GU61 – Do Over! AAs Reset and Items Unadorned Again on Friday!

Written by Dethdlr on . Posted in Game Updates & Maintenance

Apparently, two additional days wasn’t adequate to fully test everything coming in with GU61.  Who could have guessed?  There are reports that gear is randomly re-attuning itself when you zone or log off.  There is also some strangeness going on with AAs.  Rothgar has posted this on the official forums:

We will be hotifixing this bug tomorrow.  The downside is that all of your items will become unattuned again and we will refund adornments applied to any equipped gear.

After this runs tomorrow, the items should remain unattuned until you decide to attune them again.

Tomorrow’s hotfix will also include a fix for the AA trees not resetting properly or resetting at incorrect times.

Smokejumper has also chimed in on the issue:

Tomorrow’s hotfix will reset *all* AAs as originally planned. If you reassign AA points today, they will be reset again tomorrow, so feel free to experiment with settings today. You’ll get to reassign them again tomorrow.

Tomorrow’s hotfix will also properly unattune *all* items, even the ones in your bank. So you’ll need to reattune and empty out your overflow again tomorrow.

So I wouldn’t bother going through all your toons and making sure everything is set just right since tomorrow you’ll be thinking it’s GROUNDHOG DAY!

Actually, the gear re-attuning issue was found, /bugged, and posted about by players starting on Friday 8/19. We tested it. They just either didn’t notice our bug reports and posts or couldn’t figure out a fix in time.

Yes, it’s SO epic. It’s a whole DAY of delay. My god, they’re eating babies over there.

1st off SOE has gotten better at EPIC FAIL (666/450), secondly why is this being stated first here and not on the OFFICIAL forums/players website… I’m all for fansites but way to drop the ball whoever is in charge of communicating to the playerbase, I check official sites first and don’t see this posted anywhere there. Secondly 2 extra days obviously wasn’t enough, do any of you honestly test ANYTHING before it goes live? This is just sad, way to make most of us waste an afternoon just to have to do it again the next day =(

Meh, I’ll just take the opportunity to strip the adorns of the rest of my old gear 🙂

LOL! Why is anyone surprised? I knew what to expect. After more than a decade of experience with SOE, I can tell you that the one thing about SOE that never changes is that they never change… well unless it’s a change for the worse, I suppose.

One read through the GU61 update notes and I knew what to expect, so instead of logging in, I visited the forums. And sure enough, problems galore. Big problems. This isn’t going to be fixed tomorrow. Tomorrow is only going to be the start of a long series of fixes.

This could’ve been avoided, or at least been drastically reduced in its severity, if SOE had simply used Test the way Test is supposed to be used. Stop turning all the work those people are doing into wasted time and effort, Sony! No, I’m not a tester, but I feel their pain AND I’m sick of all the nonsense that could be avoided if they just listened to the Testers.

Actually, I have already uncovered several Dev comments concerning stuff they’ll get to “next week.” So, yeah, this is gonna be a long series of fixes as I predicted. Wish I could pick a freakin’ winning lotto number.

Surprisingly, I didn’t experience many issues today. Definitely none of the unattune/reattune problems people were having. Rather interesting to see inexpensive items on the broker that are better than pools/spire drops though. It’s definitely a work in progress, as always, but I have to agree with Lexxie, just another chance for getting some adorns back 🙂

I expected an hotfix Friday even before the Thursday Gu. Seriously, did anyone believe the Gu will be not followed by some hotfix ?

But we realy all love SOE, right ? or we wouldn’t read Eq2wire.com !

So I logged in to see what changes and such have happened. With this re-itemization, eight (read them EIGHT) peices of my jewelry gear became worthless. My neck peice that proc’d a ward, my belt that proc’d a heal on being hit; amongst other useful TANK peices had their strength removed and replace with either agility or intelligence.

My brigands t4 TSO raid gear became lesser quality stat wise (and in some peices, blue stats also) compared to the WoE t3 gear. Couple expansions behind I am in gear, but still, WTF is up with the itemization?!?!

That’s what you (SOE) get when you use an AI to make changes to 1000s of items and don’t bother to go back and check them. They admittedly only spot-checked.

But then again, that’s why we pay them right? To do the work for them in finding all the bugs? I mean, why else would they sticky a new thread solely for the purpose of feedback on bugs? Of course, that starts to sound suspiciously like Test to me.

I am just waiting until tomorrow to do anything like re-equip my gear. Disappointing day, on the whole.

Now I’m confused, because Smokejumper just said they would be providing a list of all the items that need to be redone NEXT WEEK. So… does that mean there is going to be a third reset?

Oh, there are bugs you say? And I thought SOE was suppose to be on top of their game.

I think I am going to take about a week or so break from EQ2 while they get their stuff together.

    @Sandain: That sounds about right.

Also, according to the posts I still see pouring onto the boards, this could take much longer, as it seems for the most part the entire re-itemization process was botched and they have several hundreds if not thousands of items to redo all over again. I hope they remembered to make a backup!

There is also serious bug with South Qeynos Guild Hall. Me and most of my guildies camped out our toons in GH before GU, now we are not able to log in to game. I have an alt logged in GD, so I tried to zone in to GH – it does not work at all as well. I see on channels that other ppl report the same issue. Not sure however if this happens only on Splitpaw or other servers as well. Just great :/

Could this patch have been worse? I don’t think so.

My favorite is the thread on the OF in General Gameplay started by the person who is trying out EQ2 for the first time. I don’t feel like posting over there, but really? Do you think this is a good time to download the game and try it out for the FIRST time? I find it interesting that thread hasn’t been moved to the newbie area, either (the concientious mods apparently think this is a GREAT piece of propaganda amidst the rest of the “this is broken” posts). Conspicuously absent is any player telling this guy to perhaps wait and try out the game next week, when it will actually work.

Groundhog Day was the last thing I was thinking. I doubt they will allow me to post my first dozen or so thoughts.

Quantity before Quality is SoE’s new slogan. Ask the american car manufacturers how well that worked out for them.

I was a manager for many years. I can tell you, if this group worked for me…someone would be in the unemployment line.

@Electri: “New” slogan? This has been how they’ve run things since at least the days of Planes of Power in EQ1. We’ve seen this type of thing again and again, and it never changes. It’s like they keep forgetting all the major CFs from the past and just keep repeating them.
