Character Spell Lists Now Support Grandmasters

We’re happy to announce that EQ2U has been updated to fully support Grandmaster spells and combat arts. First up, Character Spell lists now support Grandmaster level for every spell, while still distinguishing between character choices and those spells which must be researched or crafted.

NOTE: There are approximately one dozen spells game-wide which will not be offered in Grandmaster quality. Please post here in the comments or e-mail us so we can add them to our Grandmaster exclusion list.

EQ2U Recipe Database Updated

We have also loaded nearly 5,000 new Recipes into our Recipe database, including all 3,200 new Grandmaster spell recipes. We have added the necessary stuff to alert us if any characters know a recipe which is missing from our database.

Recipe Notes

  • Until a Grandmaster spell is discovered, clicking its name will generate an error, however you can still read the recipe by clicking “View Recipe”.
  • If you find a recipe that your character knows, but which is missing from EQ2U, please let us know!
  • Please also remember that recipes which use a Skill rather than a Tradeskill level will all appear on the “Level 0” tab of the Recipes view.

Whence Grandmaster Spells?

So where do you get Grandmaster spells? Well, if it’s one of the four Grandmaster choices available for your character per tier, than you can choose it in your Character Traits window. If you are flush with cash, then you can spend ~$25 in StationCash to research any spell from Master to Grandmaster. Finally, you can have a crafter make Grandmaster spells for you.

So where do the Grandmaster recipes come from? First, you can kill enemies with reckless abandon as the Grandmaster recipe books do sometimes drop off enemies. But the tried-and-true method is to use your Tradeskill Apprentice to research the books which follow the pattern “[Archetype] Grandmaster Recipes Volume [Tier]”. For example, Tier 6 (level 50-59) Fighter Grandmaster spells appear in the book “Fighter Grandmaster Spells Volume VI“.

Niami Denmother of EQ2Traders has posted an extensive article about these topics.

What Materials Are Needed to Craft Grandmasters?

Crafting a Grandmaster recipe requires that you have a Master scroll spell in your possession. Yes, this means that even if your character is fully mastered, you are going to have to acquire a whole other copy of every master AGAIN to upgrade it. This is not to mention a plethora of rare, expensive materials. In particular, testing has shown that foundations and spellshards are unbelievably rare. It seems the goal of Grandmasters is — it’s going to take you a LOOOONG time to get them all, unless you drop hundreds of dollars in StationCash.

I’m assuming the 96-100 spells/CAs won’t be added until AoM goes live?

Correct. And they use new rares along with the new rare and common harvestable materials in Altar of Malice. The 96-190 GM rares are Transcendent Spellshard & Transcendent Foundation.
