Time-Locked Expansion Server (TLE) – Fallen Gate FAQ

Written by Feldon on . Posted in EQ2, TLE/Prestige Servers

From the EQ2 Forums:

What is a Time Locked Expansion server?
A TLE server has a special ruleset which restricts content and allows players to revisit exciting adventures from previous eras of EverQuest II.  Every 12 weeks, content from the next expansion will unlock allowing progression through much of the original game content over time.

Who can play on a TLE server?
All Access Membership is required to create characters and play on the Fallen Gate server.

How will content unlocking work?
Every approximately 12 weeks, a new expansion and it associated content will unlock on the server.  Adventure packs such as the Fallen Dynasty will release 6 weeks into the applicable expansion.

What Races/Classes will be available at launch?
All classes and races will be completely available so hop in as a Sarnak, Beastlord, or Channeler!  Some races and classes are sold individually and must be owned to utilize.

Will Guildhalls be available?
Guildhalls will be made available during a future expansion unlock.

What Starting Areas are Available?
Starting areas will be Outpost of the Overlord and Queen’s Colony on the original Isle of Refuge. Darklight Wood and Frostfang Sea are available via the travel bells. Timorous Deep and Greater Faydark will not be available until those expansions are released.

Can I transfer my character to Fallen Gate?
No transfers will be available at the launch of Fallen Gate.  Should this change we will let players know.

Can I use my /claim items?
Claim items will be restricted based on expansion and in some cases not ever made available to preserve the progression of the server.

What will combat be like?
The difficulty of encounters has been tuned to account for combat mitigation so players should find them more challenging than on normal servers.

What will be available for Tradeskills?
Tradeskilling should look similar to the original EverQuest II launch.  Apprentices will not be made available until a later date.

Can I use a Mercenary?
The Mercenary feature will not be made available until the Age of Discovery expansion.

Can I participate in Player vs Player or other competitive content?
Battlegrounds and Proving Grounds will not be available on Fallen Gate.

What will be available for purchase in the Marketplace?
The Majority of the Marketplace will be available at launch, with the exception of a few items that will be locked behind future expansions.

Will experience values be tuned for Fallen Gate?
Experience penalties have been returned to launch values.

Will Spell Research be available on Fallen Gate?
With the launch of Fallen Gate, Spell Research will be made available on both Fallen Gate and Stormhold servers.

Will rewards and itemization reflect early EverQuest II?
While items drops are not the same as they were in the early days of EverQuest 2, both items and encounter power have been adjusted to a approximate the play experience of launch.  So while items have more stats, such as DPS, potency, or critical bonus, the encounters have been tuned to expect those stats, so the fight balance should be relatively the same.

No they’re not. TS is only missing adorning, tinkering, and research apprentices.

(the original XP debt when dying is missing too. I kinda miss the corpse runs at the bottom of Fallen Gate)

Someone just asked about this on Discord and Kander said no subcombines.

No changes to crafting itself, they meant just, no tinkering/adorning/expansion stuff until it gets unlocked with the corresponding expac.

    Wupti duuh.

All the TLE is, be it Stormhold or Fallen Gate, is the live server with some switches turned off. I know people are going to be disappointed with FG just like they ultimately were with SH. Even though some tweaking has been done here and there with the impending release of FG, Itemization is still all over the place in general and the xp rate does not match up with quests and the ability to use quest rewards. Also, lets face it, most of the people that are going to play on the FG TLE are veteran players and honestly, how many more times can we keep playing the same content over and over, no matter how good it was the first few times around?

I think most people are going to make a character there because they are bored or frustrated with the live servers, but I think at the end of vanilla, most people will have quit if they even last that long.

I will be playing FG but only enough to unlock the HQ rewards on main server and Stormhold. After all how many servers can a body cover?

I think we can take the Negative Nancying down a notch, maybe? At least with regard to Fallen Gate. After all, most people who witnessed the first few expansions on Stormhold agree that what drove people away from early TLE was not boredom, but rather the botched manner in which the game mechanics were handled. KoS in particular was a mess. For returning players especially, why start on a traditional server when (a) there’s so much catching up to do and (b) current content has been terribly designed from a gameplay perspective? Give Fallen Gate and TLE a chance.

