Double Experience Easter Weekend — Friday, April 6 ~ Sunday April 8

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Game Updates & Maintenance, Live Events

In preparation for Game Update 63: Skyshrine (arriving April 17th, 2012), EQII is having a Double XP Weekend.

Starting at 12:01 pm Pacific (Noon) on Friday, April 6, 2012 and lasting until 11:59 pm Pacific on Sunday, April 8, 2012 we’ll offer Double Experience in EverQuest II! Take advantage of these three days and watch those XP bars fill up!

Time Zone Conversions

  • PDT: April 6 @ 12:01pm ~ April 8 @ 11:59pm
  • EDT: April 6 @ 3:01pm ~ April 9 @ 2:59am
  • BST: April 6 @ 20:00 ~ April 9 @ 7:59
  • CET: April 6 @ 21:00 ~ April 9 @ 8:59

UPDATE: Looks like Double XP started 12 hours early, at 12:01am Friday morning.

What Do I Need for Game Update 63?

As you may have read, the Alternate Advancement XP curve is changing in EQ2. Although we can’t promise there won’t be changes from how this formula is working on Test, here are some example numbers that people are seeing:

  • Current: 248 AAs ~ After GU63: 280 AAs
  • Current: 284 AAs ~ After GU63: 320 AAs

If this change goes live on April 17th, then when you login, your AAs will be boosted significantly.

Commentary

Because Game Update 63 requires you to have 280 AAs before you can start leveling to level 91 and 92 and earning Prestige Points (granted based on level and not related to AAs), I currently plan to bring all of my alts up to *at least* 248 AAs, but probably 265 AAs so when they login, they are already over 300 and will probably reach 320 AA from questing in Skyshrine and assorted new dungeon runs.

Although it has not been officially stated, we expect this to be Double XP to Adventure XP, AA XP, and Tradeskill XP. Guild XP bonuses are rare.

    Amazing.

They couldn’t extend this until noon Monday. I mean, two and a HALF days? Really? I guess I’m only complaining because I work weekends so I miss most of the bonus time, but an extension through Monday morning would give me a nice, solid window in which to grind my brains out. Okay, granted, it’s just my 3rd-5th alts at this point, but still, it’s the principle of the thing.

Ah well, at least I can get one more character ‘ready’ for GU63. Maybe two, but unlikely. I’ll take what I can get!

I hope they outlaw double xp in EQ3! It is the biggest reason why all lower lvl zones from T2 to T8 or now obsolete. No one has to run lower lvl zones because SoE is spoon feeding them Exp and AA during these weekends. Nor does anyone even have the desire to do so anymore because they know that another x2 weekend is right around the corner and they can just spend 1 day following around a raid geared crusader as he pulls room after room of the same mobs. Is that adventure? Is it challenging? I dare say it’s not even fun. It’s a means to an end carried out in a lifeless, mechanical fasion.

SoE, this isn’t what made the name Everquest great. The Everquest that I am nostalgic about is when 6 players ‘have no choice’ but to ban together at all lvls to earn EXP and AA as they run quests and fight new mobs and experience new zones. Whether it be Fallen Gate, Obelisk of Lost Souls or Nizara. People grouped together in all tiers, all the time because that is how you progressed thru this game. You did it NOT alone with a merc but with other players as you experienced the satisfaction of conquering a new challenge.

Sadly those days are gone and now SoE’s priority is not making a great and challenging mmo that people want to play but instead their focusing on boosting Station Cash revenue as they dilute the game in order to make it more palatable to the casual and Free to Play player who is so fickle he or she won’t have the resolve to stick around anyway and meanwhile their back door is bigger than their front door.

I would be very interested to see how many accounts SoE has lost just since the launch of “The Shadow Odyssey”. I”m sad to say, I will soon be apart of that statistic.

@Magar Sadly it’ll be more like one and a half days for a lot of people who will be spending Sunday with their family, or those overseas who will basically lose out on Friday because of the late start time.

Regarding the AA change: I’m a bit bummed that my main will be shoved to 320. I hit 292 with her today and was perfectly content working my way up at my own pace. I’d rather see an option for the XP granted to those already above the 280 mark to be applied to the new levels instead, but oh well. I’ll pick a character to work on aside from my main this weekend.

This might have been answered before but how will the raised level cap affect Veteran Bonus (20% more XP for every character at max level)?

As it appears on Test now, level 90 counts for Veteran Bonus.

Yep as usual Europe is not really considered when they set Double XP times. If they had done Double XP from Friday morning at 12:01am until Monday at Noon, then Europe would get 4 evenings out of it. As it is now, we barely get 2.

Yay, double XP! Me, as a casual player, will put it to good use.

You may want to check those dates though (actually, Ashlanne should). Double XP is already active.

12 hours changes 4 nights into barely 2? Oh well…hopefully people caught on that it got turned on early anyway.

Doh…missed the monday at noon part. I still wish they’d give double xp out as potions instead of actual days. No complaints available for any work shift or timezone.
