Chains of Eternity Zone Flythroughs Video

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Expansion News

At SOE Live, we got to see some amazing flythrough videos of the EverQuest II: Chains of Eternity. A Youtube video has been posted by CyberInk which includes just some of this.

NOTE: Some of these zone flythroughs were taken a few weeks ago, and we were told by artists at SOE Live that changes have been made since then, so if you want to see how these zones look now, head over to the Beta server!!

    Well…

I almost had some old guildies convince me to give Secret World a whirl. Even spent most of the weekend on a trial account. Was kinda meh about it, but willing to give it a few bucks.

Then I saw the FanFaire stuff, and I was thinking of splitting my time.

    Then I saw this.

    Preordered x3.

I don’t know why but I wasn’t wowed by this. It feels like more of the same thing we’ve been getting since TSO. Purple being seriously overused, giant hulk-like monsters, unattractive dungeons that make you feel like an ant in a coliseum, and dragons breathing things that aren’t fire at the screen. I’m sure some people like that stuff, but I like beautiful places such as the faydarks, oldschool dungeons with tight corridores, music I can leave on and enjoy, and mythical beasts. I guess the newbs are right, it truly isn’t my game anymore. I’ll still hop into the beta to see if anything proves me wrong though. Gotta give everything a chance.

I think we’ll be seeing some music changes soon that seemed to be brought up alot, also eventually some playerstudio music smoke seemed to like that idea.

Stop attempting to warp the past with fixed nostalgia into something it wasn’t.

It’s the same old same old we got. Giant large dungeons that made you feel like an ant have ALWAYS been around. Permafrost/Soleye anyone? Or how about Living Tombs, Silent City, Kaladim, or Chardok?

Dragons have always been of various different elements. Why would an Ice, Poison, Thunder, Undead Dragon breath elemental fire?

Tight corridors, how tight? As in ungodly tight like Be…StormHold, or as in something like Mistmoore Catacombs.

Fire breathing dragons are only one type of dragon, there are multiple breeds. Vox is an ice dragon for example, and there are poison and lightning types as well as other types.

The reason most people seem to latch onto to fire types is that the fire breather looks more impressive when it attacks. Not that its any more impressive than an acid type that could melt everything into a puddle of ooze in just as short a time as the fire breather could turn it to ash.

As for dungeons i don’t mind large or small, i play with my friends and we manage to get killed in both types in hilarious ways so its all good either way for me. In truth instances were just small in number until TSO came out and they shifted to more instances and less overland. I will say i would prefer lots of overland and lots of instances as i enjoy both types but they might not be able to do that and stay on any kind of sane timeframe.

Though it with them saying that these arnt repurposed it looks like they might thankfully be pulling away from that. I mean i understand the reason for the repurposed in skyshrine since you are essentially traveling back in time in each instance to when that section of the city was attacked. i felt that the repurposed zones from Kael Drakkel was taking things to far.

I can say that i don’t really know about the music, i usually either have music playing in the background while i play or am on skype with friends so it’s not something that i really pay a great deal of attention to.

well, this caught me into actually getting the expansion pack 😀 the lack of any decent pre-order items threw me off getting it at all, but this video got me back into getting it! now they just need to add a house to collectors, and i will get collector’s edition instead of regular. the lore on this from the prelude quest definitely made me want to hear more on it….

I dunno about you guys, but i’m looking forward to be able to get Pools Sproutlings for a reasonable price (Hint: new Druid ring).

I have been to the Obol Plains. If it weren’t for raiding, I would never buy the expac. Rather, I’d through $40 away, chrono down and live in Loping Plains. Oh wait, maybe we weren’t supposed to notice….Nevermind.

    I love it!!

It looks great to me, and I’m a bit excited about the ship. Does that mean we will get a chance to play on board ships again? I hope it’s more than a solo quickie this time. I miss the multitude of overland zones that the old eq1 had. It was nice to have places to explore while you weren’t raiding or grouping, and made the world feel more “real” to me. The old eq has over 400 zones. It was HUGE.
I hope that eq2 will feel like that some day. I did try to get back into eq1 but the interface was just too confusing after 7 years of eq2. I’m sure I could relearn it, but I just don’t have the patience lol.
