Destiny of Velious Revealed?

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Commentary

You would think that the Non-Disclosure Agreement for the EQ2 Destiny of Velious beta had already been lifted, given the Youtube videos and unintended leaks on EQ2’s own and other sites. But we can assure you it remains firmly in place. Today, we plant tongue firmly in cheek and deliver another illustration brought to us by CheesePirate.com.

The Destiny of Velious NDA is likely to be lifted towards the end of January. Until then, please be aware of the legal ramifications it may have for you, not to mention losing access to EQ2 and SOE games, should you choose to leak information which has not been released by SOE.

Hey, someone has to market and advertise for this thing. If not SOE why not the players?

Would saying that Destiny of “Vexatious” has dumb’d the game down to a whole new level be against the NDA? Sorry to say i’m not joking either.

I played WoW years ago for a few months, i have zero clue what it’s like now, but with all these mmo companies falling all over themselves to make “their” game even easier I’d say wow is now probably one of the more traditional mmo available today.

    SOE’s new ad should read:

EQ2: NOW 78% easier than WoW!!!

I’ve played WoW for about 3 years before petering out during WotLK, I have had a month or so on Cata since and can definitely say SOE haven’t managed to dumb EQ2 down more then WoW.

Its like trying to hit a moving target, just one example here, in WotLK players had 70 talent points to spend on abilities in three trees. In Cata they now have ~36, but you have to spend the next 30 points into one tree after you choose your first point. You literally cannot pick more then 1-2 mediocre talents, or even more then 2 talents different from another player.

It does seem like companies are falling over each other to dumb their games down, but its foolish to try to keep up with WoW there.

Murfalad, I can’t say I’m surprised to hear that even WoW has gotten easier. I’ll admit when wow launched my wife and i were like “OMG this is SOOOOOOO Awesome” I think we even said things like “finally a company gets it”.

We had a ton of fun, but… after a couple months we were so bored we never played again.

It’s the way of MMO’s now, they get you in keep you a few months. The easiness, the lack of depth isn’t there to keep you long term. Probably the concept of cash shops, get you while your excited and interested.

A very good example of this is SOE’s Star Wars adventures. Two of my boys watch the clone wars series and got wind of the MMO game for it. Hey why not it’s free right. Nope, well not with SOE anyway (more on that in a bit) The kids need money inserted within minutes of playing.

OH Dad we have to be part of the Jedi knights something or another. OK 6 bucks each monthly (already canceled) this was a couple months back. We need more content which brought on the monthly fee i think. Oh Daaaaaaad i so have to have this armor, Oh Daaaaaad i have to have this weapon, oh my friend has this. As soon as their excitement came it was gone, and they haven’t played it since. However the damage to my pocket book was about $60 dollars between them to have fun for just over a week.

SOE are crooks. They got Lego Universe for Xmas, I’ve not once heard (after a couple weeks and still playing a little) DAD i need something? I think a sub might kick in but haven’t had to enter a CC yet and i can tell they are starting to tire of it. Their outdoor kids.

Hmmmm interesting. SOE money is required to continue after a few minutes, LEGO about two weeks nothing.

Anyway that is a perfect example of get you while you’re into it and excited. I imagine SOE will continue to slowly expel the long term vets with moves like the Vampire Cash shop scandal, until you all have been replaced with the CS crowd.

I’m surprised i’m still very much into LOTRO, i imagine an mmo can pick you sometimes depending on the people you meet. LOTRO’s got good people, that’s for sure. I’ve pre-ordered RIFT and and waiting until Feb 24th in anticipation, not reading or checking out anything Rift anymore. I like to walk into a game completely oblivious, then dig in. I love that awe “moment in time” with a game, It’s why i no longer beta.

Will i stay in RIFT, LOTRO, i don’t know but as far as looking for a new home isn’t that kinda silly in this day and age of mmo’s. It boils down to one simple question nowadays. Are you having fun?

Yes – then stay and continue to have fun.
NO – then leave and find something which is fun.

