Mysterious Portals to Link EQ2 to the Past

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Live Events

From Piestro on the EverQuest Forums:

Almost 12 years ago the first truly 3d massively multiplayer online role playing game was awaiting its release to the public. To celebrate this momentous occasion, we here in EverQuest are celebrating and we want you to join us!

In Other Norraths

Grand events are afoot in EverQuest II starting later this month, where mysterious apparitions have been sighted! Portals through time have been appearing around Norrath, linking this age to an age before the Shattering. Journey through these portals to find the ancient heroes and villains of an age gone by. Reminisce about them. Then kill them and loot them for the really cool items they possess. There may be a connection between them; perhaps you should investigate them all.

So happy 12th EverQuest Anniversary, see you all at our Livecasts and in Norrath!

Someone been messing with Jethal’s farback machine again? 😛

I wonder if this mean they will be recreating zones from EQ1 for us to go to or just make a empty void zone and stuff a old named in there. It would be unbelievable but really cool if we could literally go back to EQ1 with our EQ2 toon. My Ratonga warden in the age of turmoil. People will say “It’s a named Rat Man! Get it!”

Sounds like it’s just a void zone with a boss mob … but you are right, it would be cool to go back to EQ1 with a toon and run around. Still, good job Devs for at least including something like this!

I love how nonchalant we are about murder for personal gain in the world of Everquest, haha. I suppose it’s OK though since they’ll always reincarnate, I mean respawn.

it is both a blessing and a curse of Norrath that nothing stays dead.

I think they need to work on their grammer:

“Grand events are afoot in EverQuest II starting later this month, where mysterious apparitions have been sighted! ”

Unless they really mean these apparitions are currently in game, but not activated?

“Yip Yip” Fippy here i come /evil smirk

seriously if they don’t put in Fippy I’m gonna be very disappointed cause that’s a no brainer.
OP: this seems like it should be fun for a decent bit, any ETA?

@Etruscus – I find it ironic that people have the temerity to chastise people and organizations on their “grammer” while misspelling the word “grammar”. Lmao. I like the sound of the portal event though, sounds fun!!

I went to the portals with my level 35 Wizard and guess what, even though it lowers you down to level 22 I couldn’t kill anything… so I asked my friend to go with me,guess what, killed us in one blow, you have to be 90 to do this, everything in EQ2 is made for 90’s, flying etc,you need flying at earlier levels for quest and such…90 is end game..I wish EQ2 would include new players in the game, and cater to them somewhat..

I disagree about being 90. Three of us not even close to 90, an illusionist, a wizard and a conjurer with no healer were able to go through several of these so far and to defeat the end mobs. I applaud the developers for putting the portals in. One thing I would like for myself is to get the music from the original EQ in MP3 format. I went back to EQ during the 10 day free play just to make the run from GFay to the Butcher Block docks and then through the Commonlands and the Karanas just for memory sake. I looked for the music for these zones but it appears the music from 1999 through the early 2000’s had not settled on a standard format that wasn’t imbedded into the code. If Sony would make them available like EQ2 that would be great. Music of some of these zones always brings a smile as they remind me of doing some stupid things like coming back from taking a shower to find 7 corpses inside the zone tunnel to LFay. Good thing I knew a cleric but it cost me a steak dinner 🙂
