Halas Slips to GU 56?

Written by Feldon on . Posted in Expansion News, Game Updates & Maintenance

We’re now less than 3 weeks from the release of Sentinel’s Fate. There has been no sign of Halas on Test. We’ve already been told that Halas is important to SOE, that they want it to be a starting zone to win new players. And I just don’t see them adding a starting zone with 20 levels of content with less than 2 weeks of testing. So at this point, EQ2Wire is now ready to call Halas for for Game Update 56 a few months after the Sentinel’s Fate expansion. This is purely speculation on our part until there’s an announcement, but we feel confident enough to post it.

I understand there are folks who are nostalgic for Halas after playing it in EQ1 and have really been looking forward to starting new characters there. I know I was looking forward to seeing what the Art department could turn out after seeing preliminary artwork at Fan Faire.

But Halas not being in-game for the expansion won’t ruin my life. Timorous Deep and Darklight Wood are still excellent options for leveling toons from 1-20. Really that level range is pretty saturated. The Golden Path we’ve been hearing about will be a polishing of existing zones (the changes to Sinking Sands were the first part of that) to make a smooth progression from 1-80.

More news on Battlegrounds and Sentinel’s Fate as we have it… This has been a busy news week and next week will probably be even busier!

Given Brenlo has said its postponed your gues is spot on why the hell cant the spineless chiken shits at SOE tell the general population now about it? i think alot of players where looking at this with a warm feeling i think a lot of people are going to feel let down about it.

If this pans out, it’s been a strange expansion promo cycle. Halas gets announced but slips, while battlegrounds don’t get officially confirmed until three weeks out, even though they’re effectively a major expansion feature.

From previous betas i wouldn’t call it dead until 10 days before live date.

Yes, Halas has definitely been put back to GU56. This is official comment from Brenlo, but because of NDA i cant tell you where I saw it or give you a link.

Kiara recently posted that battlegrounds are not technically part of the expansion, but are in fact a game update. But I assume they are being tested in beta as I’ve not seen anyone on test mention them — which suggests that the same may be true for Halas (I think that’s been the case previous years).

Lame. Very lame. I wonder what else is gonna be pushed back. And no shaders 3.0 in sight, either.

Sad news. And it’s not just EQ1 fans that wanted it. Some of us from EQOA want that zone as well. Though, I may just have to level my alt elsewhere and then move my home city to Halas later.

Remember FanFaire 2008 when the Vivox chairman came on stage to show how cell phones would integrate with in-game chat? What about the new Shader 3.0? New Halas? It took SOE a full year after they announced Zam.com’s new database integration before players even saw it – in fact, it wasn’t up and running before the NEXT Fanfaire.

SOE has a long history of announcing cool things at FanFaire that take over a year to come to light…if at all (looking at you, Vivox!).

I think this will be my first EQ2 expansion and at the same time my last.
3 months of TSO and done everything, how will this exp hold up… maybe 4 months ?! I’m fed up with al those false promises by SOE. With SF I give em 1 last change !
