EverQuest II — Behind the Scenes: Bringing back the Meat Beast!!

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Art, Appearance, Housing, Daybreak Cash

Oh. My. God.

When Beastlords were added to EQ2, the first thing an alarming number of people wanted to tame was Bristlebane‘s very own Bovinasauros Rex or the Meatbeast! Inexplicably, a month later the Meatbeast was taken away and there were rumblings that not all on the EQ2 team were quite so excited about the idea of players running rampant with them. We thought that was the end of it, but the Walter Bishopesque love for the Meatbeast in the EQ2 community just wouldn’t die! After a year of players clamoring, the Meatbeast was once again available to Beastlords and all was once again right with Norrath. We celebrated, smiled, and moved on. But not the insane evil genius EQ2, Senior Animator Tom Tobey and his cohort Christopher Atkins, Character Artist.

Just in time for the April Foolishness of Bristlebane Day, they have given us a full quart’s worth of hilarity. I could describe it, but you’re better off just watching the funniest video SOE has ever released. If you don’t die laughing, then I don’t know what to say…

Today, Meatbeast baby pets in five different colors are available for your house, and more importantly, you can now get a Meatbeast mount either a Cow or Bull for 1,950SC. I’m logging in right now!

P.S. for ONE DAY ONLY (April 1st) if you really must, you can get a pink Meatbeast mount.

Yes players want these I suppose so they give them to us.

I actually believe that there really shouldn’t be any mounts in the game that aren’t creatures found in the wild of the game. But I can see I am in the minority/ and I won’t fight against it. I just think it makes the game look more and more ridiculous to new players. Players with wings etc with no lore that explains them. Must be hard to be a RP player anymore these days. Just seems the ridiculous meter keeps moving up. Anyhow just an opinion I can see I am on the losing side of this 🙂

The Meatbeast has been part of EQ2 since Desert of Flames. It’s an “in-the-wild” creature found in the Shimmering Citadel.

I agree with you about wings though.

I love it. I’m not a fan of meatbeasts, but the video was hilarious, and, well, they’re ridiculously cute 🙂

You can also pick up a bovoch mother house pet from the enormous prizes in the bounce and snack snatcher games! http://eq2.zam.com/wiki/eq2_item:Bovoch_Matriarch 😀

I still have the bovoch meat that dropped from my first Meatbeast kill. It was such an awesomely funny mob to discover. I did end up buying one of the mounts, though I’m a bit sad it isn’t a leaper.. it looks like it would have been perfect for one.

I thought the same thing about the leaping part, Cyliena. Though I’m happy that it has featherfall so I can glide down to safety.

There’s also the Meatbeast named in the Vigilant instance, in the galley freezer.

Meatbeast mounts aside that was friggin funny…now why cant more of the dev staff do something like that to showoff upcoming changes and additions to the game…currently most vids they put together are well boring and bit stiff.

Ah you’re right Feldon. I forgot about that Shimmering Citadel beastie. And I do think it’s cool that the devs are listening to what people want and giving it to them. Can’t complain about that or the video it was entertaining.

Guess I’m just an old guy who thinks they’re silly.

I’d type more but I gotta kick some kids off my lawn. 🙂

This little beauty can be yours for the low, low price of 5,000 SC. Yep. $50.00 if you bought it with no discounts. $25.00 if you took advantage of the double SC this past weekend, $16 and change if you had triple SC.
