EQ2U/EQ2Players Privacy — Alts are Opt-in

Written by Feldon on . Posted in EQ2 Data & EQ2U

Today, players gain more control over their Privacy for EQ2, EQ2Players, and API-driven websites like EQ2U.

Starting today, you can now Opt-in the discovery of your Alt characters when players lookup or search for your Characters on EQ2Players or EQ2U.

If you DO NOT WANT players to be able to find/see your Alts, then do nothing. By default, the Link to Alt Characters setting is disabled for all characters.

If you want players to be able to find some or all of your Alts, then enable the Link to Alt Characters setting on EACH character that you want to be discoverable.

And as we have discussed before, if you don’t want anyone to be able to view or search for any of your characters, simply uncheck the Enable EQ2Players Updates setting on each character.

UPDATE: EQ2U is now supporting Alts for characters that have this feature enabled!

NOTE: Players with custom UIs such as DrumsUI and ProfitUI have reported problems enabling their Character and Alt settings. Until there is an update, we suggest renaming your \EverQuest II\UI\%uiname%\eq2ui_mainhud_persona.xml file, logging in each character and setting your permissions how you want, then renaming the file back.

Trackback from your site.

“By default, the Link to Alt Characters setting is disabled for all characters.”

This is kind of lame. Because when old EQ2Players website was around, I was able to look up people’s alts until they made them hidden. Oh well I guess~ 🙁

It’s an old problem. Some players want to be able to hide from their guilds and just have a night off. Guild leaders want to be able to track down errant players, and others want to be able to see if the “so-and-so” who recently griefed them is on with an alt, or might even be in their guild with an alt. No one is ever going to be happy.

I just logged in the game and the only option I see is to enable eq2 players updates, no option for alts.
Is this currently live or will be included in a future update?

I didn’t see the option for linking to Alts on the Live server. I saw it on test and linked my two lowbie test characters, but when I went to live to check in my alts I didn’t see the option.

Update your custom UI’s daily. It may not be needed that often, but it’s a good habit to be in.

How come you MUST type in 3 characters to search on characters?
Ex. I was interedted to see how 90/320 Beastlords that raids was AA speced.
So I wanted to search for all Beastlords lvl 90 and 320 AA spent. But then it just complained that I need atleast 3 characters in name field.
