    Interesting anti camping solution.

I have limited play time so making it so I can get ~1 named a weekday and maybe ~2 on a weekend day is making me wary of this change.

Hopefully it actually helps–many servers have had problems with folks afk-camping the overland names. This should give you a better shot at them, if you’ve run into that where you are.

It can only help if most named are killed by people camping them. However, what if in reality most named are killed by a) people circling zones looking for the named for the quest, or b) people who are questing, running around etc and happen to come upon a named and kill it. If that’s what accounts for the vast majority of named kills then this change not only won’t help, it will make it more difficult to complete the quest because you have to rule out any named you’ve killed within the last two hours. As I said in my comment downthread, I just, a few minutes ago, circled both zones on an alt for the quests and didn’t find any named up at all. In a situation like that, the truth is that camping a single named for a couple of kill updates is just easier than non-stop circling of the zone.

I misread this, it’s not as bad as I thought.. i read it as you can only get ANY named once every 2 hours.. it’s just the same named is limited every 2 hours. That I can work with.

It seems like a very strange solution. I would have just done one of these:
      * Spawn the names non-agro
      * Spawn the names at epic x 2 and then despawn after 10 seconds and respawn as normal
      * Spawn the names with an AoE that kills everything within 15m.

Names on the weekly should be an x2. Period. That would also ‘fix’ the complaint about no x2 zones. Or make it an x2 public quest name.

A weekly quest should be challenging. Flying around to find a specific beastie is not challenging, it’s tedious make work.

All people are going to do is have their 15th alt out there and just rotate them.

Its a decent deal for Nagafen. Names drop PVP tokens.. randomly. Spreads the wealth … maybe

I think they should make it 6 hours. lol.or even a day. 🙂

Basically a good idea. But considering that the respawn timer is between 30 and 45 mins anyway, 2 hrs is too short. 6 or 12 hrs would be better.

But tweaking THAT setting should be easy enough when the mechanics are already in 🙂

I thought the nameds in TS/PS should pop as x4 raid mobs, then get weaker every minute. Watch those mercs turn to dust, lol.

Feldon, the epic and aoe ones seem even stranger.

Honestly the change was needed but maybe some changes needs, such as upping rates of malice gem drops or having ways to force spawn them

Welcome Back Feldon! Hope your holidays went well 🙂

What would be fun is if anyone who attacked an overland named was instantly flagged for pvp as if they were carnage flagged. I would camp these lil pricks all day!

It’s a weak fix to the names. Hopefully it works to lessen the frustrations of trying to get the weekly done in each zone. .

“Players who kill a named NPC in either Tranquil Sea or Phantom Sea will no longer be able to see or kill the same named for 2 hours.”

As someone who does the weekly quest for those on at least one alt per day, I often find it easier to camp one of those named for at least two kills rather than constantly circle the zone, finding none up. This change makes me extremely unhappy. Why don’t they, say, put some more named in each zone? You couldn’t spit in an RoK zone without hitting a named; I was finding named I’d never seen before in RoK for years after that I’d never seen before.

I just circled both zones’ named spots on my alt of the day and not a single one was up, Wow, you really fixed this problem, SOE!

Here, let me re-write this for you…

        POPULATION / ZONE PROGRESSION
        Tranquil / Phantom Seas

In Tranquil Seas or Phantom Seas, a named NPC will be spawned for Kauko, or any alt that they happen to be playing, if one is not up when they fly past the spawn point.

        Is that better?

The point of the update was presumably to make it easier for people doing the weekly quests to complete them. So far based on circling the spawn points several times today to do the quests I have consistently failed to see any named up, which suggests the update hasn’t had any positive effect. For my take on why I think that is, see my other comments. If you have anything specific and rational to add to any comments I have made in this thread, then do so; otherwise your sarcasm is not appreciated and adds nothing to the conversation.

I had a response all typed up and ready to go and then I saw this right below it:

“Please post your comments without flaming or insulting other players or personally attacking SOE employees.”

With that in mind I’ll just say these two things:

            1. The world doesn’t revolve around any of us. Just because something doesn’t work the way we want it to doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

            2. I’ve met most of the developers over the years at Fan Faire/SOE Live. I’m pretty sure none of them sit at their desks and try to figure out ways to screw the game up for the players (although it may seem that way to some people sometimes). They may not always get things perfect, but at least they’re trying. You might want to cut them some slack.

Given I saw no one AFK camping, the change did what it was intended to do.

As Stringer said an “Interesting anti camping solution”

However does it increase the fun playing the game? Or is it just a band-aid that actually increases frustration without solving the problem?

A better solution would have been to develop new weekly overland quests that did not require camping the names and to attach the gem drops to that quest and not to the names.

the best solution would have been non agro mob, that way you got to be on it.

Bots don’t need aggro spawns. X2 mobs will be expected to drop better loot so RAIDER bot groups will camp them. The point that people can alt rotate is fair enough.

Now they have this mechanic in they could easily increase the lockout to 18 hours and make the named mobs spawn every 5 minutes… which sorta makes them uncontested. You’d be able to do the weekly in a day though.

Come on guys, this is a weekly and EVERYBODY can finish it in 1 hour and a half. You just have to camp 3 different nameds till they pop and move to the next. It is easy enough already to finish it even on AB / Freeport let alone on the less populated servers.
Stop making things more and more easy. weekly is already very easy to compleet.

ps you can do the birds quest on the first Island every couple of hours witch will give you in a day more tokens as the weekly …

I guess I have a different take. Let the players manage camping and abuses of camping among themselves. It worked in EQ1. However, to be fair, Mercs and Mob locking in EQ2 create a different set of issues.
