Runnyeye -> Splitpaw Merge Nailed Down; to Take 27 Hours

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Game Updates & Maintenance

Instead of two downtimes, the Runnyeye -> Splitpaw merger will happen in one fell swoop.

From the EQ2 Forums:

The Runnyeye and Splitpaw servers will begin merging on Thursday, February 3, 2011.

Runnyeye will be taken offline for the last time at 2pm PST (10pm GMT) on Thursday, February 3.

Splitpaw will be taken offline at 9pm PST on February 3 (5am GMT on February 4).

Splitpaw will then undergo the regular weekly hotfix before merging. Once the hotfix has completed, the server will stay offline for another estimated 27 hours while the merge takes place.

The merged Splitpaw will be offline for an estimated 27 hours and is scheduled to come back online as soon as the merge has completed. We estimate an uptime of around 8 am GMT on February 5.

The following services will be affected for all EQII servers located in our Amsterdam data center (Splitpaw, Storms, Valor, RU servers) during this downtime and may experience interruptions:

  • Cross-server chat
  • In-game mail
  • Friends Lists

We apologize for any inconvenience and will resume all affected services when the merge is complete.

Phew! Good job no-one plays on a Friday Night…….

Well, I supose it was always going to take a day or so – but why on a weekend? Couldn’t it be done on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday? Coupled with the long server down yesterday this means 2 days out in Feb already. Given that we already pay premium prices to play (SOE exchange rates would embarrass the mafia) you’d think we could be given at least a fair go.

Personally I think they are doing the right thing, one set of downtimes to get the merge done and sorted.

The merger is happening pretty much on the same day it was originally planned for as well, so kudos to SOE.

That may be the optimism talking though, after years of temptation to simply amputate any SOE affiliation and move on, they not only released an mmo that stands out as fun, (DC:UO) but have finally started releasing information on the next planetside game.

Yep my raid night is KO’d too, but I definitely think its the right thing too to get it all done and out of the way. Especially getting things stable well before Destiny of Velious launches.

And same here on DCUO and Planetside Next, the first one is a great game, and I’m extremely keen to see the second one.