Yes, it’s unfortunate that this will lead to attrition on Stormhold. They want their cash crab. If you don’t want to play, fine. But there’s plenty to be critical about already, such as, ahem, the actions of the dev team with respect to current content and communications with players. If anything, TLE is the one thing over the past 12 months or so that has been done fairly well. Place blame where it most deserves to be placed.

I disagree, more should be said about the sheer laziness of this game, that, rather than developing new content, we get yet another junky old server. Remember when we actually got new content in the spring/summer? Yeah, that didn’t happen this year, I don’t count proving grounds as new because any place that can cause your account to become broken shouldn’t be visited.

Other than raiding, I’m gone. I started playing Everquest as a tester in 1998, and I think the people that started these games would be appalled at the current state. You cannot effect a change anymore, any talking to the current mantra will either be ignored or get you banned. I now speak with my wallet, and by warning others, find something else to do with your time, THAT message might have teeth.

I understand your issue, but what other game is really out there? None, that I can see. I am playing until my year membership runs out and am done then, and will hang up my MMO gear forever. Because even with all the stupid things they have done to this game I can’t find another one I enjoy playing

Though I am not totally disagreeing with you, it is a sad testament to a game that the main reason for continuing to play it is because you haven’t found anything else that 100 percent compares to it when it was a great game and not because its great now. I always used to say the same thing myself. I have played pretty much every mmo out there and for a while I was always glad to return to EQ2, but now I don’t have that same feeling and I am sad to say it. For the first time in a long time, I also don’t see myself renewing my subscription when it expires. I think most of us stay out of habit and/or friends, but I don’t think it is out of pure and total enjoyment. Just my 2 cents, but I respect every one’s view point of course.

Every one I have spoken to absolutely hates EQ2 now. They stay for a combination of friends and they feel they’ve invested so much time and money they have to continue playing.

I stay. because. I too have spent a ton of time and money in the years since I started in 2004, but I am not happy. I come to get the free loyalty point and the occasional quest, but my sub no longer exists — waiting now for something else to catch my eye and the alpha to get going in Pantheon, that is where I will be spending my time when it gets here; then in the beta — that should take up my playing time rather well

Actually I am playing more Star Wars the Old Republic — why? — because it is Star Wars and EQ 2 is Everquest (at least the one I got hooked on ) …. loyalty to the name…. and SWtOR isn’t long for this world —
I’d like to say I saw it from beta to sunset — which I’d at least like to say in some small way for EQ 2 also one day (although I did not see the beta)

I think you’re the only person in the world who enjoys SWTOR post 5.0 update.

I go there for the STORY — which is still good — fairly good — otherwise, I am F2P there too

now if EQ2 had a bit of a story, I might get into it again —
like I said, it’s Star Wars — hard to give up on SW, at least till another one comes out, that was as good as SWtOR was at launch ( class stories were incredible and very fun )
            — same with EQ

I have fun playing TLE. My friends have fun playing TLE. If you “absolutely hate” the game yet stay anyway, that’s a shame.

So are there any rumours of a new MMORPG from DBG? After all it seems to me that Holly Longdale is managing something beyond EQ/EQ2.

Another TLE?? What is the point as stated above, sure the nostalgia is a boom once or twice around and then after that ZzzZzz… I played the pvp time lock last year, it was embarrassing how it died in the KoS expansion. /who each factions zone and you’d be lucky to find 1-2 players in the entire zone. Population massively dead. Now on a positive note launch was super fun and active and full of action, however it gradually died. Not sure why you don’t release a pvp version of fallen Gate. If your looking for a cash grab “which you obviously are” might as well draw us in with some old Antonica pvp or something. I for one refuse to do the same washed up raids for the 20th time, 15 years later. I’ll be on Black Desert Online thanks.. Unfortunately I’d much rather be playing Eq2 Pvp…
