Destiny of Velious a No Show at its Broadway Debut

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Expansion News

It seems that all has not gone smoothly for the Destiny of Velious expansion launch. We are now +45 minutes with no sign of time estimate on when Velious will make its appearance.

No word on Script Rewrites, OSHA Violations (think of the poor gnomes), or Work Visa checks (are those Freebloods from Romania, Hungary, or Druidia?).

From SmokeJumper on the EQ2 Forums:

Well…launches always have at least one “gotcha” in them to make sure we’re awake and paying attention, I suppose.

We’ve got a missing asset issue that we’re troubleshooting right now. The gates will open as soon as we get it resolved.

More soon!

and later:

We’re missing some assets and working to get that resolved now.

As soon as that’s fixed, we’re good-to-go! No ETA yet, but we’re working on it.

We are receiving wild estimates about how long Velious could be delayed, some up to 3 hours.

I am having a “missing asset issue,” its called this expansion. ZING! All joking aside, this stuff always happens. I don’t know if its stage fright or what, but it always make me think of the early Kunark and Velious days on EQ1.

No one should be surprised by this at all.

Remember with EQ1 and Kunark, some people did not get the expansion on time to even play on Launch Day.

On the plus side for me I’ve not been able to get the DoV to download via the normal launcher options. I only read about the “swap to US langauge” trick a while ago, but its downloading now….

Time for a quick gym session before plunging in, or maybe firing up Planetside too 😀

So because people had issues playing on day one with Kunark and Velious for EQ1 that 10 years later things can’t be ironed out?

Nah, not buying it. Not like it matters, I’m at work, but still I don’t agree with the whole “it should be expected because it happened before” sentiment.

It is not expected because it has happened before, it is expected because it is SOE. 🙂 But realistically, they are changing a lot in the game with this xpac. They are bound to run into some snags that just can’t be planned for.

I am starting to expect my Dragon Age 2 demo will be downloaded before EQ2 servers go live.

I think DCUO had a patch today too. I don’t know if that messes with EQ2 though.

Well in the web casts they mentioned that people from different teams were spread around as needed. I think it would be hard to argue that an update for another one of their games would contribute to fewer resources to work on this.
    It boggles the mind.
