Dude, Where’s My Mount?

Written by Dethdlr on . Posted in Art, Appearance, Housing

After Game Update #56, you may wonder why your mount is disappearing during combat.  As reported earlier, there’s a new setting coming to the game.

In Options -> Display -> Animation, there will be a new setting called “Render Mounts”.  This has three options:

  • Show mounts always
  • Hide mounts during combat
  • Never show mounts

Hide mounts during combat is the default which may lead to some confusion on launch day.  If you want it to work the way it used to, just set it to Show mounts always.

So I can look/run like a bard (no mount visible), and still be a templar with a 65% mount speed buff.

Temp decked out in plate, running at 65%.

    I like it !

btw this is an user only setting!

    this means:

if you render no mounts only YOU wont see the mounts for you and other players but if you are on a mount and another player has the setting to always see mounts he see you still riding your mount.

its the same like the cloaks. if you turn them off, theyre just not visible for you and not for other player who see you. but for the cloaks there is a setting to hide your cloak for others so they cant see it on you even they have the render cloaks option set to yes.

there is no option like this for the mounts. again its just a what yourself see option at the moment.

I like seeing mounts. If you’ve got a fighter and use Sneering Assault (the threat position increase, second end-line of the Shadows tree) You’ll notice when you’re on a horse (at least with my SK), the horse rears up and kicks (basically the same as the jump command when you’re standing still). Yeah, it’s an already existing animation, but I thought it was a nice little touch while mounted. A way for you to be “noticed” by the mob, using the horse for aggro. Sure, it was only a cosmetic effect, but still, a nice little touch. Thankfully I can keep it so I can still see mounts.

Speaking of the jump animation; when mounted on a “live” mount (i.e. animal) the mount doesn’t actually jump, it rears up. On a non-living mount (carpets, disks, etc.) you actually DO jump up. This was a bit annoying when trying to navigate the Z axis (jumping up cliffs, steps, etc.) on animal mounts. Also, animal mounts run slightly slower backwards than non-living mounts or no mount at all. So will hiding my mount mean I can get all the benefits with none of the side effects?

And how will it look if I have my mount hidden and I jump, but someone else can see my mount? Will the mount rear up? Will it now jump up? And what if I can see my mount, but others have it off? Will they see me jumping, but I’m not really because I’m just rearing up on my horse and . . . damn, I think my brain just overloaded . . .

    Yes! Yes! Yes!

I love my mystic except one thing she is a barbarian so everytime I mount I don’t get to see my LoN illusion had actually thought of doing a race change. Now if they could go one step farther and let us have a appearance slot for mounts my Fae’s could ride a cloud one step at a time I guess. LOL
