Getting Reflections Back

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Art, Appearance, Housing, Expansion News, Game Updates & Maintenance, Tradeskill

From Domino on the EQ2 Forums:

I spent the afternoon today lurking around listening in channels, including the homeshow channel, and heard quite a few comments about some changes to water textures and reflections. (Thanks to all who provided details!)

I talked to GermInUSA, who has been working on improving water and reflections lately. The quick fix is to turn on this display option:

Ctrl-O (open your options); click the advanced button; under the display options, in the “water” section, tick the “water reflections” tick box. (Despite the name, this also affects non-water reflections.)

A Tale of Two Servers: Freeport, Everfrost

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Expansion News, Game Updates & Maintenance

Rothgar, Zoltaroth, and others on the EQ2 team, as well as OPS (Operations) were up until all hours trying to wrangle Everfrost and the Freeport [EQ2X] servers into behaving reliably. But first, a quick fix for Everfrost players who are missing characters:

Everfrost players who are still missing characters are encouraged to follow the instructions on the EQ2 Forums. In short, go to your EQ2 folder and delete your LoginCache and LoginCache-US folders, as well as any <Servername>_characters.ini files.

Destiny of Velious a No Show at its Broadway Debut

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Expansion News

It seems that all has not gone smoothly for the Destiny of Velious expansion launch. We are now +45 minutes with no sign of time estimate on when Velious will make its appearance.

No word on Script Rewrites, OSHA Violations (think of the poor gnomes), or Work Visa checks (are those Freebloods from Romania, Hungary, or Druidia?).

From SmokeJumper on the EQ2 Forums:

Well…launches always have at least one “gotcha” in them to make sure we’re awake and paying attention, I suppose.

We’ve got a missing asset issue that we’re troubleshooting right now. The gates will open as soon as we get it resolved.

More soon!

and later:

We’re missing some assets and working to get that resolved now.

As soon as that’s fixed, we’re good-to-go! No ETA yet, but we’re working on it.

We are receiving wild estimates about how long Velious could be delayed, some up to 3 hours.

Destiny of Velious Launch Day Coverage & Patching

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Commentary, Expansion News

EQ2 Servers will be going down in about 10 minutes to commence preparations for the Destiny of Velious expansion. We thought we’d take a quick look around the web to see how other press and EQ2 sites are covering the expansion.

  • Calthine and Cyliena over at EQ2 ZAM have been working their fingers to the nubs catalogging every Quest, NPC, and Item in Velious. They plan to unlock their quest guides throughout the day.
  • Niami Denmother at EQ2Traders has loaded up her site with tons of Tradeskill info about Velious.

We are hopeful that EverSeek, Beetny’s AA Calculator, and Mitzy’s Adornment Guide will be updated soon to reflect Velious changes.

If you find any other sites that are working on EQ2 coverage, please drop a note in the comments and we’ll update this article!

Destiny of Velious Launch Trailer @ Massively

In the last Webcast, we were told to be on the lookout for a trailer for EverQuest II‘s seventh expansion Destiny of Velious. This trailer is now exclusively available for viewing at Massively.com.

Watch the trailer at Massively.com and then come back and post your comments about the trailer, as well as your thoughts on what has, to us, been a very low-key (some would say hush-hush!) launch.

A Closer Look at War Runes

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Expansion News, Itemization, Raiding

In the Destiny of Velious Webcast #3 (video and notes), we first heard about War Runes. These are a new set of Red Adornments available to raiders in the Destiny of Velious. They’re essentially a “greatest hits” of the best, most popular, most powerful Procs/Effects from Avatars, Shadow Odyssey Fabled, and Sentinel’s Fate Fabled. War Runes open up Red Adornments to new slots, specifically Weapons (Primary, Secondary, Ranged), Charms, Belts, and Cloaks. From Silius in Webcast #3:

[War Runes are applicable to] your 3 weapon slots, 2 charm slots. Easy mode raids will have belts that have a red slot. Hard mode raids will have cloaks that have a red slot. So hard mode raiders can add effects to 7 total slots, on top of having red slots on their raid armor.

