On Test: Housing Leaderboards, Moonlight Enchantments, Quest Fixes, and Recipe Clutter?

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Art, Appearance, Housing, DGC Wants Feedback, Tradeskill

The Test server was updated last night with a number of tweaks, fixes, and improvements.

First up, the Housing and Leaderboards windows have been merged into a new megawindow. From Ahma:

We’ve added a new window: Housing and Leaderboards. This UI element, which can be accessed via the EQII menu and from the Housing and Leaderboards buttons to the right of the EQII menu, combines some old windows and allows easy access to many housing related features. It allows you to manipulate all your current houses, browse and buy new houses, visit houses associated with the current zone you are in, and view the current housing leaderboards. Please check it out and give us your feedback!

Next, the monthly Moonlight Enchantments event is gaining 2 new quests and 23 new item rewards:

  • “Comforting Confections” – Speak with Shasta Evergreen in the Enchanted Zygomyd Grotto
  • “Blooming Good Tea” – Speak with Odeyana in the Enchanted Fay Grotto

EQ2Traders: Game Update 66 Crafting/Housing Preview

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Art, Appearance, Housing, Game Updates & Maintenance, Tradeskill

Niami Denmother has come through with another set of previews on her EQ2Traders site for tomorrow’s Game Update 66: Scars of the Awakened.

Here’s a master list of the reading material I have put together for folks regarding the crafting/housing side of things. The Crafting/Housing Preview contains links to all of the other pages mentioned below, but this should help if you want to shortcut to something specific.

Niami’s previews go into some of the new features in Game Update 66 such as Pitch and Roll for house items, pictured below:

And you don’t have to memorize the command to hide/show the Housing control wheel above (I personally dislike it, but it’s how you must access Pitch and Roll commands), as a new Housing sidebar has been added:

Game Update 66: Scars of the Awakened Update Notes

From EverQuest2.com:

All EQ2 Servers will come down on Tuesday, April 30, at 7:00 am Pacific Time* for Game Update 66: Scars of the Awakened. The expected downtime is three hours. Part of this maintenance will occur at the same time as a SOE-wide maintenance.

Game Update 66: SCARS OF THE AWAKENED
Update Notes

Ever vigilant, Norrathians march united under the banner of the New Combine army, deeper into the perilous continent of Velious.

Finally, the army breaches the borders of a region known as Cobalt Scar – a majestic, lush, but tormented region. And from within dark passages in the surrounding mountains, the inhabitants of Sirens Grotto beckon to all.

The first news heard from Cobalt Scar concerns tribes of Othmir that succumbed to an unfortunate fate that now threatens everyone. Further examination into the area will reveal a foreboding presence of the Awakened Legion, a force of evil that decimated dragonkind in the legendary city of Skyshrine.

Nearby, in the watery depths of Sirens Grotto – unseen by landwalkers for the ages – it is said that the caverns hold secrets of their own. And the beguiling siren coven known as the Darkwater Sisters will not give up those secrets easily.

All the while, the Ages End Prophecy looms with its promise to see Kerafyrm – Norrath’s most evil, powerful dragon – bring a violent end to the world. Heroes from every corner of Norrath are called to explore this new land in Velious and fight for a future for all.

EQ2Talk Episode #63 — Candid Kander

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Game Updates & Maintenance, Grouping, Itemization, Raiding, Tradeskill

Wednesday’s sprawling two hour Critical Hit podcast with Nathan “Kaitheel” McCall is absolutely worth listening to, as Nathan goes into the best uses of design hours, what it takes to revamp zones such as Qeynos and Freeport, why the starting islands were removed, the importance of storytelling, and more.

But if you are a raider or otherwise into the mechanics and itemization of EQ2, and you listen to only one EQ2 podcast this month, it should be EQ2Talk Episode #63 with Kyle “Kander” Vallee. He goes into a lot of the thinking behind the upcoming update (and this fall’s expansion), has some refreshing vision towards the future of EQ2, itemization and content design, and is very candid about some of the missteps in Chains of Eternity as well as other past changes.

All comments below are paraphrased from Kander’s comments in the 1 hour 40 min podcast. Any errors in meaning are the fault of the editor.

Stat Consolidation

  • If there is one thing Kander could go back and change about EQ2, he would never have gone along with Stat Consolidation (where each class has just one primary stat and then Stamina for increasing health).  The different benefits you got from each stat were some of the “meat and bones” of EQ2 and chasing different stats and having to make choices on which gear you equip added a lot of depth. We had a lot more choice itemization-wise. For example, building up Intelligence to increase poison damage for scouts.
  • As far as Stat Consolidation, we’re actually planning to head back in that direction as far as the next expansion to provide more choices. Right now, itemization feels a little bit stale. Players should need to think about their gear.

