What Brings People to SOE Live?

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Daybreak Live (SOE Live/Fan Faire)

SOE Community Management lead Linda “Brasse” Carlson posted on Twitter last night to advise players that SOE Live platinum registrations are nearly full:

Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics

Since SOE publishes an opt-in list of SOE Live Attendees, and since data crunching is sorta our thing, we took a look at the numbers to see what game people are most interested in visiting SOE Live for this year. First up, the Primary Game choices. Out of 1,048 entries, 15 opted out of choosing a Primary game. The remaining 1,033 chose:

When prompted for a Secondary game choice, only 704 players selected one…

Other Choices

During registration, players were given a blank field where they could specify any game they wanted. Most mirrored their Primary game selection as indicated above (2 players put in Dragon’s Prophet and then didn’t specify it as either their Primary or Secondary, 1 player did the same for EverQuest II). There are a few players hanging onto games which weren’t in the choices:

2 – Star Wars Galaxies
6 – Planetside

and a few who are looking to the future, even though the choice wasn’t offered in the menus:

44 – EverQuest Next

Somebody chose vanguard? You know that next month that game is being sunset? H1Z1, hey if I want zombie there left for dead and dead II.
Looks like a lot of folks want landmark. Oh well I just found it funny they are talking about a game at soe live that is being sunset in a month.

    Nice article.

Although I’m not able to go this year I made the trip the previous two year’s, from what I saw there I would have guessed at PS2 being the most popular base on the time it was given by SOE…

And from my experience talking to other fans I would have guessed EQ2 was more popular than EQ1, I’m wrong there too then 🙂

It does show just how important the Everquest franchise is to SOE’s success, looking forward to seeing if their show focus has changed at the next SOE live I visit in 2015 🙂

Those graphs may have been easier to read with the same legend, and without selecting multiple hues of green and purple.

They have put Everquest 1 & 2 secondary to EQNext for dev time. Maybe they need to pay attention to all of their Everquest franchise because that is what makes them money instead of messing with all this other junk they try to do that doesnt have the name Everquest on it.

Don’t worry, I have played landmark and for every person that joins, another one leaves. They definitely can’t afford to take their eq1 and eq2 players for granted.

A large amount of EQ2 Housing Die hards , signed up under Landmark this year . We also don’t know what the close to 800 or so people who didn’t opt in for name to be shown, registered under. Plus I know of a few who register under a different game that they play each year to have a different char name or game on badge.
