EU EverQuest II Live Servers will be brought offline on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at 7:00AM PDT* for an update. (Approx. 3:00PM London Time on June 23, 2015). Estimated downtime is two hours.

Echoes of Faydwer Fabled (Level 100)

That was fast! After a week on the Beta and Test servers, the Echoes of Faydwer Fabled solo and group dungeons plus a raid zone are patching live tomorrow, providing new content for level 100 players. These new zones also drop this summer’s Ethereal weapons which are on a 30-day rotation as previously mentioned.

Un-Deleting Characters and Items

For the first 15 years of its history, SOE has been known for its exemplary customer service which included the extraordinary safety net of recovering deleted and transmuted items as well as deleted characters (sometimes due to hacked accounts). In the aftermath of recent changes within the company in its transition to Daybreak Games, we’ve seen petition times jump to 3-6 days, and cutbacks on what support events are covered, particularly on deleted characters. It’s our understanding that restoring a hacked account can take several hours of painstaking reconstruction and digging through log files.

With tomorrow’s update, players who mistakenly Delete an Item or Character will now be able to restore them for Daybreak Cash. Player opinion has been rancorous and divided on this issue. On one side, players are castigated for their carelessness with the delete button or use of weak passwords, while others are quick to remind us EverQuest II is not a free game and most pay a monthly subscription, plus Campaigns and/or Expansions and surely there is enough room under that umbrella for this safety net.

I support the idea that deleted items or characters can be restored for Daybreak Cash as long as it is not too expensive.

I agree i recently deleted the collection charm, it was a stupid mistake because of the text overlay the pops up when you completed the collection overlapped the charm box and i thought i confirmed the attuning confirmation box, it took me 5 days to get it back, i dont mind paying a little cash to get it back…

Wow . . . that seems a bit . . . excessive . . . to effectively take something out of the trash bin that (as of now) they’ll never delete.

And how recent is “recently?” Since they decided to implement this idea, what, a few months ago? How far back can I go? AND is the “recently” only because they never saved the old characters? Now that this is fully implemented, can I delete a character now and pay $15 in 5 years?

    divided.

carelessly deleting an item/character and then being required to spend money can be justified.

If an item got removed by mistake it’s not ok having to spend money. So in that regard players get exploited for the game designer’s incompetence in their profession.

I start to believe that his constant stream of bugs is done intentional in order to have a reason for the slow development of game content.

“carelessly deleting a character”… it makes you type the characters name in to confirm the deletion, so it’s not an “Oops, I hit the wrong button!” thing. One has to actually manually type something specific to delete a character.

If your account was hacked this bothers me. You can use a damn secure, unique PW and still get hacked. There is an increasing trend (and not just in gaming) for companies to refuse to accept any responsibility for hacked accounts and blame the user without any proof the user did anything wrong like using a weak PW, re-using one or telling someone. The company holding your account has a responsibility to look after it too, especially if it is a paid for service.

If you are hacked you shouldn’t have to pay to get stuff back, and especially so if you are a subscriber. Hell, they want ideas for perks for Gold membership, there’s one right there.

Almost every time somebody claims “I got hacked”, he gave his password to someone he should not have given it to. A gold seller. His (now former) Girl-/Boyfriend. An untrustworthy guildmate…

I’d have preferred a lower price since it’s an automated process, but someone had to write the code for this process, and $15 to get a character back with thousands of hours of playtime instead of starting from scratch? Worth it.

I can only speak for myself – I got hacked when I had a long, alphanumeric +symbols +caps PW hat I used nowhere else and def hadn’t given to anyone, even my hubby. The only one who’d ever seen me type it was one of my cats, and despite the fact that they are taking over the internet I’m not sure they are capable of logging into EQ2 without help just yet 🙂 If some bastard cracked that then that’s hardly my fault, so why should I have to pay to get my stuff back, just because others are damn stupid?

Thankfully SOE spotted it before too much damage got done and blocked my account, and CS was amazing, even though I had to phone the US from the UK. It all got sorted out, for free (except my phone bill for a brief call, the rest was email/in-game). These days I have no faith I’d ever get my account back, let alone my stuff & toons.

I will say this paying for what should be a customer service job, is ultimate fail. If you can recover a deleted item with db cash, then why can a gm not actually do his job and provide customer service.

This is a new low, period end of story.

Neither Feldon or EQ2 Wire are providing the French translation. That’s all personally done by Armageddoux. If someone wants to translate different languages for each new article and host them on their own websites and post links here, like Armageddoux does, then by all means.

Another point I raised on the official forums is that of Quest Items.

It’s very annoying if you accidentally mute or destroy some gear or a harvestable, but it isn’t usually a massive issue beyond annoying – you can buy/grind/beg/adventure until you get a new one or equivalent. However losing a Quest Item can roadblock a huge amount of quests, XP, AA, gear etc. Some quest givers are happy to give you a replacement if you lose it, but others don’t. There is no logic from the nature of the quest or item in most cases whether they will give you a replacement or not – its just are written to do so and some aren’t. Having done almost 5k unique quests I speak from experience here. This makes things very inconsistent.

An obvious fix if they are bringing in this pay-to-get-back system would be to make all quest items NO_DESTROY and then the quest removes it itself upon completion. Otherwise some quest items you may accidentally delete (as I once did after not playing for ages and forgot what a crappy staff I had was for, but CS thankfully happily gave it back) will cost you real money to replace, others you can get back for free from the quest giver.

So be careful which quest items you accidentally delete, some you will get back for free, others you’ll have to pay for due to game inconsistency!

It’s easy to fix the “oops I transmute my ring!” moment but they don’t want to do it, and now we see the reasson. We can mark bags content as “no sale”, why with “no destroy” also? Because that didn’t give them MORE money…
