EQNext Player Input Panel #1
Our live blog from the first EQNext panel.
ALSO: Check out Part Two of the EQNext Panels including in-game screen shots!
10:15am Introductions...
We are not naming then game yet. Internal name is eqnext.
Concept art...
Harkening back to eq1 but more stylized.
Back to the concept art for eq1.
Won't be getting a lot of details today but instead more player input and QA.
Not a direct progression of eq1 and eq2 but a reimagining. Changing some things. Keeping other things.
More interesting combat. More engaging.
Take the more familiar settings of eq and eq2 but also progression. History may play out differently.
10:25. We know the differences between eq and eq2. And are focusing more on eq1.
Tomorrows panel will have different concept art slides.
Opening the floor to questions from crowd.
Question: eq2 has too many classes can we go to base classes? (Huge applause)
From eqnext lead: eqnext will make you happy.
10:35 designed from ground up with pvp in mind.
10:42 we intend to deliver the story lines and role in another way than clicking through npc dialog boxes. The world should change around you.
Smedley: the next two days will be a huge part of planning the game. We haven't announced the game because it's still early in development. We haven't even decided on raid and group sizes.
10:56 wrapping up to go to eq2e panel.

You should really ask them about beastlords, if for no other reason than to hear the developer groans.
Will the client be playable on e technology of the day? Or will it take 5 years to grow into it like EQ2?
Please tell me that when it's released, the max settings won't be designed around hardware that doesn't exist yet, like EQ2 was.
"Harkening back to eq1 but more stylized.

What about EQ2???? Boy i hate it when i'm right, EQ2 is a goner.
EQ Next questions: Is it just console or is it also PC?
10:35 designed from ground up with pvp in mind.
Is there still PvE though?
10:42 we intend to deliver the story lines and role in another way than clicking through npc dialog boxes. The world should change around you.
Can you explain this more?
Of course there is pve. But pvp won't be a broken add on. Pvp despite having a dedicated pvp developer is still not as polished as the pve game.
Of course eqnext will be PC and PS3. This is a Sony requirement for all new MMOs out of SOE since 2009.
The problem with telling the primary story lines of the game through NPC dialog boxes is first it's very like the old MUDs. They want to tell the story in an immersive way. One is cinematic but another is the environment should change and tell the story too.
Eq2 dogmatically followed the story lines of eq1 but somewhat frustratingly changed the landscapes of eq1. Like in Kunark it doesn't feel the same. Cities turned into small areas of ruins and rubble.
Eqnext is still VERY early. Mostly getting feedback right now. Some concept art.
EQNext question thoughts, most of which probly aren't allowed to ask, but just incase:
1 - Since it's harkening back to EQ1 days, does this mean there will be a playable race cut? If so, are there any known races that will be cut?
2 - Will this be a PSN or a blu-ray disc? Will it cost money per month or be like FreeRealms and EQ2X, f2p?
3 - Will Station Marketplace and Legends of Norrath infect EQNext as well?
If you ask any of these, thank you
Well I think it will be a safe bet to design for multicore and a strong Graphics card. Eq2 was designed for 8ghz single core and no logic on graphics card.
When in doubt you can play eqnext on a ps3 and get optimal experience.
Unless free to play tanks there is no doubt it will be the eqnext platform. All SOE games have station marketplace and a card game. Sorry dude it's the wave of the future.
Playable races? Dunno
Playable classes? Less is more.

I wonder if this means they will be implementing a third faction instead of the typical 2 we have seen for the last nine years or so.
