle around her:
    • The clicks are moved similar to house items; left-click to pick up, left-click again to set down
    • The fourth Pink Plant location only appears for Assassins, Coercers, Dirges, Illusionists, Rangers, and Troubadors
    • Green Plants: Found at /loc 914, 8, -505, /loc 997, 8, -586, and /loc 911, 8, -614
    • Pink Plants: Found at 991, 8, -545, /loc 998, 8, -580, /loc 917, 8, -615, and /loc 963, 8, -515
    • The doorsteps have optional temporary appearance weapons. Click to pick-up and automatically equip them. Any appearance weapons you had equipped will move to your inventory. Equipping one of these grants the Necrotic Carnage buff, which gives 25% bonus to Potency and +25 to Multi Attack. Equipping a second weapon sometimes drops the buff.
  4. (optional) Pick up a Scribbled Zombie Note at /loc 916, 10, -620 to acquire a house item with a humorous message
  5. Nights of the Dead Devotee achievement update: Pick up the broken canopic jar at 972, 8, -507
  6. Speak to Vikki and tell her that you’re ready for the dead men
  7. Waves of the shambling dead will begin to spawn. The waves pick up pace as they progress.
    • If Vikki dies, you lose and have to restart the event from the beginning. Defend her until Dolly spawns (wave 5), then focus all effort on taking Dolly down.
    • The plants will help with dealing damage to the zombies, but you must be proactive in order to keep Vikki alive
      • Wave 1: Zone message of They’re coming…. At this point it will be one zombie at a time from the east.
      • Wave 2: Zone message of More zombies are approaching! Zombies will come from several graveyards at the rate of 1-2 from each site.
      • Wave 3: Zone message of There are more zombies coming! Zombies will spawn more quickly from most graveyards at the rate of 1-2 from each site.
      • Wave 4: Zone message of Another wave of zombies is coming! Zombies will spawn even faster from all graveyards, at the rate of 1-3 from each site.
      • Wave 5: Zone message of A disturbing dolly has risen from the well! Like it says, Dolly will now be at the well behind Vikki. Zombies will likely continue to attack during this phase.
  8. Once Dolly is dead, speak to Vikki again
  9. Return to Setri in Nektulos Forest to receive your reward

11:40 am Pacific – Down. After about an hour of play on one character I logged to another and got dropped back to LOGIN. Okay. Attempt to Log in.. and LaunchPad shows an invalid login or password. Upon attempting to log to Support: “The system has encountered an error. Please come back and try again later.” The preceding is a statement of fact. The following is an opinion: Perhaps a warning of about a week..PLAINLY posted in several locations… followed by a week long FULL SHUT DOWN while the chaos ensues..instead of pretending everything is going fine, launching new expansions, asking for pre-order commitments from players, engaging in holiday events and moving offices all at the same time.. It is no wander (and this is a metaphor) that I cringe when you offer to change a light bulb: The house is falling down!

Cyliena, please would you consider putting up a table with this info? The Quest Tracker from Zam was an essential part of every EQ2 holiday for me 🙂

Oh yes, knew I was missing something. I’ll see if there’s a way we can get a printable of those event trackers over here. Since there were no new quests this year, last year’s NotD tracker on ZAM will still work for now. 🙂

A Nightmarish Illness is bugged. The “a grime covered hand holding a key” did not drop from the mobs in the 2nd graveyard, making this quest uncompletable for me.

I thought that happened to me once, and it turned out I missed “waking up” one of the zombies. Another time I accidentally let the key rot on the corpse. If anything, leaving and re-entering the zone should usually fix it.
