Producer’s Letter: ToV Coming Up!

From the EQ2 Forums:

Hello again, Norrathians!

We are all getting ready to usher in our next expansion, EverQuest II: Tears of Veeshan (ToV)…and not a moment too soon! Open Beta is being prepared now for Oct. 15 and launch is coming on Nov. 12!

In ToV, our next epic chapter unfolds! Kerafyrm, the great, evil prismatic dragon, has stolen a powerful artifact known as the Tear of Veeshan and slain Yelinak – Norrath’s wisest and eldest dragon. The New Combine Army that united Norrath’s peoples is fractured and powerless and it is said that Kerafyrm’s plots now reach far beyond Norrath. In fact, his plans are rumored to reach beyond time and space to all existence! You and your allies will be all that stands in his way.

The story begins in our overland, Vesspyr: The Eternal Broodlands, as you reunite with Yelinak who will unravel a story of horrors that will lead you down a path to thwarting Kerafyrm’s dark intentions.

Vesspyr is a the location in Ethernere – the Norrathian afterlife — where all dragons pass when they die. There will be several well-known and interesting dragons found here in addition to Yelinak, including Harla Dar, Darathar, and Lord Vymm. Vesspyr connects to 9 dungeons with a variety of advanced solo, heroic, and raid instances with Shissar, Bixie, High Keep, Nexus, and Temple of Veeshan themes. There’s a lot of quests and missions too that will reveal the local storylines in each dungeon. Our designers will start digging into these themes with you really soon in some articles online.

Let’s not forget the arrival of the new Channeler class with the expansion as well as lots of new items created with our new Itemization plan. The design team added some items on Oct. 1 in the Djinn Master and Pirate Kings dungeons that give you a sneak peek into the plan that’s coming (more on that here: https://www.everquest2.com/news/everquestii-items-djinn-master-tov). As we head into Beta, the team will likely post the bulk of the Itemization plan online for your reference.

ToV will introduce new Dragon-themed AAs for each archetype, as well as raise the AA cap to 340. Crafters will get new recipes, including tradeskill apprentice recipes, as well as a new tradeskill quest line! And as part of our content update available to everyone, we’re adding Mercenary slots and the Tier 4 Guild Hall too!

There’s details to come, but we wanted to introduce the expansion now and invite you to join us for Beta on Oct. 15! More news and details on the ToV features will be coming soon!

P.S. Don’t forget Nights of the Dead creeping up on Oct. 15 too!

Sincerely, always,

Holly Longdale
Sr. Producer
EverQuest II

Looking at the slides from SOE Live, the Dragon AA tab will hold 50 AA, but they’re only increasing the limit by 20 AA. I wonder which tree most players won’t bother filling up (I guess the class tree).

Any idea how large the T4 Guild Hall will be? I think it would have to be the size of Qeynos to be any better than the Antonica island.

most ppl will probably take some from each the Subclass, Class and Shadow Trees for the extra. they are also letting you get a 2nd and 3rd Heroic Tree Endline for 20 AA and 30aa for the 2nd the 3rd end lines. the T4’s are supposed to be the T3’s with a bit more in the Basement… i think. there may also up the item limit, not sure.

So, in order to get all 3 Heroic Endlines, I have to spend 2 AA on the first, 20 AA on the second, and 30 AA on the third. That’s 52 AA spent on 3 abilities. When most abilities need only 5 AA to max out, that’s a lot of missed opportunities. I may do this on my paladin to get Zealous Smite and Soulclaim, but that’s a lot of options I’d miss out on.

Maybe they’ll sell something later that increases the AA cap like when AoD came out.
There’s a picture of the new t4 guild halls in the forums.

It’s all indoors. :\ No fly zone. >.< Hopefully there won't be any thing that only tier 4 halls can have that really makes t3 GHs inconvenient by comparison. I love being able to build things in a zone i can fly in. XD

“…..we’re adding Mercenary slots” anyone know what that means?

      Found it:
“Mercenary Slots — You will now be able to store a Merc and swap them out without having to go back to your home city or (in the case of rare/elite mercs, re-find them in the world). This got huge applauses. By the way, EverQuest is getting Merc powerups of some kind. Wonder if we’ll see that in EQ2.” Feldon had the info all the time, I missed that from SOE Live, I was focused on EQ Next.

I believe that is so you can have more than one mercenary available to you at a time. However, you can only 1 summoned at any given time.

So If I am soloing with my tank merc, then later on I group with my Guardian friend, I can just put my tank merc away and summon my dps merc.

You can currently do this (up to six slots, I think) in EQ; however, you have to purchase each slot for $10 [1000 SC] a pop***. Is there any indication if the EQ2 version will be free or follow a similar pattern?

***The $10 fee is an account-wide unlock for the EQ account for all toon/server combinations.

While I would like the slots to be free – I’m ok with having to pay for it since it appears to be account wide permanent thing – not something I’ll have to keep buying over and over.

But if it is paid – it appears this is the wave of the future with this game. Not sure how I feel about buying features piece meal. If I’m not paying a subscription fee – it’s probably ok.

Dragon AA’s – require only 1 AA to unlock descending ability, however, 30 AA must be spent in one column to unlock endline.
