Emily “Domino” Taylor, Tradeskill developer for EQ2 has been fielding some intense comments from players regarding the first ever Tradeskill Heritage Quest coming to EverQuest II: Destiny of Velious, specifically the Coldain Prayer Shawl quest. This was previously an adventure quest in EQ1 so some players have expressed their concerns about this being a tradeskill quest rather than for adventurers.
You can follow this discussion of the Coldain Prayer Shawl Quest on EQ2 Forums.
Here are some of Domino‘s comments:
To me, “epic” means it should make you feel heroic, the story should have a grand scale, the quest should stick in your memory and be something you tell your friends about.
This is also not an “epic quest” in the sense that term been used previously in EQ and EQ2. The epic quests are completed, as are their mythical upgrades. This is a heritage quest, and at the end of the day, the heritage quests in EQ2 are primarily about telling the story of items that were memorable from EQ.
I hope there are better ways to convey this feeling of “wow!” than forcing people to respec their class or perform a huge number of repetitive tasks for no other reason than to make the quest memorable in that way. I think I have some good ideas; I’m sure it’s not possible for 100% of everybody to be 100% satisfied with anything we do, but I hope the large majority will like it. I guess time will tell, though.
I think it’s a fantastic idea to have a tradeskill HQ. Seeing that the original quest involved a good bit of tradeskilling along the way, it’s the perfect choice. I actually hope it works the same way and upgrades as the quest progresses.
I hope they make it so that you can start it at level 20 artisan and it upgrades every 10 levels or so to be appropriate for the level. I also hope it offers some unique tradeskill effects. Not just +success chance or +skill or something, but like a rare chance to salvage a rare ingredient.
Anyway, there are plenty of adventuring quests. Throw tradeskillers a friggin’ bone, jeez.
