Station Access Price Cut to $19.99

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Uncategorized

EQ2 ZAM were paying attention during SOE’s live webcast from the E3 show floor and among other things picked up the news that the multi-game Station Access accounts will see a price cut to $19.99. Not only does Station Access grant 12 rather than the 7 character slots of a normal account (although additional character slots can be purchased for either), but it also allows players to access other games like EverQuest 1, Vanguard, Star Wars Galaxies, Pirates of the Burning Sea, etc.

From EQ2 ZAM:

Sony Online Entertainment just confirmed during their live E3 stream that Station Access will soon be dropping to $19.99 per month from the current price of $29.99 per month. That means you can get access to all of SOE’s games for a little more than the price of one game subscription!

Now if only they add that you don’t have to buy the game initially to get started.

This greatly benefits me considering I pay for three SOE accounts, two of which have station access. 20 dollars in savings = instant win.

…Why did they up the price 4 times to cut the price to the original price…?

This is good news to me. I was planning on tiering down to just pay for EQ2 since i haven’t been around much and only come online to RP with my guild. If they are going to drop the price then i guess I’ll keep it. This may mean regular subs will drop too. If not, there wont be much of a price difference to keep people on a regular sub. lol

Maybe they are finally realizing there is competition out there…

    “Awaiting obligatory complaints.”

If I ever get around to trying DCUO, I would have preferred the PS3 version, both because of the gamepad and because that version is reportedly more populous. Unfortunately, the PS3 version is not on the Station Pass (was it really that hard for two divisions of the same company to agree how to split the revenue?), and this move effectively lowers the monthly fee for your second PC SOE game to $5, which makes it really hard to justify the PS3 version.

    There, how’d I do? 🙂

@ green armadillo: it will suffice, I suppose. Mainly, I was waiting for a particular someone to state how this is going to ruin EQII, or SOE for that matter. You at least seem to have a legitimate gripe.

Yet once again they are dumbing down the game.

I had to EARN that $29.99 a month and now noobs are going to be able to come in and get away with only paying $19.99 a month?!?! WTFBBQ?!?!!

They are doing everything they can to just milk the cash cow that is EQ2. I swear!

Do the devs even pay to play this game?

Gah! This is just catering to teh casuals!!1!1

    I got nuthin else really.

I seriously don’t see any negative point of this. One might think lowering the price they wont get as much money, but i know from experience if you lower your prices more people buy your merch. That means more money you otherwise wouldn’t have made.

Okay, but will this be factored into time owed? For example, if I cancelled my Station Pass, paid for a year of EQ2 to get special items, then became a Station Pass subscriber again, my Station Pass subscription was credited for the amount it cost for a year of EQ2. Is this new price going to be re-calculated thus giving me more time before they start charging my credit card again?

I really hope the people with negative comments are joking, heh. IF not…. Seriously? You are complaining that you are paying less?

Yes, Planetside is the only reason I am thinking of upgrading my account back to SA.