Game Update 66: Cobalt Scar Crafting Guide at ZAM!

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Game Updates & Maintenance, Tradeskill

From EQ2 Zam:

EverQuest II’s lastest game update, Scars of the Awakened, is right around the corner with new content for Norrathian crafters! Be sure to take your artisan to Cobalt Scar where Acting Supplymaster Grant could use a hand. Along the way you’ll help the Othmir, save the day at the main camp, and help a mysterious dark elf. Your reward is a nifty set of gloves handed down the Bayle line. Be sure to check out our Cobalt Scar Crafting Series guide and the shopping list so you’re not shy on resources.

Level 95 crafters will find that their Apprentices have some new ideas and need new equipment to get the job done. The new researched recipes will use Tier 10 resources and are set up so that while they require more reactants, those reactants aren’t as hard to come by as they are in the level 80 recipes.

Tier 10 recipe books are being renamed to be consistent with other tiers. With GU66 all volumes will be available on the usual merchants, although the Advanced ones are quite expensive. It’s important to note that you can still get these recipes adventuring and questing, and you don’t have to buy them from an NPC to obtain them.

Game Update 66, Scars of the Awakened, is slated to hit live servers Tuesday April 30. Be sure to log in this weekend and get some of that bonus experience!

On Beta: Game Update 66 Notes

Logo Mockup by EQ2Wire

In addition to the new content in Game Update 66, which hits Beta today and will go live on April 30th, there are numerous class tweaks. But instead of class balance (although there is some of that), the overriding theme of the class improvements in this update could best be summed up as “What Bugs Your Class Most?” All those things about your class that drive you crazy, like having to be directly behind the mob to use your biggest hits as a Dirge, or having to be exactly 5 meters from the mob to do both your Melee and Ranged CAs as a Ranger.

Read over the notes and give us your take. Are these great, long overdue changes, or does it almost go too far, making things a little too convenient? As a Ranger, I’m excited about the changes, but will I become even lazier now that I can stand pretty much anywhere in the room and do my maximum DPS? I certainly applaud a number of the changes which were things that “didn’t make sense” which have now been fixed.

EQ2Wire Transcript: GU66 Scars of the Awakened Lore Webcast

Not everyone has the time to watch a Twitch or Youtube video talking about upcoming Game Updates, Expansions, Features, etc. Some are not able to watch videos at work and would rather read a transcript. And there are a number of EQ2 players who are hearing impaired. So for you guys, I am happy to present another EQ2Wire exclusive Transcript of an SOE Webcast. Next Tuesday on Beta: Game Update 66 & Player Studio Houses

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Art, Appearance, Housing, Game Updates & Maintenance, Tradeskill

This was posted over a week ago, but I wanted to post some commentary about the forthcoming ability for house decorators to sell their house layouts on the Marketplace. And since that time, there have been a number of clarifications from EQ2 Programmer Kenneth “Terrogaunt” Roecks which further shed light on what we can expect.

Here’s Holly “Windstalker” Longdale’s initial announcement:

Greetings to our decorators – existing and potential,

These are very exciting times for passionate decorators! On April 2, when we start Open Beta for Game Update 66 “Scars of the Awakened,” we will also be inviting you to test our Player Studio House category that allows you to buy and sell decorated houses of all types, shapes, and sizes in our marketplace! Sellers earn a real portion of the profits!

We are working on details right now to make decorating simple to do and test. For example, your new character copies to Beta will include the houses you have on your server so setting up homes to sell should be easy.

We are working on a lot of details behind the scenes to get Player Studio Houses ready too, including a new Web page that will allow you to pre-qualify to sell houses through Player Studio (if you’re not already qualified through Player Studio) so you can get ready to sell houses when the category launches. We will let you know as soon as pre-qualifying is live!

Our goal right now is to launch Player Studio Houses with our game update on April 30!

Grab yer best stein! Brewday — March 7 – March 18

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Art, Appearance, Housing, Live Events, Tradeskill

From the EQ2 Forums:

Many moons ago, the Dwarves started Brewday in honor of Brell. Now, each year, portals appear in Antonica, Commonlands, Haven, Greater Faydark, Timorous Deep, and Frostfang Sea to lead you to the Bar of Brell, where new and classic adventures await those thirsty and foolhardy enough to enter!

Otengard Brauer has also set up a Beer Garden in the Butcherblock Mountains, but the ale seems to have attracted some goblins. Help him while competing against others in an effort to rid the area of the most goblins. And as you’re crawling through the bars and drinking holes throughout Norrath, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for special items of interest to collect!

