Written by Feldon on . Posted in Commentary, Expansion News

We are thrilled to present the first snapshot of the new in-game Highland Stalker mount exclusively available to players who purchase the EverQuest II: Sentinel’s Fate Collector’s Edition ($69.99).

The announcement from EQ2Players:

This is the Highland Stalker mount! The Highland Stalker will be available to characters from level one through level 90 and will have a 50% 65% boost to run speed. One important thing to note about the Highland Stalker: This mount is exclusive to the Collector’s Edition of Sentinel’s Fate. There will be no other Highland Stalker mounts!

Also, here is a photo of the Highland Stalker (armored lynx) miniature you’ll receive in the Collector’s Edition box:

EQ2Wire Commentary

I think it’s the best-looking animal-based mount EQ2 has ever had. However the 50% runspeed is going to limit its popularity, to say the least. Our latest news is that the Highland Stalker will have a runspeed of 65%. Hopefully devs will provide a way to upgrade it to 70, 75, or even 80% with some stats, say by turning in the in-box Whistle, plus some raid dropped item, and turning it into a new mount.

And for this to be exclusive to the Retail Collector’s Edition would require a complete reversal of what we saw in Kunark/TSO where raid devs, group devs, tradeskill devs, live event devs all get in on the action of putting popular mounts anywhere and everywhere. Within 2 months of The Shadow Odyssey launching, the bear mount was available via grouping and raiding. EQ2Wire predicts that we’ll see this mount again, just with a name other than “Highland Stalker”.

I am sure I know the answer to this question but does anyone know how many of these mounts we get? Is it one per toon, like the bear from the Shadow Odyssey expansion or a limited number per account?

For me i just want the expansion so i can keep up with my raiding guild. The price on doing so isn’t worth the price of the collectors edition. I wont be getting a kitty, but i got my boring old rime horse to last me a little while longer. lol

I couldnt agree more, that is a fantastic looking mount. I must say though, the 50% run speed was the deal breaker on which boxed set to buy. On the other hand, I have 2 accounts and save $60.00 since there is no reason, for me, to buy the collectors edition with the mount being so slow.

Great job and the info as always Feldon
    Thanks,

Personally will be buying the SE for the mount but very disappointed in the fact that the mount is only 50% run speed I mean give me a break we are finally into lvl 90 and the mount is only 50% speed I know, I know about going through your AA’s for faster mount speed but just give us a mount that is 70% then with are AA’s it would be around 90%!

Those stupid Reaper Miniatures are really stupid they do that sort of thing for so many games and everyone complains later but the only company that actually went ahead and did something a little different was with BioShock from 2K, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, the Figurine that was shipped with the Special Edition of the game is 6 inches on height! It really would have been nice if SoE made these Figurine mounts have the quality look of the Big Daddy that was bundled in with the Special Edition of BioShock!

Check out the BioShock Special Edition Bundle with Figurine here:

Have a question … will the mount be available to every character on my account? or only one (as in the burynai from several expansions ago). I can’t seem to find an answer to this anywhere, and it affects my decision as to which version of SoF to pre-order. Thanks for your help!

    Mr Skyfish,

You’ll be happy to know that the mount has been boosted to 65%. I still hope for a version with no or minimal armor, and a version with 75%. The idea that there will only be one cat is absurd to me. I want other colors, other armors, etc. etc.

    Tikatika,

I don’t have it written anywhere as proof, but I presume it will be just like the TSO bear and claimable on every toon on your account.

I personally think it is really unfair to charge $30.00 more in order to get the highland stalker mount!!! Looks like the people with the most real life money will benefit from this!! Last expansion, the limited edition cost the same as the regular one..but they were sold in limited amounts of course. I think that Sony might have scaled the price down a bit to perhaps $10.00 more instead of $30.00….imho
Are we going to be able to get better mounts in game, in some way I hope?
