EQ2Wire: Ending the Lull

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Commentary

EQ2Wire updates have been a bit light lately. But it wasn’t my fault.

I ran out of gas. I… I had a flat tire. I didn’t have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn’t come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locusts! IT WASN’T MY FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD!

Actually, I have a rather good excuse…

One does not simply walk into St. Petersburg, Russia.

Sorry I couldn’t visit any EQ2 players on Russian servers. The tour group had us on a short leash. Still…

The astonishing Church on the Spilled Blood.

Back tomorrow with some insight into Game Update 64, the Qeynos Revamp, and more!

Off topic for this thread but… I have to clear my browsing history and cookies to give me the ability to post here. I’m not that familiar with this forum so wanted to ask – is this normal?

    Cheers.

The churches I visited (Peter and Paul, St. Issac’s, and the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood) are stunningly beautiful, and I say that having twice been inside Notre Dame in Paris.

The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood (built on the site where Tsar Alexander II was assassinated and named in commemoration) was almost entirely mosaics inside. The pillars, the ceilings, the walls, I have never seen so many mosaics in one place. And the building had undergone restoration after World War II bombing.

I also visited the Hermitage museum which may not equal the Louvre for sheer size, but has a truly astounding collection of masterworks. They have some 3 million pieces of art and sculpture which they are constantly rotating in and out of the museum such that you have a different experience each time you visit.

A once in a lifetime trip for sure. I also visited Helsinki, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden which is such a beautiful city. Now I will be able to envision the places as I read the third Girl with the Dragon Tattoo book.

Great to see you back Feldon. I’ve been eagerly anticipating your article/write up/take on ethereal weapons. Like I know they only drop during August, but do they also disappear after August? And what’s the deal with getting them – do the lvl 92 ones drop if you’re mentored, does the mob have to con to you, etc, etc, etc…… I feel so lost without a good eq2wire article on them.

    Dellmon,

    Yes, yes I did. 😉

St. Petersburg was an incredible and intriguing visit. It is a city of contrasts, with beautiful sculptures and structures meshed with Soviet-era housing. Of course it is not possible to draw any solid conclusions based on visiting a city for just 10 hours spread over 2 days. We were only shown certain parts of the city. But after witnessing the opulence of the palaces and the churches contrasted with the grim apartment complexes we drove past, I think I may have a little better understanding of why there was a revolution. “Spared no expense” is an apt phrase to describe the palaces and churches.

If I’m wrong, hopefully someone will correct me.

It seems that SOE have announced at Gamescon today that other titles including EQ and Vanguard are being transferred across to ProSiebenSat.1 in Europe.

It’ll be interesting to see how many independent sites report this if true, as they seem mainly to have had a few favours called in by SOE where the ProSiebenSat.1 deal is concerned and are failing to report on it. Either that or they are mistaken enough to think that Europeans don’t matter in the future health of MMOs and such independent sites and/or this deal won’t impact on American players.

Feldon started out by reporting on the original deal and getting into forum difficulties with SOE over it. I have every hope that further reporting will continue here as it’s going to have a very major effect on all players of SOE’s games no matter where they are based and it’s important that people know about it. There is still a huge amount of ignorance on this so far as players who don’t frequent the forums are concerned, and according to the timetable notified to some players by SOE it would seem that the EQ2 transition may only be a couple of weeks away.

Well having EQ and Vanguard included in the Pro7Sat.1 deal solves one problem — All Access customers.

As for EQ2, unless something has changed, the localised EQ2 sites need to be ready at Pro7Sat.1 before such a transition can take place.

I’ve heard some things like Pro7Sat.1/Alaplaya is not allowing more than one customer per e-mail address. That would be very bad for people with multiple accounts.

No multiple accounts, and you must agree to PSS1 having remote access to your computer in the event of a support ticket being submitted. Subscription price hike.

Like I said Feldon,I suggest you read up on the EQ2 thread along with the new ones on EQ and, no doubt, VG, and then put up an article on it. Your readers deserve to know what is going on.

As for All Access customers, PSS1 don’t have any such scheme at present so it only resolves the situation in that instead of players having to pay separately to play a bunch of SOE games and individually for each PSS1 game, they’ll now have to pay separately for every game they play.
