A View From the Top Interview

Oh hey, we did an interview!

A View From the Top – Episode 12 – Morgan Feldon

I sat down with Karen (aka “Jaye”) and Adam (aka “Ferrell”) to record an interview for their A View From the Top program this Saturday. I was a bit nervous at first, but they made me feel very welcome and had some great questions. All in all I had a lot of fun talking about EQ2, the future of the game, and the future of this site.

We really jumped all over the place on topics (there was a script?)  but we covered areas of the game and its development that I think will prove interesting to listeners.

If you’ve not heard of A View From the Top, it is a podcast covering MMOs and hosted by raid guild leaders Adam and Karen. They really know their stuff regarding running successful guilds and navigating guild drama. I could have used their advice in a past guild or two. 😉

  • Adam also runs a blog which is EpicSlant.com. He posts commentary about EQ2 and other games from the perspective of a guild leader.
  • Karen also runs a blog which is Journeys with Jaye and has a lot of insight into raiding and raiding guilds.

Random Thoughts

As I listen to this interview for the first time since giving it, some things occur to me:

  • Crutch Words (“uhh…” “ahh…” “and…”) suck
  • I want what Adam’s eating (munch, munch!)

Feedback

I’m anxious to hear your feedback on this interview. Anxious enough that I’ve ordered medication. Seriously, I’d like to hear what you have to say!

Some thoughts as I listen to this recording…

I wish they’d cut out all of my “uh, uhhs”, pauses, long “ands…” and Adam’s food wrappers. Yes, we can tell you’re eating a sandwich. 😉

You touched base on so many good issues Feldon! Very informative, I hope they (at SOE) listen and take into account that you’re really speaking for much of the player base. You definitely took things into your own hands and explained some of the issues.

I think there is a point that I was waiting for everyone to touch base with; this new label of “exploiting” or in my opinion, using the current game to bypass sony’s idea of slowing the game down.

Excellent all around “state of the game” type of interview.

    Feldon –

Really enjoyed the interview, especially the discussion on adding duo/trio stuff as an alternate route. Putting in one vote for more interviews in the future. I bet if you actually host em instead, you’d feel they go much smoother with fewer anxiolytic tendencies.

I was eating candy! The sandwich was before and yeah that ended up pretty obvious.

I think this was a very interesting show, and all of you had well thought out ideas on the issues.

I especially enjoyed the discussion about Velious and you caught much of my hopes and misgivings with Velious very well. I think that your thought on leveling “go kill 10 rats” or “get the perfect group and do speed runs” was at the point, personally I have canceled my subscription as I do not want to do the first and I can not do the second and there is no challenging 2-3 man content in the game.

I also enjoyed the itemization discussion , and the discussion about more content for 2-3 man groups.

Excellent interview. I would love to hear more of these, other peoples thoughts on the game and the direction it’s heading.

This is the first time I’ve seen this site, so now there are 10 other episodes I would like to listen too. I listen to Zanadi and Delmon (spelling?), but this gives me another view.

    Great work, keep it up.
    Thanks again.