War Runes are the more specialized procs, custom-made procs, a lot of which are upgraded from Sentinel’s Fate procs that players have noted as being their favorites, the procs that make an item their favorite item.

These are raid-only dropped adornments. Whoever loots them and clicks on a War Rune gets flagged so he/she can go to a War Rune merchant and buy that adornment for raid shards. He/she gets permanent access to them.

9 Cool Things We’re Getting Next Tuesday

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Art, Appearance, Housing, Expansion News, Grouping

Coinciding with each Expansion, there has traditionally been a Game Update. There have been numerous features which are available whether you’ve purchased the expansion or not. Today, we look closer into some of the features that will likely (but which we can certainly not guarantee) be available on Tuesday to all players. It is POSSIBLE that some of these items may end up being flagged Velious-only, so this is our best guess at this point…

Guild Hall Tapestries with Guild Heraldry

File this under things we heard about since the Fan Faire that launched EQ2Wire where Guild Halls were furst premiered, but at long last, we’re getting Guild Hall Tapestries with Guild Heraldry on them! Crafters will be able to craft a blank Tapestry item which, once you place it in your house or guild hall, it will adopt your guild heraldry. Some last-minute changes to the appearance were being made, so we don’t have a screen shot for you. If you’ve forgotten what Guild Heraldry looks like (mostly due to the amazing looks now available on cloaks), check out the EQ2 Guild Cloak Designer tool.

NO TRADE/HEIRLOOM Drops Tradeable Among Participants for 48 Hours

NO TRADE and HEIRLOOM items that drop from a chest will now remain tradable for 48 hours with any character who was present in the group when the mob/encounter was killed.  As soon as you attune or adorn the item, this provision drops. This should certainly cut down on Customer Service Petitions. This is NOT a change to being able to sell loot rights, nor does it make items any more tradeable to people who weren’t present than the current setup.

After the jump, seven more features we’re getting on Tuesday.

Destiny of Velious Webcast #4 Starting Now

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Expansion News

From EverQuest2.com:

This Friday, February 18th, members of the EQII Development Team will join us again to give an exclusive tour of Destiny of Velious!

  • Friday, February 18 at 4:00 pm PST [Midnight-1:00 GMT on Feb 19]: Live Tour of Destiny of Velious! Join members of the EQII team for a live walkthrough of the new expansion. Producer Dave “Smokejumper” Georgeson and Game Designer Paul “Cronyn” Molina will be on hand to give you an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Destiny of Velious.

Tune in on Facebook or on Stickam to watch the fourth webcast this Friday!

UPDATE

We joined the Webcast along with some 1,450 other viewers at its peak. The video was rather choppy for us, and the audio was mostly describing the visuals. We’ll look for the video to get posted on SOE’s Youtube Portal. It should be much smoother to watch.

More DoV Content Already in the Can, Qeynos/Freeport Revamp in the Future?

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Expansion News

In furtherance of that less-than-optimistic thread about Destiny of Velious, SgtPmpkn had this to say:

Supposedly this content is already created, as the art/lore/mechanics/etc are mostly complete. Once the base Velious is released, they will tweaks any bugs that arise, but also then be testing the content for the next GU, which would be a larger amount of time, to test and tweak, if they already have the art assets and other items already done.

To which SmokeJumper (EQ2’s Senior Producer) responded:

Yup. That’s the plan. We didn’t want to release everything at once, or else we’d get the “rip through it and leave it behind” syndrome that we’ve had in past years. So we’re releasing some of the dungeons and raids after release…but that doesn’t mean we can just wait to do them until later.

As some of you have said in this thread, the GUs are important also, and we’ve got big plans for what we’d like to do this year in those GUs. We can’t create a “resource debt” by leaving DoV 1 content to be done later. So even though that stuff isn’t in at release, most of it is done already.

That lets us concentrate on other stuff we’ve been dying to do, like improve PvP/BGs and revamp Qeynos & Freeport.
