First Animated Player Studio Item comes to EQ2

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Daybreak Cash, Player Studio

Since the launch of the Player Studio program, EQ2 players exercising their hobby (or career) as gifted artists and 3D designers have deluged the EQ2 team with Cloak and House Item submissions. What was originally intended as a “maybe 4-5 items a month” thing has turned into a very popular program as these not-so-amateur designers continue to impress the EQ2 team with their creativity and attention to detail.

Perhaps no better evidence of this is today’s introduction of the first animated Player Studio item. Although Player Studio has not released any instructions on how to animate items, a player’s submission of a Tinkered house item must have caught the attention of the EQ2 team because they have added several right-click animations to it and even produced a video showing these animations.

Today’s Player Studio haul includes visually intense cloaks, a throne that would look right at home in a Freeport cellar, and the aforementioned Tinkered wagon. We can’t wait to see the Weapons and player Hair Styles people come up with when those categories are added to the Player Studio program.

From the EQ2 Forums:

These Marketplace items have all been designed by artists in Player Studio! Tim MathewsVandrago, and Cambrian Man created this week’s items.

The items created by Tim Mathews should appeal to those with a darker view of the world. These dramatic pieces are designed with the most evil Norrathians in mind.

Vandrago has designed three luxurious cloaks that would complement the armor of any brave, seasoned adventurer!

Finally, Cambrian Man creates for the gnomes and the gnomishly-inclined with this lively new house item!

Pretty impressed with what the players have produced so far and the speed at which the new items are coming. Wonder if a real dungeon maker (not just a dungeon decorating thing) is a possibility at some point.

Any mount added to EQ2 must have attachment points for 60 different race/gender/soga models.

Any mount must also have over a dozen animation loops.

Even if they gave us all the tools, it would take an incredible time commitment for 1 mount.

I’ed like players to be able to skin current mount models if nothing else. I haven’t seen a skin I really like for any of the current mounts.

i was hoping this would be a simple java skinning application so we wouldn’t have to spend so much time in 3dMax ehhh oh well guess my hopes of adding cool stuff to the game are a wash…cuts to much into my playing time now if we had a template where we could just add textures in Photoshop and submit id be down for that too. we need a graphic submission website and a 3d model submission that would be awesome …the few people that waste there life away on models can submit new models and the graphic artists can create multiple texture Options from the Texture maps via Photoshop template just lock the masking in Photoshop for bump maps/lighting/shading.
