EQ2Wire Post-Altar of Malice Launch Weekend Report

Written by Feldon on . Posted in EQ2, Expansion News

All Access subscribers who purchased the All Access expansion have been chugging along working on quests, zones, and more since late Tuesday, and so far there haven’t been too many show-stopping bugs, however a few always creep in and we are collecting them here.

Inside:

  • Bugged Kithicor
  • Allu’thoa Menace
  • Far Seas Faction Merchants
  • AoM Heroic Loot Missing
  • Localization text
  • Brokenskull Bay Contested
  • High Keep Contested XP
  • Shattered Seas: Temple of Doom
  • Castle Highhold

Bugged Kithicor

There are two bugged quests in Kithicor, not required by the Altar of Malice signature quest, which otherwise prevent progress in it. “Sustaining Souls of Bloody Kithicor” and a request to place blessed salt to the souls of slain Teir’Dal by the quest “Momentary Peace for Bloody Kithicor“. The workaround for these seems to be to cancel or re-apply the Belt Illusion associated with the questline.

Allu’thoa Menace

We’re not sure how serious this is, but there seems to be a detriment that does not cancel when the related mob is killed. Extemper indicates that a fix is coming soon.

Far Seas Faction Merchants

Koros Splinterlimb, Far Seas Trading Company faction merchant normally located in the Isle of Mara, has been despawned due to a coin dupe issue. Koros will return on Tuesday. Shazra also seems to be missing, possibly for the same reason.

AoM Heroic Loot Missing?

Not all AoM Heroic missions are dropping loot crates. From Kander on the EQ2 Forums:

Some of the missions are are having an issue with the reward crates. We are aware of this and have a fix coming as soon as possible.Fix should be in Tuesday and mission crates will drop heroic armor and such.

and:

We’re going to tone it down and try to make it more fun, less challenging, so 95s can definitely enjoy it.. Expect changes Tuesday.

Localization Text

Since the launch of Altar of Malice, you’ve undoubtedly noticed in-game Mercenaries with name prefixes like “:84b3af92e590_1:“. These codes are used for international versions of EQ2 in French, German, Russian, and Japanese. This also affected Census-powered sites like EQ2U and Dragon’s Armory as all item names, recipes, and house/zone names are exporting with these codes. This issue should be resolved Tuesday.

Brokenskull Bay Contested Over-tuned for 95, under-awarding XP?

This post from Kander is encouraging:

The Brokenskull Bay contested is intended for all levels between 95 and 100. If people are unable to run this at 95 then we need to look at it, Which we will do ASAP. Also we probably need to increase the XP a bit in this zone, which we will also look at today.

The Brokenskull Bay contested should absolutely be do-able at 95, if it isn’t, we will fix it.

High Keep Contested XP?

With the expansion, the XP from zones like The Hole, Skyshrine, and High Keep Contested were put on a diminishing returns curve so that if you are over level 95, these zones grant as little as 1/10th of their normal XP. This is all in the interest of steering players towards the current zones. Never mind that Dungeon Maker grind zones still award enough XP that a players can reach level 100 in as little as an hour.

The overall point can be debated, but a very specific question was raised on the forums — why is High Keep Contested roped into this change? It’s still relevant content and still presents a challenge. Kander seems to have considered the point worth investigating and so will be looking at the XP curve for the zone.

Shattered Seas: Temple of Doom

This zone is tricky as you must do it with just 6 granted abilities on your hotbar. Fyreflyte has confirmed that there are bugs with the zone, but players have found a number of workarounds and strategies to beat the zone anyway.

How do I get into Castle Highhold?

You’d think that you would just fly into the castle (as you can) and land and automagically zone, or knock on the front door, but actually, you have to fly down the cliff face and find a sewer pipe and click on the tiny drain pipe cap on top of it. Thanks to Osgz for this screenshot:

What about the reported Trade skill EXP equipment not granting extra EXP? (Is it a problem that Rush Writs for 96-100 grant only 3% exp each, very slow grind? Adventurers advancing rapidly to 100, Tradeskillers, much less so.)

    since the expansion came out:

research assistants have hexadecimal code inserted into their names

Kylong Plains is in the wrong position on the world bell zone map.

The Kylong Plains thing only appears to be in the Guild Hall bell. Others I have checked it is correct.

      Also:

Guild Gathers/harvesters no longer have the split menu to choose level of materials to collect.

Guild Gathers never had the split menu, that change was not applies to them. Although it might be nice for it to be consistent. Personally I would prefer the menu for all of them to show the top three tiers and an option for lower tiers, which then breaks down to the rest.

Temple of Doom is messed up good. I don’t even get the new hotbar with abilities, and none of the other work arounds have worked for me. I only going to say this once, if SOE were smart the would put in the right amount of xp, as it sits. I got to 98 doing all the quest that I could that were not bugged, still cant get paste temple of doom. Then I had to run DM vox to get to 100. It boggles the mind that they don’t give you enough xp to get to 100 doing the quest lines then nerf the devil out of other zones you could have run to make up the difference. Don’t even get me started on tradeskill and the crazy amount of xp needed to level there. All in all there is some fun quest but leveling is a problem, and to be quite honest not fun. SOE do you hear the “NOT FUN” part of what I said. The game is supposed to be fun not a job. Sorry but that is my rant.

I had an issue yesterday. I was not able to adorn the new endurance adorns with 75 stamina. I haven’t been on today to check to see if it’s been fixed. Just letting ya know.

The only thing that really affects me right now is that they removed the mount reward from the Tradeskill achievement for completing all the new quests. They didn’t even mention it or acknowledge it on the forums. If it was just a leftover from the Beta they forgot to remove, I could understand it, but you’d think they’d at least put it in the patch notes!

What? The achievement mount reward was only for beta.

I have not completed the tradeskill quests on live yet -so not sure what they are showing -but you shouldn’t get a mount on live for finishing the quests.

I know, the problem was that it was showing it as a reward on live.

I had trouble in Doom when I first pulled, by the third pull I’d figured it out. It wasn’t really that hard.

Chrol posted this on the forums today:

The Shissar will be much more manageable for all classes, hopefully with the next hotfix.

Note the “for all classes” part. I suspect that what you figured out + what class you were playing had a part in it not being that hard.

Tried it again tonight. Mob to the right side was doing 100k damage to me every second. Heals just didn’t keep up. I swapped in the new higher mit quest gear and ran figure 8s around the zone kiting the mob and finally got it down. Quest complete. Royal PITA. 🙂

My first crafter did the crafting questline and finished at level 96.8. Then I did the grind to 100. Another crafter, with 20% vet bonus showing on the xp bar, did the grind and finished at the same 96.8

The +20% veteran bonus applies to XP gained from crafting items, not from quest completion. The XP gained from the crafting quest line is almost completely contained in quest credits, not in item builds, so this is perfectly normal.

The entire crafting quest line has you craft about 28 items altogether. Quick-and-dirty math gives me a figure of +840 XP from the 20% bonus, out of about 250k crafting XP per level, or roughly 0.3%. (150 XP per build +20% = 30 XP, times 28 builds = 840 XP total. Actually less because you’ll lose a bit from making lv95 builds at lv96 by the end of the quest.)

The veteran bonus will help a bit as you level your other crafters 96.8 to 100.

Anyone know where the quest: “Coin in Remembrance/Corrupting the Blessed” is located? I finished questline but can’t buy shoulders.

The workaround for these seems to be to cancel or re-apply the Belt Illusion associated with the questline.

There is no Belt anymore, to recast 😉
