Server Merge Update: Guild Names Lost to Long-Inactive Groups

Months ago when the upcoming Server Consolidation was announced, we were given extensive documentation about how Guild Names would be preserved for the most active guilds. Then it was announced that a more traditional Server Merge process would be used instead. Now we’ve seen the result of this choice as countless active, large guilds from Butcherblock, Oasis, and Crushbone have forsaken their names for abandoned guilds inactive for up to half a decade. Players who have petitioned this issue have been informed that Customer Support cannot address this issue and instead players must raise the issue on the EQ2 Forums.

Everything else regarding the Server Merge has been visibly successful and we don’t want to forget that, but the guild name issue is quite distressing to players who are part of an active guild. Hopefully an amicable resolution can be found.

    It’s unacceptable.

Shouldn’t be an issue for me and mine, but.

UPDATE: Oh bloody hell, there is a Spellbound on both Nagafen and Freeport, both apparently long dead!

Q: How will we be able to retain names if others have the same name?

A: In the event of duplicate character names during the consolidation, priority will be given to the character who has logged in to the game within the past sixty (60) days. If multiple characters have logged in within the past sixty (60) days, then the character which was created first will retain their name.

Same for guilds. They don’t pay attention to how many accounts/active accounts have each guild so… ZZZZZZZzzz 🙄

Fatality on Crushbone got it’s name back pretty quick while others are still fighting the good fight.

Fatality was griefed by someone who bought an older guild and renamed it Fatality the day before the merger.

That guild would then have more activity in game that most of the dead guilds retaining names over active guilds.

It’s just terrible treatment of paying customers. I understand if a small guild had the name first. Even if 2 people were playing now and then, I’d get it. But inactive guild, inactive players for years getting the name over long term established, very large guilds filled with paying accounts?

This is kind of customer service disaster they make examples of in the “what not to do” case studies. In what planet do you award 3 people that haven’t paid for your service in 5 years over hundreds of loyal paying customers?

Thank you for spreading the (bad) news also on your site, Feldon!
Some of us, whose guild name was -ZZZed, will keep on fighting to get rid of the unwanted suffixes in petitions and on the official forum in a civilized and respectful way. We all know that hope dies last..