PS: If you find you’re spending allot of time complaining; take the hint, you’re not having fun anymore. Took me several months to come to that realization, but hey you can learn from my experience.

Yeah, the “free to play” and cash shop is just a con, if it were truly free they would be broke, for that reason I have a dislike of anything “Free to play” and avoid it like the plague.

Just an aside though back on WoW, when I said it was even easier I wasn’t kidding, I hit 85 (max level) and maxxed out my tradeskill profession within 1 week of playing. Even better I was still playing EQ2 early in the evenings during that week and only logging onto WoW later on.

99% of the xp came from questing which is now almost completely linear, I didn’t have more then 6 quests in my quest log to do at a time, most of the time I just had 1-3 quests. If you miss a step then you have to circle around looking for the first quest giver.

That’s an example of an MMO that’s dumbed down almost as far as it can go (I honestly expect in future WoW will auto start quests for players). The choose your own adventure books, dungeons and dragons adventure books or the fighting fantasy ones would all look ultra hardcore compared to todays modern MMOs sadly.

    @ Murfalad

Did you do any heroic dungeons or raids in WoW or just level to 85 and quit? Yes leveling up is easy, however the heroic dungeons and raids in Cataclysm basically beat EQ2 in its current state.

Believe it or not, but you actually need to use crowd control and not be retarded due to healers having limited mana and mobs actually hitting hard. There are pages on pages of people on the WoW forums complaining they are too hard, and Blizzard is telling them to toughen up and refusing to back down.

The scripting of fights even makes sense, but is still difficult, rather than having to search logs for AE timers. I used to love EQ2 and loathe WoW, but the times have certainly changed.

I have still not figured out how “free to play” equals monthly subscription to get the content? that maketh no sense to me….. free to play should equal a one time cost to open content and micro management hell not a monthly fee.

For those who can’t tell their spoiled ankle biters “NO”, lack the common sense to know that NOTHING worth having is EVER totally free or use Feldon’s hard work on this site to advertise their own MMO preference and bag EQ2… ciao! Don’t let the door hit ya. Last I checked this was EQ2 wire, not LOTRO, Leggo, or even just MMOwire.

If you want to see something change for the better, hit the official forums with sensible suggestion. They do get seen eventually if they pass the doable and beneficial for playing majority tests (doable includes profitable by implication because SOE has never said they are a charity).
Happy gaming (wherever to choose to play).

I fired up EQ2X on the weekend. (Got a new monitor)

OMG!!!!! Thank You SOE for the wonderful memories.

When i started the game the music overwhelmed me with such fantastic memories of good times and good friends.

I’m glad i started it back up for that and I thank you again SOE for memories of a lifetime. Starting up EQ2 also confirmed my decision to leave was the right one.

EQ2 is not EQ2 anymore but I’ll have those memories forever. Sure myself and countless others get bitter with SOE as they change the game into something else, and its completely understandable as all the friends we make leave and myself following eventually.

It’s closing the door to an incredible time. However we are all leaving wrong (maybe), I’m not bitter anymore? I have my memories of good times and made some good friends whom have remained good friends.

You know, i can honestly reflect back now and say “Wow, was that ever a stunning game, i had such a great time, i made many dear friends” and ultimately close the door with “too bad they ruined it” and move on.

… And I used to be able to ride my bike without a helmet, drive without a seat belt, see a movie for $1.50, pay 50c a gallon for gas, travel on a plane without checking in 2 hours early, admit to being American outside the US without getting spit on, run a 6 minute mile, play 4 hours every day for a month to grind a level, and pay $15 per month to play eq2.

Now I need to go over to the BMW fan forum to flame their idiotic decision to put in that irritating seat belt reminder chime. What were they thinking?! Their designers really have NO clue!

    Later 😀

Feldon, sorry for spreading sarcasm in your space. I’m only trying to illustrate a point.

I just got in from GameStop and I really had hoped they would have the title ready for pre-order but it’s seems they don’t have any info on it as of yet but it would be nice to at least put some cash on the Hard-Copy 🙂
