Update Notes: Thursday, October 18, 2012

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Game Updates & Maintenance, Raiding

From the EQ2 Forums:

ZONE PROGRESSION

Raid zone timers have been returned to their previous states. Most are 2.8 days minimum and 7 days maximum. Plane of War is again 4.8 days minimum and 9 days maximum.

Sleeper’s Tomb

  • Updated shader on golem NPCs to address a crash issue.

Players have pointed out that the minimum lockout timer for Plane of War was 2.8 days, so we’re not sure if this is a typo in the update notes, or if SOE is keeping PoW at a longer lockout until they can address the exploit.

Well it isn’t a typo that has been confirmed.
The level of idiocy of these people knows no bounds.

It seems the latest patch is stopping a lot of people from being able to log in. The error “There was an error completing your request. Please try again.” appears on the launcher. The problem also seems to happen on the website and customer support.

And once again those guys reset everyones zones with their half assed, attempt at fixing a half baked solution to plugging an exploit that they have knowingly allowed to persist for ages. At least 1 full raid night worth of time has been wasted for us spread across 2 different nights.
Do they ever think anything through?
The funny thing about this is is back when DoV was released and the door would constantly bug out in Kraytoc, meaning that if you wipe your night was over, you zone was toast and until you could reset it you did something else.
When they finally fixed it, it did not impact existing zones, so your zone was still bugged until it could be reset, and /petition got you nothing except a snarky reply to the effect of “It is affecting everyone the same, sorry we can not intervene”

When it is detrimental to the playerbase then it can be done, when it is beneficial it can’t be done.

I really hope someone gives it to them at fanfaire over this kind of crap that they repeatedly do to the playerbase. Lyndro joking said throw tomatos, I think that stones are much more appropriate to deal with this sort of behavior.

dunno, my zones on Unrest arent reset… they just got the longer timers now.

and yea zoning into pow says the min timer is 4d20 (dunno what they’re thinking)

The zones didn’t reset the timers on your characters. Tuesday I still had my PoW timer from where the Boar, Berik and Tagrin had been killed, along with all the trash around Eriak. Going into the zone though all the trash was up the zone was reset and it overwrote the timer that I had.

This in itself goes to show that they can do things that they say they can’t do, they just won’t do them when it is their ineptness that is f*cking the players over, but to avoid punishing en masse the people who are exploiting (probably because of close dev ties with said offenders) once it reached a critical mass then they f*ck with everyone in the game that raids current content.

If they did not have the level of contempt they do for the playerbase they wouldn’t do this crap, but that isn’t the case and they continue to get more and more egregious with each new incident and the way they handle it.

When I get back I guess I’m going to have to turn on the word filter. I’m ashamed when SOE devs read the vile language people use. This ain’t Flames.

Agreed, Feldon. There are far better ways to get your point across without looking like a complete moron. Hopefully they look past the odd idiot with a keyboard spewing nonsense in every thread.

As far as this goes, I’m glad that they turned this back around and addressed the playerbase the last time with a better explanation for what they did and why. Asking the players not to exploit was a actually a nice touch, I think. An approach like that is the way to go and I hope that going forward we see more of it.

It’s unfortunate that even when things are handled well, the Devs see nothing but negativity. Good, bad…it doesn’t matter. Always more complaints. Players are upset by a change and devs listen. They reverse it. What do they see? More complaints.

So why did they change it in the first place, will be the response to that. Mistakes are made. Sometimes Devs make the wrong call. But I’m fairly certain they’re not sitting around trying to find ways to ruin the game for players. So why constantly infer it?

Are there issues and bugs in this game? Yes. And I’m sure that the Devs are aware of plenty of them. Making a list of your grievances at every opportunity is a waste. How about some suggestions? Some real constructive feedback?

We want devs to listen to the players. With the number of insults and name calling I see posted sometimes, it’s no wonder there’s a gap in communication. I get it, it’s the internet. You can be tough and nasty because you’re hidden behind a screen. I think it’s so easy to forget that these are people doing their jobs to make a living. They are just like us. They have their own stresses, worries, fears, feelings. But they spend each day working on a game. Something to make people happy. Something they can enjoy. Only to be torn down and attacked personally.

In the end, it’s just a game. Play and have fun. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t voice your opinion. I think that’s important. But be a fan. Tearing down the game you enjoy invalidates your attempt to improve it. Nobody can take you seriously.

Along the way there are going to be some bumps in the road and we’re not always going to like the direction we’re going in, but enjoy the ride while it lasts.

    Enjoy the people.

That’s what you’ll remember Everquest for.

Maybe it SoE didn’t constantly make one blunder after another, their playerbase wouldn’t be angry enough to use such language all the time.

One right move (dropping the forced Ps7 transfers) doesn’t make up for nearly a year of constant wrongs.

    @Trueflight

Except the majority of their playerbase isnt angry. There is a minority of you that are. The rest of us just enjoy the game and have fun playing.

@Feldon Sorry for the F bombs I’ll leave em off here in the future.

    and finally @Loch

It would be one thing if this had been a recently discovered exploit, it wasn’t. You think they handled this well? Really? They decide all of a sudden that this is such a crisis that it needs to be fixed and fixed immediately and put in a fix for it that could not possibly have been more disruptive to the raiding schedules of every raiding guild that plays the game. In doing this they made entire nights of preparation for a fair number of them a complete waste, all because an absolute minimal amount of thought was given to it to begin with.

    Then they reverse it

lol. NO. THEY. DID. NOT. Once again without being diligent they just throw a fix at it in hopes that it will suffice but they didn’t even get that right, with the PoW timer. In the process once again zones reset, wasting another night of work for many.

Every job is a self-portrait of the person who did it. Autograph your work with Quality.

Maybe everyone there needs to be required to keep this quote posted on their monitor, and told to recite it each day.

Constructive feedback is given, for over a year requests for them to look into Drunder itemization went practically ignored, save a token “We are looking at it”. DoV achievements just getting fixed in the last few weeks, things left on the back burner because they are considered ‘too insignifigant to bother with for now’ complacency is poisonous, and complacency is the root of all that is wrong right now. I’ve sent PM’s and publicly commended Tom Tobey on his reactions, and his dedication to what he does, he has a passion for perfection and it shows. NOBODY that was involved in this debacle has a passion for much more than picking up a paycheck on Friday, at least it sure seems that way. This was a very minor, very insignifigant exploit, the mobs at least had to be killed. The reforgin exploit that was reported to them over and over, it was ignored until someone finally used it and showed them just exactly how big and game breaking it was. Dan Kinney and the work his team did on exposing the player, item and guild data that Feldon and Dethdlr made a product with that is absolutely excellent, SOEs product that they delivered with the same technology is absolute rubbish and to this day still has major bugs that make some of the best features of it worthless.

I’ve tried to play this game all week and have fun, but at every turn SOE has spoiled that fun, this is the third night this week that we have been in PoW clearing trash just so we can work on a progression mob that we prepped the zone for on Monday, then again on Tuesday and once again tonight.

@Trueflight you have a point but this is Feldons house and he doesn’t wan’t it here. As for the dropping the forced transfers for EU customers, they only halfway did that, it didn’t effect all games, and as it has been pointed out the timing absolutely stinks, I would not expect that to remain that way for long, but I hope I am wrong.
