Vampire Playable Race, Ice Wolf Mount Coming to EQ2

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Expansion News

Last night we received an e-mail with some surprising new information about events leading up the the EverQuest II: Destiny of Velious expansion. They include up to six gifts for players with active subscriptions (accounts in good standing) through December, January, and February, as well as rewards for players who purchase the Destiny of Velious expansion.

To get the two unique December gifts, you must have:

  • EQ2 or EQ2X account with Gold or Platinum active on December 14th.

To get the two unique January gifts, you must have:

  • EQ2 or EQ2X account with Gold or Platinum active on January 17th.

To get the two unique February gifts (Ice Wolf Mount and Freeblood race), you must have:

  • EQ2 or EQ2X account with Gold or Platinum active on December 14th.
  • EQ2 or EQ2X account with Gold or Platinum active on January 17th.
  • EQ2 or EQ2X account with Gold or Platinum active on February 8th.
  • Purchase the Destiny of Velious expansion by December 31, 2011.

Update: Lambda has read the fine print and it suggests that Destiny of Velious could be activated anytime by December 31, 2011 to receive the February rewards, if you fulfill the other requirements.

Here’s a look at that Ice Wolf Mount:

And if you caught the Photoshop Disaster above where the wolf appears to only have 3 legs (debateable depending on the angle, although this really points more to the fact that the original wolf models in EQ2 desparately need a revamp), you’re not alone.

From EverQuest2.com:

Starting in December and ending in February, active EQII Live subscribers and EQ2X Gold and Platinum members (with accounts in good standing) who purchase the upcoming EverQuest ® II Destiny of Velious™ expansion will receive a set of in-game items as complimentary subscription rewards each month.

Each of the three sets is comprised of two amazing items, one of which is the new Ice Wolf Mount (pictured) and the new tightly-concealed Vampire Race, which has yet to be displayed to the public! The December and January mystery items will be revealed at the time the rewards are distributed.Keep checking EQ2Players for updates about the upcoming EverQuest ® II Destiny of Velious™ expansion launch scheduled for February 8, 2011. Enjoy the rewards!

So many awesome possibilities we could have had if they were willing to put in the effort. Norrath has some great races! Instead, we get…vampires. If I wanted to play a vampire, I’d wait for the WoD mmo.

No whining here. Just a whole lot of laugher and a good amount of /facepalm.

Oh, and I’m sorry, but vampires aren’t a race. Other races become vampires. This is just sillyface.

    /facepalm

The fine print seems to suggest you only have to activate DoV before December 31st 2011 to get the February rewards, if you fulfill the other requirements.

For me it looks like the wolfs left front paw is behind the right front paw.
I also think I can detect the left fron leg up just right of the right front leg.

If you look at the full size image, you can see part of the other leg. Just a strange choice for the promo image. There was also a Deadly Dark Wolf in Legends of Norrath last month which was a black version of this wolf.

I’m looking forward to my new Vampire Frogloks, well surely we can become Vampires too, although feeding is going to be hard with no teeth 😉

Seriously though I like everything about this, its optional, it gives people something for free. The Vampire race sounds intriguing, seeing that the Vampires in EQ2 are so well drawn this might just add a very beautiful race to play, although I have no idea how it’ll be implemented (if we seriously will have a way to play a Vampire Froglok 🙂 ).
