Commentary

In fact, the best deal we got this year was Double StationCash exclusively from Best Buy midway between this year’s SOE Live and the layoffs. Like an overused background character, is it too early to write off Double and Triple StationCash as dead for good? With just 3 months until EQN Landmark goes Alpha, SOE is likely keeping a tight rein on any possible devaluation of their account-wide currency.

I wonder if dividing the games up into their own unique station cash bought currencies would make double/tripple days doable again? I forgot what game it was, but I’ve seen it before. There’s a universal/company wide currency like station cash, then that was used to buy an alternate currency in each game the company ran. The different games had their own sales/deal days, and occasionally the universal currency would have a deal. Either way the players were encouraged to buy more, which is the goal of any business, to keep running and make a profit instead of/incase of losses. I’ve heard SC deals that were more intended for EQ/EQ2/Free Realms were blamed for the “death” of Planetside. (it’s still running though.. o.0)

Back to the one question haunting non-USA players: P7S. If I buy SC, at whatever price, will it be any use whatsoever on EQN if I am forced to go P7S? At present, I am all set to even pay for the privilege of doing their beta testing, but I will not part with any cash until I am assured that I will be able to stay with SOE.

Aye, SC is only ‘account-wide’ for non-Europeans who don’t want to play EQN (or DCUO).

Once EQN/Landmark comes out those of us (not me) who bravely decide to risk PPS1 will have a different account using ‘SevenCash’, totally unlinked to ‘StationCash’. These people will have to buy two lots of different currency and will only be able to spend each on certain games, unlike US players who will be able to just buy one lot and spend it on whatever game they like as stuff they like appears. This makes it more difficult & expensive for Euros to stockpile and take advantage of deals.

Can’t you just use a VPN to sign up like you use for netflix?

Possibly, but other people who have tried that for other games say that lag is a big issue. Plus most reliable VPN services require a fee, adding to gaming costs.

Not sure why I should have to resort to that for an international game when I have had an SOE account in good standing for over 10 years, just because I live in Europe not the US.

And I don’t use a VPN for Netflix, I just use it normally…..

Feldon: I have actually asked, and EQN/L will feature a IP scanner, so if you use a VPN and get caught, you are permabanned. Its the same with quite a few games that force us Europeans to play in our own yard.

Sadly, if EQN/L doesnt offer me the option to play on my present account, i will contain myself to EQII. I know outside and in, how the support are handled on P7S and i do not want to be on the other side of that.

Our accounts are already flagged as European. I does not matter if I use VPN or not, I cannot access DCUO on SOE accounts and probably the same will apply to EQN.

I only buy Walmart SC cards since they have the extra 500 on them. To take it further I only purchase and redeem when it is triple or occasionally double. Of course it’s their choice not to offer these events but that will mean I won’t be buying more if they don’t offer it again in the future. Our four accounts won’t make or break SOE certainly but I think lots of people feel the same way. It definitely appears that they do not plan to offer double or triple again.

How does scanning your ip beat a vpn, which attaches you to a different ip (in another country perhaps) via a tunnel between you and the provider. For all practical purposes your machine looks like it’s where the provider is. They can black list providers but providers change ip ranges often and use shell companies to hide their ip ranges. They may snoop through personal settings or info in your pc, but I’m not sure how legal that would be in countries with enforced privacy laws.
Just wait until open beta and if they perma ban your FREE account start a new one?

If I have to create a new account it does not matter if it’s a SOE or PSS1 account, I cannot access SC balance on my current SOE account.

Yeah, because building up a character and then losing it all and having to start again is so much fun…

Well I suppose double/triple SC would be nice, but 30% discount very unexciting.

What I would have like to see this weekend was double XP, but that seems not to be happening.

I wonder what the have in mind for “Cyber Monday”??

I’m going with Market Place Rebate sale on Monday.

30% off is a typical StationCash sale that we see several times a year. It’s also pretty close to the Walmart Everyday Price on redeemed cards due to the 500SC bonus. This is why people are having a hard time getting excited.

Personally, I would have done 40% off StationCash for online AND redeemed cards, plus a 30% off sale on Services like Character Transfers, Character Slots, Name Changes, and all the Age of Discovery features. Here’s how the math would work out:

    • Character Transfer: $25 $10.50
    • Mercenaries: $15 $6.33
    • Age of Discovery Features: $40 $16.80

It doesn’t totally devalue StationCash, and it’s a one-day sale on things people want and for which there is pent-up demand.

Also, this kind of thing needs to be announced days in advance as people are deciding what to buy for family and for themselves today and tomorrow, not waiting until Monday.

Yeah I would like for them to let us know what is the cyber Monday sale.
People seem upset now at the 30%, how upset will they be when they don’t buy any and something on the market goes on sale they want on monday.
Personally I’m on the fence about getting some SC but without know what I can get on Monday, I’m leaning towards giving it a miss.

perhaps not everywhere but as far as I can tell -all- of the Wal-marts here in Jacksonville, FL have stopped stocking station cash cards. I called every one of them a week or two ago and though each of them swears they show stuff on the shelf, when I have someone go look there’s nothing.

I don’t know if this is stupidity on the part of the local stores or some kind of bigger company issue but it’s very frustrating here. Only reason we managed to get any lately is the game stop sale.

Same issue by me in NY.
I went to 2 Walmart stores and they both had nothing on the shelf, although there was a place for them on the shelf, just empty.
I can only find them in Game Stop.

No Miragain, it’s not local. I’m having the exact same issue in my area of NJ. Walmart days they have them in stock but none on the shelf. Ever.