Brewday begins on March 7th, 2013 at 12:01 am 1:40am Pacific Time and runs until March 18, 2013 at 11:59 pm Pacific.

On Test: New, Larger Storage Depot Options for Guilds

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Game Updates & Maintenance, Tradeskill

In addition to a number of other player-requested changes, tweaks, and bug fixes, the coolest thing on the Test server right now may just be the evolution of the Guild Harvest Depot. The changes on Test dramatically increase the capacity and possible variety of materials which can be stored in the Guild Harvest Depot, as well as introducing a number of new types of storage container. With the new Depots, guilds will be able to de-clutter their Guild Bank of Poisons, Ammo, Totems (soon), Cure Potions, Food & Drink, Collectibles, Player-made Adornments, and Lore & Legend parts. These items will each go into their own storage containers.

From the Test Update notes:

  • The maximum number of different resources that you can store in a Guild Harvest Depot has been increased from 200 to 1000.
  • The maximum number of items in a single depot stack has been increased from 20,000 to 99,999.
  • Several new Depots have been added as guild amenities! Check the “Depot” tab in your guildhall amenity list for details.
  • You can now use the Deposit All button on depots to deposit every valid component from your bags.

Frostfell 2012 Preview @ EQ2Traders

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Art, Appearance, Housing, Live Events, Tradeskill

Whew! With a little over 12 hours to spare before Frostfell 2012 goes live, I finally have the Frostfell 2012 crafting preview done! I bet you folks didn’t think I’d have it done in time – I know I didn’t think I’d finish it before tomorrow! Fortunately, I had some phenomenal help from a pair of SOE Frostfell Elves with regards to most of the images, and I think I caught all the high points.

I take full responsibility for the ogress images that make you want eyeball bleach – I thought they’d help keep you from going into sugar shock as you look at all the nummy Frostfell goodness found in Frostfell 2012 Vignettes

Chains of Eternity Crafting Guide @ EQ2Traders

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Expansion News, Tradeskill

Like clockwork, Niami Denmother of EQ2Traders has turned out a fantastic guide to crafting in the Chains of Eternity expansion.

In this guide, she updates us on Handcrafted and Mastercrafted armor, jewelry, weapons, and so forth which have received a complete set of items (rather than being dragging out until level 100). She also delves into the new set of white Adornments, a new type of green Adornment called Spirit Stones, dramatic improvements to Tinkering, the powerful new Tradeskill Prestige abilities, and an update on the Tradeskill AAs tab which now has its own 40 points to spend. While there are no Tradeskill quests in the expansion, the number of new concepts being added to Tradeskills shows that the EQ2 team want crafting to remain relevant for the foreseeable future. Niami’s guide is broken out into 2 additional sections as shown:

  • Tradeskill AAs & Tradeskill Prestige
    • Mass Production — producing up to 100 items at once
    • Experimentation — increasing the power/stats of an item, each time at greater risk to the item!
    • Refining — Producing highly refined (and thus more powerful) items by first refining tradeskill rares into pure rares.

They may yet find the answer lies not in fortunes and portents, but deep in Norrath’s past. Adventurers will also uncover all new areas in the mortal realm of Norrath.

The fate of the living and the dead are in your hands, heroes! Are you up to the challenge before you?

I don’t want to misquote anyone, so I am transcribing the most clear-cut questions and answers. Anything else will be in the transcript video.

Question about tradeskillers making kilts and getting more styles.

Q: Freeport and Qeynos lets anyone do writs. Neriak is more picky. Gorowyn is selective as well. Can this be made more consistent?

Q: A Krono is $17.99. Why is it more than 30 days sub costs at Walmart for $14.99?
A: We don’t endorse the selling of cards in-game, but it’s a completely supported in-game method of trading in-game subs.
Q: Are you going to try to stop selling cards for plat?
A: No.

Play as your Character comes to Dungeon Maker

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Art, Appearance, Housing, Game Updates & Maintenance, Grouping, Tradeskill

First mentioned by SmokeJumper shortly after the Age of Discovery expansion was released, SOE has now introduced the ability to Play as Yourself in player-made Dungeon Maker dungeons. The secret is an advanced auto-mentoring system which allows for Level Agnostic play. That functionality will also roll out this month with a revamp to Battlegrounds that brings players of different tiers together.

We have commented in the past on the extreme limitations of designing Dungeon Maker content, which rarely rises above placing enemies strategically and hoping for the best, but being able to play as your own character instead of driving avatars is a huge step in the right direction. Play as your Character also nicely dovetails into last week’s announcement of the winners of the Dungeon Maker contest.
