Those Goblin Game Tickets we heard about are now available on the StationCash marketplace on the Test server. It looks like the ticket is only consumed after you succeed at one of the three mini-games and receive one of the prizes. Thus far, the prizes seem to be run-of-the-mill StationCash items.

We recently saw the end of paying EQ2 subscriptions with StationCash (which, due to triple SC weekends and 50% off sales, allowed players to buy a YEAR’S EQ2 subscription for $14.99 — or an EQ2 sub for as little as $1.25 a month).

On August 29th, the ability to buy EQ2 expansions for StationCash will similarly come to an end. With various promotions, it was possible to buy an EQ2 expansion normally retailing for $39.95 for as little as $6.65.

SOE is providing this upcoming weekend as a grace period to buy expansions for 50% off with StationCash. The only shocking bit of news here is that it took so long for subscriptions and expansions to be removed from the Marketplace.

• Commander Goreslaughter and Corpsemaul ? The crystals of death and destruction now have unique appearances and spawn close to the commanders, in 2 sets of 2. There are only 3 diaku war riders per wave and they no longer knockback.

One month ago (May 20th, 2012), SOE offered a 50% Rebate on the entire StationCash Marketplace. When compounded with Triple StationCash weekends and Walmart 500SC Bonus cards, this meant $15 could buy one year’s EQ2 subscription.

On June 8th, EQ2 Subscriptions vanished from the StationCash Marketplace. After an outcry, SOE President John Smedley stepped in and admitted that the pricing of EQ2 Subscriptions was being impacted by various SC discounts and sales, and then announced that EQ2 Subscriptions would be restored to the Marketplace for a one week grace period so players who wanted to fund EQ2 Subscriptions with StationCash could do so. Mischief managed, or so we thought.

On late Thursday June 15th, a 50% Off StationCash deal was announced for the June 16-18 weekend, along with the news that EQ2 Subscriptions would stay on the Marketplace over this 50% Off weekend. Players who had already divested their StationCash during the “grace period” (which had an unknown end date) to fund EQ2 Subscriptions were unsurprisingly infuriated.

SOE President John Smedley has personally addressed the removal of EQ2 Subscriptions from the StationCash Marketplace:

Quick note – I’m sorry we didn’t do a good job of messaging this. It was handled while we were at E3 and that was bad. Very simply put we pulled the non-recurring subscriptions because we want a closer look at the numbers and how our overall pricing of subscriptions is impacted by it. I don’t want anyone thinking they were pulled because of double DC promotions or anything like that. We know what we’re getting into when we run those promotions. We’ve been running them for years and we run them because our players like them. It may surprise people, but we actually see terrific numbers on the days we run those promotions so it’s a win-win for our players and for us.

EverQuest 2 subscriptions unceremoniously disappeared from the StationCash marketplace yesterday, and players have had plenty to say on the subject. The removal was not unanticipated, but doing so without advanced warning, an announcement, or even an acknowledgment, is yet another betrayal of player’s trust in SOE.

This weekend, if you redeem $15 StationCash cards, you will be credited with 1,500SC plus 500SC bonus, for a total of 2,000SC. This works out to a 33% bonus — or if you prefer, a 25% discount.

After Double and Triple StationCash weekends, 50% off sales, and Rebates, it will be interesting to see how much pent up demand is satisfied with the relatively meager discount this go-around.
