I know you all think this is great fun, but this is why SOE was and continues to be a failure. The ship is sinking and the first priority while in the lifeboat is duck mounts.

Actually, it’s probably been on the list long before bugs in the last couple of expansions. (Anybody have real info on that assertion?) Oh, I don’t know, but when I saw an adjustment for Tarby in update notes a couple years ago, I absolutely stopped trying to figure out the priorities — and got a kick out of it.
Besides, if they go on the Marketplace, they’ll sell. That’s revenue.

Keep in mind, the development of a new mount lies mainly with the artists (artist, singular?). The problems you cite causing the “sinking ship” are development and programming problems.
The only real delay the duck mount might have caused is a delay in the graphics schedule for Whatever Comes Next After AoM. And as 7rlsy points out, this was probably on their timetable even before the layoffs.

They’ve always pushed out new marketplace mounts. This isn’t something new.
The big difference this time, though, is that they’re working on one that was requested and then sparked a 100+ page forum thread of jokes. So of course they’re going to hype this one more.

IMO originally saying no to this was SOE continuing to be a failure. There was a forum thread with 100 pages of players and devs laughing and joking and coming together and instead of adding a duck mount (something which Tobey probably already had a working mock up of in his spare time as he strikes me as that kind of person), they outright killed it.
In a game where we have flying salamanders, reindeers, jumping squirrels and who knows what else, a duck mount really doesn’t stretch anything.
Sure, there are other things that need to be prioritised at the moment – the servers feel like they’re falling apart but they’ve said that’s a high priority and it seems they already have the new database server on test, that’s a huge step in the right direction and something I didn’t expect to happen so soon.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want SOE/DBG to cater to the whim of every player and the duck mount is whimsical; but they really need someone higher up that understands the player-base when making these decisions and it really seems like they don’t.

Hmmm… SOE making a mount that was requested by 50 pages worth of players on the forums… is the straw that’s going to break the camels back… Maybe you should try War of the Roses. No silly fantasy stuff there.
Meanwhile, those of us with a sense of fun will be chugging right along with this light hearted addition to a FANTASY game. ^_^

Well, considering how overloaded the devs are on the coding side, the artists and animators are bringing in a mount that was requested by players… I honestly think this is exactly what they needed to do. Amidst all the bad news lately, they are showing a little love where they can.
XD and yet, so many people busted into Facebook and other locations just to gripe and groan about things the animators and artists probably can’t do a thing about… I wish those who think that would either pull their heads out of their asses, or shove them far enough in we can’t hear them any more. :\

How pointless is arguing about EQ/EQ2’s animator and character artist working a few days on a duck mount which has nothing to do with creating new zones, new mechanics, new spells, etc.?
