VIDEO from EQ2 Art & Animation Panel at SOE Live 2013

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Art, Appearance, Housing, Daybreak Live (SOE Live/Fan Faire), EQ2

Join members of the EverQuest II Art & Animation team including Tim “Haohmaru” Heydelaar, Tom Tobey, Dave “Covic” Brown, and Aaron “Gnobrin” Bisnett as they talk about what it takes to create new zones, characters, and weapons for EverQuest II, as well as previews of upcoming zones and artwork!

This video includes:

  • a detailed reveal of the reimagined Bixie characters
  • a behind-the-scenes look as the team at first worked towards a different visual approach for Siren’s Grotto before building what was eventually delivered
  • flythroughs of upcoming Highkeep, Temple of Veeshan, and Nexus zones in EverQuest II’s 10th expansion: Tears of Veeshan
  • a zany Fun with Art segment with Tom Tobey showcaseing some of the key animations we’ve gotten in EQ2 this year
  • a sneak peek at content for 2014 (dinosaurs!)
  • the exciting new Terrain Editor!

NOTE: Silence in the first 1-2 minutes of the video, followed by frantic tripod setup noise for another minute is perfectly normal.

This was a very enjoyable panel. Excited by the terrain editing tools they are now using, hopefully we will see some even more impressive zones and areas in times ahead. Good job on recording and sharing!

I wonder where that time saved on creating the overland zones / terrain will be redirected to though?

More overland zones / content perhaps?
Maybe revamps / rebuilds of older zones?
    More work on dungeons?
More work on mechanics and features?

Or perhaps it might mean freeing developers up to go work on EQN or other projects.

It will definitely be interesting to see how it really changes things.

Would be nice if they did a whole new build of EQ2 behind the scenes with a new engine to match todays tech. then once it is all complete they announce it and switch everyone over…. Huh? What? Oh sorry, I just woke up I was dreaming again.

It would be cool if the Nexus was linked to future zones and expansions. It was a nice meeting hub in EverQuest 🙂

I really enjoyed this as well. I love creating levels and mods ect in various games such as Source games (TF2/CSS), Gamybyro (Oblivion/Fallout), and Cryengine (Crysis) and watching this type of stuff and how they create it just so entertaining. I could watch it for well over 5 hours and not get bored.

And its quite obvious over the recent past few years the artistic design of EQ2 has gotten so much better.

But on the subject of Antonica fitting in the Swamp of No Hope….are you serious? No way…. Perhaps the perception of view blurs it. I have no idea, maybe it’s because the content in Fen’s is a lot more barren compared to the original content.
