Sleeper’s Tomb Survey Shenanigans

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Commentary

We have identified a problem with responses to the Sleeper’s Tomb Survey on EQ2Wire.

Specifically, after looking at timestamps, we have determined that through some automated means, nearly 200 answers were submitted within a span of a few minutes. This is highly suspicious and casts doubt on the veracity of the survey. It is unfortunate that someone would abuse the system to try to pad or discredit results.

Further surveys will be conducted on EQ2Wire only after we are able to prevent duplicate voting by a combination of IP addresses, sessions, and/or cookies.

UPDATE: I’ve gone through and removed the most egregious examples of ballot box stuffing.

I would bet my bank that it was an SOE shill. I’m glad to see that others noticed what I did and I wasn’t crazy. This zone is mediocre at best. =D

OK, seriously? Who cares enough to spoof a poll here? Seriously? Is /b/ down and the /b/tards are bored? Is someone doing a project for their Advanced Electioneering course? Isn’t it bad enough I put up with this sort of crap in the allegedly-real-world, I can’t even come here to get away from it? Raptor jeebus on a pogo stick, this ticks me off…

Captcha might work, though not sure how to make it happen only one per survey submission. To have it happen every question would be a pain.

I think Survey Monkey has an option to issue unique survey keys by entering your email address…though there’s a good chance that could be abused to spam people too.

Does dishonest, exploiting or just plain destructively disgruntled best describe a growing, maybe even dominating, part of the community? I fail to see the benefit behind actions like this attack on Feldon and the rest of us. At least a mugger is given by financial gain. I suppose I’m not unhappy enough or trashy enough to see destruction add my payoff.

I want to apologize to you, Feldon, and the other volunteers who try to build something positive… on behalf of the worthless douche(s) who would never consider apologizing for themselves.

Thank you for going back through and making the poll as legit as possible. It is sad when a system intended for unbiased results is messed with.

These shenanigans have me rolling this morning! (thanks auto correct)

I love that both Deth and Feldon went on the defensive when people questioned the results in the original thread…

Have you been able to identify the ip address of the bot who did that?

Pretty sure they were defending that the poll was not “SoE sanctioned” but just for those that came to this site and that it was a “blind survey”. That or they were defending personal comments aimed at them which is understandable. It’s worth noting that they did this on their own in the spirit of honesty.

I beleive they mentioned that the way the survey was done it did not track IPs.

Do you also love that I went through 77 pages of responses one by one to see if I could find any evidence of ballot stuffing? Or how about the fact that we let everyone know what had happened once we found out instead of just staying quiet which would have been much easier to do? lol. Do you love that too? 🙂

Everyone calm down. There’s only one rational response to this. It’s to realize Gaealiege was right. You’re welcome.

Dethdlr and Feldon both work for the CIA and have been collaborating with SoE to undermine and trick EQ2’s player base.

It’s funny that people have been calling SoE out on this issue since these poll results started showing the opposite of player opinion on several subjects, but it wasn’t until the results came up something that SoE didn’t want that it became an issue.
