Welcome to the EverQuest II: Itemization Evolves panel from SOE Live 2013. Panelists are Michael “Xelgad” GanzBrian “Omougi” Ferguson, and Kyle “Kander” Vallée.

Disclaimer: All things discussed about the expansions are subject to change!

Slide4

More slides after the jump…

Slide5

Trying to get meaningful, reasonable growth, without huge stat inflation. More character customization choices.

Slide6

Spell Reuse Speed/Ability Reuse Speed – They’re not being merged, but going forward, new items will have Ability Reuse Speed.

Slide7

Slide8

Ability Casting Speed to Doublecast will get a noticeable increase.

Slide9

Slide10

Slide11

Slide12

Armor will be big stat increases. Jewelry isn’t going to see much growth on blue stats.

Slide13

Slide14

Moving to Purple Adornments which will be as powerful as a red and yellow combined. Right now, Priest items have way too many blue stats.

Slide15

Slide16

There will be war runes available in raids, some can be purchased, some can be crafted. Everyone will be able to get some kinds of Purple War Runes. Of course HM raid gets the best, but everyone gets access to these. We’re shrinking the gap between solo, group, EM raid, and HM raid. Right now it’s like 500%.

Slide17

Slide18

Slide19

Charms – powerful clicky abilities. Just as an example (not confirmed), you might get a long duration area mez for soloing/survivability. Cooldowns on charm clickies so you can’t rapidly swap.

Slide20

Necklaces — Focus effects.

Slide21

Slide22

Advanced Solo Loot

If you want loot for a specific class, run the zone with that class. If you want all the pieces in the armor set, then you have to run all the zones. You won’t just run Dreadcutter until your eyes bleed.

NOTE: Looks like this is going to take care of SLR which is what Advanced Solo loot turned into with CoE.

Slide23

Heroic Loot

  • Special rare items.
  • Mission system similar to Shadow Odyssey.
  • Really awesome temporary adornments will drop in heroic zones similar to Challenge Duo zones.

Slide24

Raid Loot

  • Going back to Patterns.

As you can see, Xelgad (with guidance from Kander) is actively doing Itemization, rather than Lootbot 3000 or the janitor. 😉

I’m about as hopeful about Itemization “overhaul” as the class “rebalancing” that they started in 2009… 2008… what year again?

Sorry to say, but not impressed. When we used to have set bonuses, we had effects that were improving our abilities, not just adding procs/damage. While the passive effects are great, IMO they don’t give as much satisfaction as improving specific abilities or traits about our class.

I’m trying to remember when the set bonuses were cool…TSO maybe? The issue was that they couldn’t really be upgraded, so they were maybe cool to earn once, but then every set after that needed to have the same bonus. Earning them the first time was cool, but then they became required, and you were just gimped if you didn’t have them.

Yeah, this whole thing is about giving us more choice in gear. Set bonuses remove any choice. We saw that with how long everyone had the PoW jewelry. Hopefully we’re moving away from them.

And yeah, that’s why I was never all that excited about getting the ranger myth cloak. I didn’t want to get used to the extra 20% range and then have to give it up when I replaced the cloak. Was the same reason focus effects got moved off gear.

I didn’t say they had to be set bonuses! It’s that the gear had interesting effects on them outside X% CB/pot.

Submit’d too soon. interesting effects give us choice. Should I upgrade 1% cb, or keep these useful ability upgrade. Current there are no choices, just upgrades, and usually bad sidegrades. Their supposed gear revamp, I doubt this will change.

I always liked the idea of “adornment” set bonuses with special (orange?) slots to build sets. That way, you didn’t break up the set if you got a new piece of gear. Just get the adornment again for the new piece of gear. Suggested it a while ago, but I guess they didnt’ like it.

Given how an item and adorn show up in Census and how things seem to behave in all my talks with the devs, this would likely require quite a bit of work to do something like this. That being said, I like it!

Also, there does NOT need to be a separate stat for spell weapons! If they all use the same blue stat, you only need to simply balance the items (the damage they do) to end up doing the intended amount of damage.

The extra text is completely unnecessary!

Really don’t want 9 classes fighting for chain, 6 for plate, 6 for cloth, and 4 for Leather….

I don’t think I want to play a shaman anymore and fight all those scouts for gear. Holy crap. It’s overwhelming.

Hooray for finally going back to patterns (I sure love watching mage alt #54 get their BP while still waiting for mine to ever drop for my guild… even once).

Not sure how the always-on effects are going to work, however. That could very easily be a prelude to far more aggressive control effects that basically require you to have an always-on immunity to it and similarly if there’s only a few slots for purple adorns necessitate multiple pieces of swap gear.

RIP easy AE auto etc. from reforging for priests, unless they do put that spell weapon damage bonus on enough spots and with a good enough reforge ratio to compensate. Will be interesting to see how well they balance it, or if this ends up being a sly way of cutting back on priest DPS (especially with the addition of a new hybrid priest-dps class…)

Also on a plus side, hopefully they’re finally getting away from 8,000 different mediocre damage procs on everything. God knows we need every bit of help they can get when it comes to lag these days.

I know it is not itemization related.
Feldon, if you read it, pls find out from Smed or SmokeJumper WHY European players can’t register to SOE Beta but are forced to register with P7S1. Even when we have active SOE account.

All they changes seem good but you killed the game long ass time ago only people who play are the ones who cant move on 7+ year vets but how you repay them here sur 9 year vet reward and all the new players just log in and get tokens in 50 days you get enough tokens to buy only iteam thats worth a crap in it.. Anyone remember why procs and other item effects suck? Oh yeah that’s right, when you upgrade THEY DISAPPEAR. Or you demand them again and again on the same gear slot until it gets absurd and they have to have things like Epic Repercussions and the Focus Effects tab.

I foresee a great mess with itemization yet again. I love how they bring new stats, then remove them, rename them or change the way everything works from one expansion to the next.
