Screen Shake-Disabling Checkbox Coming Soon!

EverQuest II attracts a diverse playerbase with different desires and physical abilities. Some players have limited eyesight, the use of only one hand, or other physical differences which require adaptation, special controllers, disabling certain game features such as particle effects, etc. For years, EQ2 has “shaken the camera” to convey the force and effect of certain attacks, the earth moving, etc. However certain players have very negative reactions to this visual such as vertigo, headaches, and nausea. After years of requests, now it looks like those who wish to suppress this jarring cosmetic effect will soon have an in-game checkbox.

From Bunji on the EQ2 Forums:

This option will be on Test server today after it updates ( under “Camera” in advanced options ).

Now if we can just get a solution for Colorblind players. Perhaps a Tint setting in-game, or a config file “eq2_colorshift.xml” that players can add a list of zones identified as having a lot of red or green tints which are basically invisible to strongly red-green colorblind players. This way, zones like Thalumbra, Veeshan’s Peak, etc. would be automatically shifted in hue. As it is, some of these highly saturated zones are practically unnavigable for certain players. There are some third party DirectX filters, but an in-game feature would be preferable.

The colorblindness issue could be covered by more careful design. (Whoever decided on blue and green as colors to distinguish in a certain current raid pull should be flogged. This has come up in our raid force.)

The overwhelming majority of people are not colourblind, so the default UI should not be changed to accommodate color blindness. However an alternative “skin” or colour scheme should exist for those who do. For which there’s many that already exist out there.

I’m not color blind.. but green/blue are too close together.. especially with other spell effects going off. The problem with the colors on that fight is not, specifically, about color-blindness. It would be similar to an orange/red or orange/yellow pair.

The issue is not the UI. The issue is when the entire zone is BLOOD RED.

It is funny, but the EQ2 developers could learn a lot from other games. Borderlands 2 already has a colorblind function which allows you to switch for those that have colorblindness. The only reason EQ has not done something like that in my opinion is that they are constantly just recoloring and reusing old art.

Is the bug that the camera suddenly spins up in the sky fixed?

I thought that was just my mouse getting old. if I so much as click I either have a view strait down or a view from under my mount/character’s’s butt…
So that’s the game doing that? I’ve spent so much time scouring the laser and mouse pad for cat hair too…
