Windslasher Demystifies Public Quest Loot

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Grouping, Itemization, Live Events, Raiding

Public Quests provide different kinds of rewards than we’ve seen in the past. Right now there are 2 Public Quests: Storm Gorge which is Southeast of Thurgadin and the Ring War which is Northeast of Thurgadin. There are plans to add several more Public Quests as we heard about in Beta (possibly the Sleeper!).

An example of what you might find in a Treasure Chest after completing a Public Quest is a Resonating Cache ( \aITEM -681738661 128625129:Resonating Cache\/a )

  • Prevalent Orb of Advancements — When consumed, immediately grants a few hundred points of AA experience.
  • Sacred Ring — A piece of jewelry which grants 500 favor with your deity when sacrificed.
  • (Lesser) Transmuter’s Stone — A treasured item which can be transmuted.

Also, depending on the difficulty of the Public Quest (which scales up and down based on how many players are present, how quickly the mobs are killed, etc.) there are greater or lesser chances to get armor pieces. If you participated in the Public Quest (grouped or not), you may find an armor piece in the treasure chest at the end of the battle. For example, aVictorious Armor Piece ( \aITEM 999063137 -2111116998:[a Victorious Armor Piece]\/a ):

Note that so far, none of the armor we’ve seen has Yellow or Red adornment slots, so this will be seen as Starter gear. We also haven’t seen any Fabled gear. Here are some screen shots of the Legendary gear.

Also, once per day, when completing a Public Quest, you may also receive a Cloudy Velium Jewel which may be turned in to any faction, such as Thurgadin, to gain favor to buy their Adornments and other faction goodies:

Today, Windslasher spelled out some specifics about those rewards and how they are awarded:

When you loot a public quest item cache, it gives you a selection of rewards using the exact same UI as a selected quest reward. You click one of the objects to select and that’s the one you get; the other two are discarded.

So if you get an exquisite thrumming cache for example, then your choices include a low-end armor piece, a deity sacrifice item (that gives more favor than the armor drop would), a box with two transmutables, or a chunk of bonus AA experience.

By the way, since there’s some confusion about what’s supposed to drop when, here’s a breakdown of how baseline pq loot is organized:

  • Difficulty 1 (easy solo) drops a thrumming cache
  • Difficulty 2 (hard solo/smallgroup) drops resonating caches
  • Difficulty 3 (group difficulty) drops reverberating caches
  • Difficulty 4 (Hard group/ small raid) drops pulsating caches
  • Difficulty 5 (Raid boss) drops humming caches

Now, within each difficulty there’s a common and a rare version of the cache — the rare one has “Exquisite” in its name. Their rarity varies a bit but is never lower than 25%. At difficulty 1-3, only the exquisite cache contains an armor piece, while difficulties 4-5 always drop armor for everyone (but the exquisite drop is better). The overall quality of the drops and your number of choices also goes up with difficulty.

Thanks to everyone on Butcherblock who was up at 2AM helping me with questions about Public Quests. 🙂

At difficulty 4 the rare drop armor will start having yellow slots on it. The common drop will still be what you listed above. I don’t believe this is an option on difficulties 1-3. I have yet to see difficulty 5.

I ran these with a X4 raid and both encounters bugged. We got the Difficulty 3 version, rather than 4/5.

I also think they should make the tokens drops every PQ, otherwise it is too slow to progress IMO

Just done the gorge one with more than 2 full raid, one taking left side other taking right. Rest doing middle.

First at 20/30 the enconter have reset probably due to a lack of rime at 16 and the extra waiting.

So we ended with the 4 heroic name and 8 wave… we blasted them pretty quick.

Pulsating reward, most of the 50 player got the solo reward, only few got the group reward with yellow slot.

so if i remember well :
    Unknow
    Difficulty 2 : No item / Exquisit = T1 2 options
    Difficulty 3 : No item / Exquisit = T2 3 options
    Difficulty 4 : T2 3 options / Exquisit = T3 4 options
    Unknow

Bonus set item only go to T1 to T3 so i even doubt there is a T4.

    total set (as tank) :
T1 = 3 items (forearm, boot, glove) +70 primary and sta, 20 crit mit
T2 = 5 items (forearm, boot, glove, shoulder, helm) +77 to +84, 22 crit mit
    T3 = 7 items (all) +84 to +91 with yellow slot, 24 crit mit

As tank item T1, T2, T3 all give same mitigation…

Wow, wish I would have noticed this post prior to replying to the other one.

My experience with loot is as follows:

    Storm Gorge:

Nothing better than an Exquisite Pulsating Cache, even with 2-3 full x4 raid groups present. Now that you’ve mentioned it, I’m curious now if perhaps we’ve hit the same bug at around 16-17 Rime Stormtroopers. I have noticed it pause there, but am honestly not sure if it reset to the lower before moving on to the next stage or not. This may be the case, and would make sense.

    Ring War:

Nothing better than an Exquisite Resonating Cache, even with 2-3 full x4 raid groups present. It always resets 3 times. This appears to be due to a lack of spawning Kromrif Recruits in the difficulty 3/4/5 modes.

    As for the armor itself:

    – I’ve only started documenting the Scout gear on eq2.wikia.com. I will document the others as I have time, others are welcome to contribute. For those interested, you can find it at http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Triumphant_Armor_of_the_Divide_%28Armor_Set%29

    – I haven’t seen any fabled gear drop.

    – I have not seen a single chest or shoulder piece drop. It appears as though the armor slot and tier is specific to a type of chest. Since I have never seen a humming or thrumming cache (exquisite or otherwise), I think this may explain why I haven’t seen chest or shoulder drops. I’ll do my best to document this further as I put together the armor and Public Quest pages on eq2.wikia.com.

.. and now having looked at the other armor sets (courtesy of the images embedded in this story), I find they’re all named exactly this same. This will require some changes on eq2.wikia.com. Lovely, thanks SoE. Let’s really make this confusing on us people that try to document this stuff.
