OK, the Antonia Bayle looks like an ad for some ‘CGI Coeds Gone Wild’ site.

Not that I’m complaining, mind you.

Unless EQ2U is going to let me look up info on my characters, see their stats, see what they’re wearing, their AAs, their spell levels, things like that and more, I’m not interested.

    (Insider note: I’m interested)

So your gonna try to compete with Magelo? That is if what ever your making is what I think it might be.

Are you going to be able to see people’s alts (those able not blocked by their personal settings) like in the old EQ2players?

Is Magelo planning an EQ2 site? As an EQ2 only player, they are not even on my radar as someone to look to for information – they are merely a memory of something back in EQ1.

You mean is Magelo going to try to compete with EQ2Wire? I’m not aware of any development on their part towards building an EQ2 site. We’ve been working our butts off for the last 4 months.

Are you going to be able to see people’s alts (those able not blocked by their personal settings) like in the old EQ2players?

We had this ability for the first 4 months of development, then this feature was disabled so they could find a different way to provide us that information. I’m cautiously optimistic.

Are there security settings for keeping specs and stuff private? The data feed sample i saw has EVERYTHING.

Also do you plan on having the ability to compare 2+ toons, spells, gear, etc. like a shopping site? 🙂

p.s. I hope EQ2U isn’t coming “soon” like SOE’s EQ2 player’s replacement has been “almost” ready for well over a year (or is it 2).

    Let’s have a date, Feldon! 😉

Right now, it’s all-or-nothing on a per-character basis. You have been able for the last 2 months to login to your EQ2 character, go to Persona, click EQ2 Share, and uncheck “Enable EQ2Players Updates” and then you are completely opted out of our service.

At some point there may be more fine-grained choices.

Also do you plan on having the ability to compare 2+ toons, spells, gear, etc. like a shopping site?

There’s a lot of info about each character, more than we’re even currently displaying. The hardest part of the site, as you can imagine, has been Gear Upgrades. Item Wishlists/Havelists are the bomb. 😉

From your Q’s on the data feed forum, I half expected this is what you were making so I hadn’t delayed working on anything of the sort. Kept to just item bbcode popups and signature generators

I didn’t mean to take any thing away from your “hard work”. Being I was talking to you and didn’t know 100% what eq2u was, it wouldn’t of been correct to ask if you they was going to compete with you. Don’t be such a puss man, your site is top notch.

I apologize if it seems like I was taking a dig at you. I didn’t know that the folks at Magelo had at one time shown interest in building an EQ2 site.

In case you’re curious, Dethdlr and I have been coordinating with Dan Kinney, Zoltaroth, and others at SOE over the last 6 months, testing and giving feedback on the format and quantity of data returned on characters, items, guilds, etc. More recently, other fan sites and individuals have gotten involved, all giving input and doing their own testing and making great suggestions. To give you an idea, at the beginning, adornments didn’t have slot info, and the procs/effects on items weren’t broken out in a searchable way. The quality and quantity of the data has improved dramatically since this project started. Whenever we’ve asked for something, the response has usually been “Check the feeds now, we just added that” or a meaningful conversation about the best way to add it.

Working with the folks at SOE on this has been a fantastic experience.

Well, now I see why my request to have http://eq2mission.flame.org/ added to the list of links on the left-side bar was ignored… 😛 ’cause you can look up player stats there and other tidbits.

Actually, I haven’t been able to. Every time I try to log in, I get an error message. I haven’t been able to change my settings. The last time I DID change my settings, I had it set at, “Allow guild member only to view character.” But I cannot change it or even know if it is still set at that.

I also haven’t been able to view my character, especially Charn on Guk, whom I turned into a Freeblood. Just viewing it (while not signed in) and the whole page is messed up. It’s been a WHILE (maybe since Fan Faire?) that I’ve even tried to view my character or log in . . . I’m hoping this new stuff allows me to do that. Thankfully it became free and I’m not paying extra for it anymore, or I’d be a bit livid. That was one smart thing SoE did, knowing how borked the website had become they stopped charging for it.

