Official Daybreak Company Update — Layoffs

Written by Feldon on . Posted in EQ2

From Dexella on the DBG Forums:

Dear Players, Partners & Friends,

Last week we announced that we were acquired and are now operating independently as
Daybreak Game Company. To better position our newly independent studio for future growth
opportunities and to deliver on our legacy of making top online games, we have had to make
some tough choices including realignment of resources.

Unfortunately, this realignment means adjusting staffing as well. We announced today that we
will eliminate positions in our San Diego and Austin studios. We deeply value our employees
and never take these decisions lightly so we’ve done our best to do what’s right for the people
affected. Although extremely difficult, these are necessary actions that will ultimately drive
improved results and help strengthen our company’s foundation for success. Many of us are
saying goodbye to close friends and colleagues who we’ve worked with over the years, and we
are grateful for the memories and all that they’ve contributed. They will be greatly missed, and
we wish them nothing but the best for the future.

These reductions will not affect the operation of our current games and as mentioned above, will
help better position our company for future success. As we move forward, we are committed to
delivering the best online games and working side-by-side with our players to drive the future of
our online games.

Thank you for your continued support,
The Daybreak Games Team

Can’t help thinking $$$$$$$ being saved are now going to go into the production of crap on consoles. Very sad day indeed.

No, the cash is being diverted to the investors. Standard operating procedure for “investment” companies.

Thats always likely to be the case with an investment company anyway.

It’s a question of how they go about doing that and what they do with their current resources. Looks like they’re letting much of them go.

Couple that with the statement the other week after the buyout making very distinct reference to ‘multi-platform’ gaming and things look ominous for the entire former SOE PC MMO portfolio.

Signed by “The Daybreak Games Team”? How about they put some names on it? Who exactly is speaking? Hiding behind that name, methinks.

This is the last time I back a pre-alpha title. I’m getting real sick and tired of companies pulling this crap. I backed Landmark for $100. We haven’t even gotten to EQ Next… :-/

Next was always going to be a separate purchase.

Maybe they don t want to say “we just kick a bad team“, just check what happen to eq2 after DOV (CoE, ToV, AoM) the game is just crap, they just do a copy paste from the older content 3 xpack = 120 dollars its the price a 3 new game and you can feel it on the server population(2 server are ok) the other one are empty and a lot of friend stop playing for the same thing.
Now EQ2 its farming farming dungeon for increase your gear, and the role play its talking shit in your housing.
RPG is not that, just an exemple of what is Role play gaming, with the old eq2 for example protector you need a priest for resurect a npc for fight the monster, in nuroga you need a druid for the last named or if you don t have druid there a strat….
Now why choose a class? for what? cause we go in the dungeon and just fight everything move on (like stupid Hooligan) eq2 is just an hack and slash now not a rpg and i hope daybreack will change this and go back to the original game play, to the real spirit of the rpg or maybe just set up an hardcore server for eq2 for the older player.
Just a few idea for example, the tank is always the leader of the group always the first why? its not the rogue job? check for a trap cause if the tank lead the group and walk on the trap all the group died….
An other example a big block of ice lock a cavern entrance, we need a wizard with a fire spell or a tinkerer can craft a gnome bomb for move that ice block or do an acces quest if we are not able to find a wiz or a crafter, need a tank for push or use something very weight
Faction, people like loot nice gear, for example why dont create a simple dungeon like a castle with guard and a lord (for example good alignement) and if the good player kill to much the guard and the lord inside this castle, they will be enemi of queynos, and cant enter queynos(or attacked by the guard) after too much farming(same thing for freeport).
Same thing for greater faydark, set up a big tree epic x4 with nice loot, but maybe after 5 kill result on a ban from kelethin…..(and maybe add event like good alignement can go help that tree by right click assist and the tree move to challenge mod) and buff the tree and if the tree wipe the bad group the helper earn an adornement or somethig like this or a piece of magic wood for craft) and like this maybe create an indirect PvP?(can be cool imagine 2 rival guild… 1 good alignement guild protect the tree, and the bad alignement try to kill it and maybe create a guild achievement for that with nice reward (like protect 10 times the tree or kill it 10 times)
EQ2 is a great game, lot of class and a lot of different race and a huge world is the most original bakround maybe its time to really work that game for the game and not for the money.
Just look, 5 years of money work what happened to the game ? deserted (if there no player= no money)
take example on the elders scroll series(not mmo) they take a lot of good thing from the everquest series, and its like actual eq2 team take exemple on WoW money kill all the good thing its sad…..
