From SOE’s Facebook page:

We thank everyone for their continued patience as work continues on SOE services. They will not be up today, May 10th, but we are working as quickly as possible to resolve this.

Bugger this. At least I have Rift (and City of Heroes if I get that jones).

SOE, you suck. Somebody out there, hit it rich in the lottery and buy the whole kit and kaboodle for someone to run who knows what they’re doing!

    Amateur hour. This is pathetic.

Sony needs to start releasing more information. They need to tell us the cause of the delay and give us some sort of estimate for the restoration of service that isn’t tied to the PSN. If SOE and PSN are separate then they need to give us an estimate just like they gave PSN users. The lack of decent games and the PSN outage lead me to sell my PS3. If the SOE outage lasts much longer my EQ2 addiction will fade too and I know I’m far from alone.

Man, if I won the lottery I would never in a million years think about buying or even starting an MMO.

Dealing with the users who are always whining and complaining would be worse than working retail.

It seems like it is never going to be up and I am for sure the next time that I look at my bank statement it better not have been charged for this month at all. When and if it ever gets back up, they better give more than just one month free and everyday after that a free day cause if not then I am going to not only go for the groin area I am going to ask the purchase price back for what I bought the game for in the first place and then some especially to cancel my account so…get with it and get on the ball already!!!!!!!!!

Keep in mind that 30 days free is more then you agreed to when you bought said game. It’s a huge service, just trying to make sense of what happened if going to take a while, and what’s the point of putting it back up if it just happens again.

Your billing will not stop, and it will be carried forward. (And keep in mind per visa if you cancel the card your bank can and will potentially give them the new number so they can continue charging you.)

Not if you dispute it. I’ve told my bank to not allow charges from “soandso corporation” after I’ve had disputes with a few and my bank has not allowed them to charge to my credit card after I’ve cancelled it and gotten a new one.

I believe you can call to cancel it and they do continue to charge, and will carry it forward. (having had a friend charged and called about it Thursday.)

Yes, I have had that crap about if you cancel your new account they can still continue to charge you handed to me by Chase one time. Upon investigation it turns out that is in their agreemeent with Visa and Mastercard. It is no where in your agreement with the bank, so although they are on the hook for it, if you want you can take them to court and they won’t win. It’s not like a bank would send someone to small claims court anyhow if you sued. I had to cancel my account with Chase when they did this to me and they still said they would continue to bill me. I then talked to someone higher up who suggested the person that told me that was full of crap. The best thing to do is call your bank ahead of time and tell them to stop the automatic payments, they will usually do that for you if you ask them too.

I wonder what will happen with my account – I changed my credit card after this nonsense. Will it be cancelled since its payment was rejected. Will I miss out on the free time cause my account is cancelled?

Not like you guys are paying during the downtime. If anything, you’ll probably make a profit off of it in terms of comped game time. Go read a book or something.

At last i hope they got time to work on itemization lol. And we ll get a huge lovely patch when EQ will be back.

People got lot of time for try other game, think different. Dont forget to do some feedback. Got some idea that could be nice to EQ. Like an NPC who sell quest, all quest from the game… Like a job dealer… I would like have an amineties like that in my guild hall for sure, or sell an order to send you to the quest giver… Could be very nice for help player to find quest, sort of complement of storyline.

Good point Lathain. While there are some SOE technical staff (and external consultants) fixing the problem, what is everyone else doing? I hope using the time to make the game(s) better. Itemization would be a great place to start. Since the changes to stats in EQ2 (i.e. only two stats matter now), most of the gear under L90 makes no sense.

While the lack of communication can get aggravating, I really dont think that threatening to quit the game and throwing words around like Im going to play Wow and Rift really does any good. When everyone who has ever played EQ2 and still plays knows that nothing out there compares and at some point all these quitters will return because they will not be able to fill that void. It may be a year maybe even 2 but Sony knows you will be back and quess what your toon will be right where you left it. Please dont think that the threats bother them, they have a job to do and when it is done they will restart our game and all will be grand again.