Though it IS especially annoying on alts. All of the DoV stuff is blank in those slots (or at least was) and I cannot see what’s there. It’s a hassle when bidding for raid pieces on alts. I’ve had to resort to old-school .txt file lists in windows . . . that I have to type in myself! /gasp The outrage, making me have to do stuff . . .

      Charn,

EQ2Players has been offline since the first week of December. I’m talking about your EQ2 Share settings within EQ2.

      Quicktiger,

When we launch, we’re going to evaluate all the API-driven tools out there. Right now that’s pretty much your site, and the Quest Forever Android app. As we’re not doing Leaderboards (at least at first) I predict we’ll be sending anyone interested in that info to your site. 😉

That is good to hear they are working with the fan site community Feldon. The way you described it is like the way they use to work with us over at EQ2interface.com on UI stuff.

    Feldon,

Let’s work together on one unified (at least from the user’s point of view) rather than two different sites if possible. Diversity is good, but duplication is a waste of time for me as I’m a on-kerran coding team at the moment. I’ve had others offer to help, but I’m not QUITE ready to share my (sometimes ugly) code.

Who knows, we may even find out our sites have completely differing goals. I am more of the “bulk data analysis” while you seems to be focusing more on the immediate needs of “what’s this player got on their head?”

BTW, for those worried about the all-or-nothing nature, remember that coin carried is currently public. I think this is OK personally, but I’ve started a survey/poll over on http://eq2mission.flame.org/ to collect community responses. SoE has asked the developers like myself and Feldon what we think should happen, and to be honest I don’t know. Very few will complain if it is not there, but many may if it is. However, that’s just my take on things. Go on over there and give me your view.

In a week or two I’ll collect the responses and send them along to the SoE folk as my feedback.

    Updates:

    • Coin (Copper/Silver/Gold/Platinum) has been REMOVED from the data feed.
    • Searching Alts will be Opt-In and set on a per-character basis.

I was REALLY hoping that Alts would be Opt-Out instead of Opt-In since it means people have to login to EACH character and opt EACH one in before they are all discoverable through Alt lookups.

I do find it odd that each toon is “opt-out” on creation, but they are making alts “opt-in”.

And like the last change they made with EQ2Share, they probably won’t tell anyone. So it’s likely alts will by and large not be viewable. I know I probably won’t bother.

As the giver of data, I hope SOE puts in some sort of privacy controls instead of “all or nothing”. As consumer of the data, I want it all available 🙂

Alt opt in is a very good thing.

It’s for the same reason I don’t guild tag all my characters. Sometimes I need just a little space and time away to go wreck things without the normal drama, even if muted and tame by comparison to HC raid guild drama, and chatter of life in a guild. It is sort of like shutting your cell phone off when you are at a wedding or a movie… not everyone needs to be able to contact me or know what I am doing all the time.

I think the same thing can be said about coin. I personally don’t have anything to hide (probably less than 200 pp currently across all my characters), other than the perhaps embarassingly low amount, but for some, it would probably spark a great discontent about another’s amassed wealth, which should be really no ones concern, except at most, perhaps SOE themselves.

Yea I like that opt in for alts myself. That way I don’t have to bother with the alts I never play and opt out. Actually I think the only things that should be set to opt out is the character and eqpt.

    Feldon,
Really? Where have I been, I didn’t even know there were EQ2 share settings within EQ2 itself. Will it still allow me to log in to their website, or some other website, and search for my own alts and see what it is they’re wearing? That’s the most use I get out of the site, seeing what my alts have or don’t have for alt-raid bidding.

Yep, the survey was taken down since it served its purpose, to have SoE make a decision.

I think perhaps I should start another, though. “Should information to alts be opt-in or opt-out?” I prefer opt-out as well…

I’d also prefer opt-out, but either way there’s going to be a certain amount of players that have to check / uncheck the option. I don’t really mind whichever way it turns out, even if it’s opt-in it won’t be that hard to spend 10 minutes log all my alts in and hit the option real quick.
