From the Everquest2 Facebook Page:

Ladies and Gentlemen, Friends and Trolls…

We have just evaluated the status of the current update and have come to the conclusion that we can either unlock servers and risk broken content, or ensure that we provide the best experience possible and delay the update to tomorrow morning.
We have to do it RIGHT. For all of you and for all of us.
So please, bear with us, relax overnight, and let us sortie into the new day together. Community will be in office at 7:00am PST and will immediately review status and give you all an update. We are aiming for morning and working as hard as we possibly can.
Yer faithful Dwarf,
Brasse

Update:

Friends,

A final update this evening… Smed would like us to share that with the Platform Team working all night to complete the maintenance, we expect to be up at 10:00am PST.

Again, the Community Team will be in at 7:00am and will get you a status update.

Thank you, once more, for hanging in there with us. We are honored and appreciate your support of our efforts to make Norrath more enjoyable for all!

Anyone surprised by this, has not been playing EQ2 very long.

I mean, what do you think is is WoW?

Not surprised. I know they’ll get it right. Maybe they’ll even throw in some little perks for loyal subscribers to make up for any delays.

For one I really just wish SoE could of thought harder about a release date and the time it takes. I mean You make us all sit by, around, near are damn computers all day and all night to come back and say. We regret to tell you, that you all get to wait 12-18hour longer. Thanks for another waste to what could of been a better day.

7am Pacific Time is 9am Central Time. Maybe launching a new expansion, the biggest holiday in-game content, a new launcher, a completely new free-to-play merger, and a game update 62 that revamps an entire city (not to mention trying to get a new website live) is just a dumb decision. Given the webcast today of how excited everyone was and how jacked up SJ was around 10:30 Pacific Time when he said everything was going to be good by noon, is just sad.

Roll back and let us play – fix your garbage.

What a joke. Giving excuses like. “Done Right” . Wow SOE, maybe it should’ve been right at launch. Bunch of no talent clowns

“We have to do it RIGHT.” The chance to do it RIGHT has already passed. Doing it RIGHT involved a staggered deployment of these features after having tested the procedure on a real test server.

Lodey, Karl was referring to Central European Time, which is indeed 9 hours later than PST.

I tend to agree the time for “doing it right” ended at midnight Dec 5th, Dec 6th is the day that distinguishes professionalism from incompetence, sadly the latter won.

What’s funny is despite the servers being down for over a day, this entire update will still be launched with countless bugs, game breaking content and will still take SOE months to fix.

Looks like they broke the streak of semi-flawless expansion launches (in that servers came up same day).

Suddenly I had a flashback to December 2004.

What do they think, beta starts a few weeks before launch, and 3 days prior to launch only 4000 people are even invited. I know there was no content to test, but still foolish. This game is sadly one big joke now, Fire Smoke.

Hmmm.. This Expansion doenst even included any type of content. No Overland Zones, no Instances only a few features that you can count on one Hand. What takes they so long? F2P Merger? Freeport Revamp?

Seriously, if this needed 2 Days for a Non Content Expansion. Then DoV have needed much more…its senseless to me. Maybe they have technical Problems, but i think its not because of the Expansion.

By the looks, all the issues are with the F2P conversion. Char slot counts reset to default and so on, it looks funny to see 6 of your toons ‘locked’ since the slot for them vanished.

What a joke, in all the years i have played eq1 and 2 they have Never launched an update without it being a goat rodeo. Everytime they say were tring to make sure its right, then its followed by even more down time. Dont release crap or dates until you know it will work for a change, how about that

It isn’t the expansion that’s the problem, it’s the EQ2X merger. They underestimated how much time it would take their servers to finish processing all the account status changes and QA them properly to make sure nobody’s entitlements got hosed. Having worked in tech support during a major system conversion, I can totally understand. No battle plan survives first contact with the enemy, so they say.

I can’t believe how negative these forums are every time something happens, …ya wouldnt hear as much crying if you dragged Santa Clause into a kindergarten classroom and summarily executed him, lol. I would love to see a lil more patience and a lil more class across the board…would make EQ life so much more pleasant 🙂

I don’t think the downtime has anything to do with the AOD expansion itself. It sounds like it’s totally a result of them making the the live servers free to play and merging EQ2 and EQ2x

@severyine — there’s patience, and then there’s justifiable unhappiness at a complete screw up by a company. Patience is, “well the down time was extended by another three hours, sorry — we want to get it right.” That doesn’t warrant that much complaining. However, at this point, even you have to admit two days of unplanned downtime because a huge mistake was made somewhere is fairly unacceptable.

There’s nothing they can do about it but apologise, but it should not go uncriticized. They KNOW they have made a mistake and a miscalculation, thus all the letters and apologies to the player base.

We do pay for our subscriptions/gold memberships, after all.

Ignorant comment severyine. Want an anology? If you dropped of your car for an unexpected repair and it took two weeks to repair instead of one, you would be bitching the entire week extra you were walking to work. If it was the first time it happened people might be more forgiving but when it is a habitual problem you are just an enabler to an alcoholic. Thats why they do crap like a gift with a preordered expansion. If i hadnt already spent my money i would have spent it on something else intead of a company that continually fails to meet its own deadlines
