SmokeJumper: We Know Kael Drakkel is Empty

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Game Updates & Maintenance, Grouping, Itemization

Players have expressed concerns that the changes in the difficulty of dungeons this week will make Kael Drakkel far too easy. However SmokeJumper seems to be backing up the designers on wanting to keep the contested Kael Drakkel sufficiently difficult:

(Making the zone super easy is) not our intent at all. And I’m glad that your group is able to play through those areas. But it must have been verrry lonely in Kael, because we know how many people were playing it…and it’s not many.

The difficulty, the length of time it takes you to get through the area so you can get to the boss loot, and a number of other factors weren’t playing out the way it was designed, so we tweaked the dungeons to make them more lucrative, a bit faster to play through, but still quite challenging. We do want the players to be challenged, but not so that 99% of you are curb-stomped.

I think you’ll still find the dungeons appealing. If you don’t, I’m sure we’ll hear back from you and we can talk more then. Cool?

I have yet to do any grouping in KD(contested). The main reason is I have grown use to the concept of an instance. Instances have a start middle and end. The mystery of where to find a boss doesn’t exist. They are simple in this way and when I only have a set amount of play time for an evening that is generally what I look for.

Many people remember the exciting days of contested dungeons and want to re-experience that feeling. But how many of the people who feel this way actually go to KD? How many people have even tried it?

It might just be another symptom of PQ gear being so nice keeping people locked into PQ all day. I’m not sure what KD gear looks like, but I bet if Sony put set bonus on some stuff there, small sets of 2 or 3, it might encourage more people to want to stay there. Doing things like adding extra heritage quest that take place only in KD may help push some of the players there as well.

Maybe this weekend I will try and get a group there.

I found an issue with the zone only allowing players to pull NAMED mobs once?

If the named mob isn’t killed on the first pull don’t make it so it de-spawns!!!

WHAT THE HELL IS THE POINT OF VENTURING DOWN THERE IF THE NAMES JUST TAKE OFF IF YOU DON’T KILL THEM THE FIRST TIME? This such a stupid dumb-ass idea how the hell are we supposed to learn how these mobs fight back at us if we only get one shot at pulling them?

    GREAT IDEA!!

I think the named mob will move to another location if you fail to bring it down.

The named can be pulled more then once. When you pull/agro and wipe, the name does despawn, but if you look around you will see they are not that far away. If you are in Old Kael, and you wipe on a name, they will respawn some where in Old Kael. From what i have seen the named tend to have a set number of locations they can spawn at. I have seen one name with about 3 spawn points, another with 2, etc.

But the other thing I have seen is that the random drops from the “trash” mobs have been as good or better then what I have seen off the named. I’m sure the named have some awesome drops, I just haven’t killed them often enough to see.

As for how the gear from KD compares to the gear from the PQ’s. The few drops i have seen have been significantly better.