Naw. Threatening to quit definitely doesn’t solve anything. SOE has a proven track record over the years with both EQ1 and EQ2 that they could give a flying (insert swear words here) about their playerbase.

You actually want to “hurt” SOE? Don’t threaten to quit. Just DO it. Losing money is what hurts them. 🙂

I agree with the people saying that most will come back. I’ve been playing Rift since the servers have been down, and i can honestly say that I cannot wait for eq2 to come back up. If you want to remember why you love our game, go play that aweful pile of trash for a few days.

I’d rather get an “its not going to be today” update than a date they won’t fulfill. I almost went bloodrage when Psn didnt go up when they said it would.

For now I’ll wonder what kinds of things they’ll be giving us when the servers are back up. Crossin my fingers for double xp…. week.

I’m playing that “awful pile of trash” right now and having a great time. I’m chatting with EQ2 buddies that got sick and tired of waiting for SOE to get their collective heads out of their collective rears. Etc.

    It’s fun 🙂

When, or if, SOE ever comes back online… we’ll see how many people come back. If it’s more than 20, that’s enough for a raid at least.

When SOE decides to come back online, I would like new server upgrade pls, double xp week, 30 days free game time + extra day free for each day the servers died erm…itemisation to be fixed thro out the entire game, and to top it, the nxt time SOE releases an expansion pack – pls can us Europeanies…..yes, the ones accross the pond that u forget about frequently…pls can we have retail copies!!!!! ooo one very last thing, can u pls patch our servers at a time where it isnt our peak time and to make sure u have everything properly organised so u dont screw it up and send out the wrong data to the wrong server …and FINALLY pls can u re write the game so it runs properly on computers and not so CPU intensive ^^ – i dont ask for much lol

Only reason I will probably still be playing is no The Old Republic, and there is not a single game out now that is worth a damn. Played Rift for a couple days, but Rift feels far too much like WOW. Hope the servers are up soon only got 2 1/2 weeks left till it back to the grind.

People will come back, we’ll be getting free game time so why wouldn’t anyone come back for that? Whether they stay beyond the free time, or whether they have been sucked into playing something else in the meantime is a different matter =/

With a free week of rift available to everyone and a lack of anything from SOE. Time to try a new world. Will see how it compares. I doubt EQ2 will go away, but if they don’t fix things soon, there could be more server mergers coming. :/

A good chunk of our guild is playing D&D online waiting for EQ2 to come back up and pick up on our raiding right where we left off , I expect a certain loss of people over this but the players who have been playing this game 5+ years are waiting to jump back in and we will be there as soon as its ready for us. Our guild is Legion of Doom on AB if ya get back in and your raid guild is dead we wont be.

Rift is terrible 🙁 The graphics are refreshing but the gameplay is about as dull as it gets. Just played the 7 day trial for an hour or so and it only makes me want to get back into eq2 land even more.

Im bored out of my mind without EQ2. I doubt the servers will be fully functional before the end of the month. I would like to see more information on when things will be back up. They’ve given a decent enough explanation as to why they pulled the servers. While it stinks they had to do it, it is understandable. I would love to see some double xp/aa upon our return to the game. I have a toon at 200 aa and lvl 85. I’d love to bang her out in a weekend of double xp/aa and get her to 90 with 300 aa… that would rock. I hope I am wrong about month end and the servers are up sooner, but I wont hold my breath.

I have played mmos for many years. I know the Hackers are first and foremost responsible for all this. However… mmo gaming is becoming too big… and as SOE’s atack proves, mmo gaming is becoming too dangerous for customers/players. I have decided to quit mmo gaming, all of it. Looking for a new hobby that does not involve the internet and the Hackers.

    @Gardavil:
Sadly any time you use the internet for much of anything that involve personal data, be it online gaming, online banking, online ordering, e-mail whatever. Some of your personal information is exposed, then again it is to a degree almost any time you use it. There’s not a lot keeping someone from swipping your credit card on the way to the terminal in a food place and selling the captured data elsewhere.

Unless you plan to go off grid completely there is some risk inherant in the system.
