Vendor Price Glitch Abuse Yields Bans, Inflates Krono Prices

If you notice a few guildmates, recently flush with in-game currency, suddenly absent from EQ2 over the next few days/weeks, now you know why. It seems that there was an item which could be purchased for 1 copper from one vendor that could then be sold back to another vendor for upwards of 10 platinum pieces each.

Some players prudently ceased once they discovered the issue. However others systematically abused this glitch, upsetting the in-game economy in the process. Krono prices jumped 200% on some servers. Time will tell if these players are stripped of their ill-gotten plat and/or allowed back into the game.

And here I thought it was the fact that the plat bags were providing 500p instead of 75p. Silly me.

I knew there was no way that people were coming by that much plat honestly.

The reason for seeing krono jacked so high is the old buy-low sell-high. Player’s buy low on one server and sell higher on another. A krono is account based and thus can be traded within the account across servers. If funds start getting low on one server, these players just get someone to gift them a character transfer token in exchange for some plat. Many of these players took advantage of the server mergers to consolidate accounts and transfer funds (via free transfer tokens) across the new servers; this was where the real spike occurred.

Have you ever wondered how some players have 10+ tokens? Do you think they spent real life money for that many just to put on the broker? Sadly, the influx of new tokens into the game is not enough to drive the prices down, so we’ll just keep seeing kronos increasing in price as we go forward.

I know DBG has the game on a shoe string budget, but if they don’t hire someone soon who can monitor the economy like many other games do there’s going to be no value in plat left. This reminds me of gold in Diablo2 it’s getting so bad.

They need to hire Dr. Eyjólfur Guðmundsson, from EvE-Online.

He knows how to handle an MMO economy. =)

It doesn’t really take a person to monitor the economy. They can see how much plat is in circulation in the game. If it’s rising, falling, or going crazy overnight. It’d imagine the widespread exploiting by many people would throw an alarm or two. SLR prices rising from a couple K for good stuff to people bidding in 10’s to 100’s of thousands. That’s NOT just server consolidation. That’s bot plat farmers and/or exploiters introducing those crazy amounts of plat. I often wonder if the nutty inflation was just some people laundering the plat just in case they were ever caught. 😉 I’m going back to my tin hat…laters.

Both the TLE severs are being abused by botters and daybreak taking no action against them. Seems odd they would punish players like this while letting botters rake in plat.

      Quote from forums

      ————————

Where it is botting/boxing doesnt really matter, it is very clear that a professional framing operation is currently taking place on both the TLE.
      The evidence is quite clear.
      1. Both servers have a 6 man group that has pve kills way above the norm when compared to the rest of the server population.
      2. It is almost the exact same group set up on both severs achieving these kills. 3 nercos, tank, fury illy/troub.
      3. Both severs have all members in a guild of which it has only letters with random spaces between these letters.
      4. All the names of the members of these guilds look to be randomly generated, apart from maybe the tank which has the same first 3 letters on both servers.
      5. No one in either of these guilds have ever crafted anything, ever!
      6. Almost all of the spells of every member in the guilds is still apprentice.
      I could go on….
Whether they are using the TLE servers to farm plat to sell on these severs or are using it to buy kronos on the TLE to resell on other servers who can say.
I suspect the reason the PVE server seems to be used more as the preferred botting/boxing location is the fact the gear they using is not great and therefore would be easy kills on the PVP server.

It is heartening to see that people can still be held accountable for their conduct these days. Sometimes, but when it happens, I find that stuff hilarious.

Logs are kept and the amount of platinum they obtained and the items they bought with that platinum should be remove. Banning people for abusing code that any MMO developer puts into the game is something I’ve always highly disagreed with.

very similar thing happened over in SWtOR — twice —
they did the same thing ( we don’t have a “Drunder ” though) —
but if you get caught doing something wrong in any game … there are repercusions …… plain and simple ( gee whiz, you have ways of getting plat honestly, like using loyalty points — wish SWtOR had something like that )
