Grumbles something about them not being slick with “rebate” sale instead of true double station cash…

    What is a “Presidents Day”?

One of these decades SOE just might give a Double XP event on something other than a US national holiday ….. and I will fall off my chair in surprise and shock!

Why not just call it a ‘half-off’ sale? Seriously, guys?

@Anaogi: Because a half off sale wouldn’t require you to have the full price on hand prior to purchase, and thus wouldn’t generate as much cash for SOE.

@Milliebii: Considering SOE is an American operation, would you expect otherwise? (Do companies in any country make a habit of running special events during foreign holidays?)

Well last time I looked Sony was Japanese, but I could be wrong; and then there is the Prosiebensat thingy … Deutsche nein?

Also lots of international customers …. but then we dont come into the US view do we?

…so. Manipulating the sales numbers, then.

    That’s not a good sign.

Well consider that SC is actually worthless, you just get digital items for it. SoE wants as much of your REAL money for whatever amount of their FAKE currency. If an item cost 2000 SC and has a 1000 SC rebate you still had to buy 2000 SC worth of real money, ya, it amounts to you getting 50% more digital items with the fake currency, but they got that full amount of real money from you. If you just wanted that one item you’d have only had to buy 1000 SC and then SoE would not have dipped as far into your wallet. It doesn’t matter if they sell 1 or 10 digital flying horses, what matters is the actual money coming into them.

@Milliebii: The parent company Sony may be Japanese, but SOE is in America. Headquartered in San Diego, specifically. Prosiebensat is a partner for dealing with other countries, not part of SOE.

These events are scheduled by Americans in America, where most of the players are. I’m not giving any value judgements here, just saying don’t hold your breath for a Guy Fawkes day event.

Morons – they broke tracking – just spent $5 to get tracking scrolls and they get used but don’t produce the spell… sigh..

This sale is going well! If you view the marketplace from the character select screen, the rebate tag is displayed on various expansions, character packs, and more, but none of them will actually give you a rebate. Viewing from within the game, none of the aforementioned items display a rebate tag.

But wait, viewing from within the game isn’t safe either! Some ebony furniture is marked as free but actually takes your SC. (The latter indicates sloppy programming. Why are different functions used to retrieve the price displayed versus the price deducted?)

Great job, SOE! And it’s a good thing you run this stuff on the weekend when nobody is around to notice or fix it.

I liked the rebate idea. Like a President’s Day sale rather than the usual Double SC kinda thing. Too bad it crashed and burned before the day was even close to being over.

I wish they would just plop the items on sale in the SALE folder for half price.

Having to spend the money up front will result in more people having bought SC so it’s more likely to be a windfall for them than doing it the other way.

@snowdarc I love your last line there meet the new boss, same as the old boss, from the Who’s Next Album “Won’t Get Fooled Again”. Here I thought I was the only who fan left playing the game, giving my age away. I actually went to that concert, and the quadrophenia concert.

If you bought sc when it was triple then you would be getting 1/6 the cost of anything you bought with the rebate sale, as you get half of it back. Rebate sale was pretty win for me…

There was a time when the prospect of double experience would have had me giddy with anticipation. I’d rearrange my day, just to get as much out of those precious hours as I could. These days, it doesn’t even tempt me to log in. I miss that feeling – that excitement. I log in now and then, just to chat with friends and keep up with guild happenings. Station cash sale? No thanks.

Didn’t bother logging in, and from the forums, it sounds like I missed nothing but possible hassles. Whatever’s left of their workforce must be overloaded, they seem incapable of pulling off anything cleanly anymore.

Then there’s their new distribution partner, they finally found a solution for not being able to do marketing and distribution in Europe after all these years, outsourcing. It just makes SOE look more bush league rather than part of a multinational corporation with an existing distribution system through SCE. It makes you wonder if SCE as a whole is now also as inept. I haven’t logged into PSN in months, maybe I should avoid that too.

Well, I for one am bummed I missed the last double xp weekend; just came back to playing at the beginning of the year only to have my computer decide it was time to go to the great LAN in the sky. Just got a whole new one up and running a couple weeks ago…

Regardless, I do see why people aren’t as excited about it or SC bonuses anymore. I didn’t care when I played full time and was only playing my main for raiding. Now though, I’m leveling up a couple of new characters and keep running out of vitality.

Any word on the next double xp weekend? (And thanks Snowdarc, for the laugh :))
